Great video, also a good idea to disconnect the battery while doing the work - the ECU dumps the gearbox memory and resets itself to factory default settings

Scott Elliott It is good to have you this days. Do you know how much oil will came out of sump only please? I can measure it afterwards, but My thinking is: Can I just reuse the oil as it was changed recently after I would replace the filter or should I top up with fresh one? ATF, is it always pink or very? I have got feelings that current is amber. Can I mix them at all? Thank you.
@ScottElliott1527 жыл бұрын
It is not a good idea to mix different types of ATF. I think it would be good to change it again. I use Total Fluidmatic LV MV. It has MB236.14 specification.
@bartpior12087 жыл бұрын
Scott Elliott Thank you. I will do as you said. It's really shame that have paid £288 for just ATF not having filter changed. Now need to buy 9 l ATF and filter on top that. Thanks to you I am aware now how to get it done with confidence.
@ScottElliott1527 жыл бұрын
Wow 288 pounds is huge. The Total ATF is about the equivalent of about 420 pounds per litre. If you can find out exactly what fluid they used then buy a some top up fluid. I didn't realise you paid so much. That's highway robbery.

Hi Scott, thanks for these great tutorials - already used a couple of them :) What kind of lift do you use? Is that plus ramps/jack stands enough to work under or would you recommend something else? I have a garage with similar dimensions as your man's cave. Looking forward to more 639 videos!

@@ScottElliott152 regarding the banjo fitting correct me if I'm wrong: blind on one end, borethrough to the other end (hose connection), female nut to tight to the banjo, 10 mm metric thread? Do you remember the pitch thread? I'll try to make one inspired by yours
@ScottElliott1523 жыл бұрын
@@oscarramirez4047 Oscar are you referring to the special bolt fitting I made? Just needs to be a miscellaneous 10mm or 3/8" bolt that fits through the banjo. Pitch doesn't matter. Drill as described in the video at 8:00. Down the middle and then at right angles so the oil flows into the banjo.

@ScottElliott1524 жыл бұрын
I looked through the comments. I know the missing TC plug has been discussed but I couldn't find it. Some cars don't have that drain plug for some reason. So an alternative is to remove the oil cooler return pipe on the RHS of the transmission, start the engine in Park and run for about 15 to 30 seconds and the transmission oil pump will pump out the TC.

Hi Scott...such a thorough job...as usual. Scott my aluminium tranny cooler has rubbed through on the plastic holder from vibration, I took the tranny cooler off, cleaned and used an epoxy glue on the small hole where it had worn through...its better but still leaking...where would i buy a quality non genuine....MB wants a grand for a new cooler!!!! No chance...many thanks Daniel
@ScottElliott1526 жыл бұрын
Daniel that's typical .... $1000 is outrageous. I'd either try to get a used one from a wrecking/breaking yard or investigate getting it welded. The other option is a generic oil cooler with some DIY brackets to mount it. Search eBay as there's lot's of stuff available. www.ebay.com.au/itm/Universal-Aluminum-Remote-Transmission-Oil-Cooler-Auto-Manual-Radiator-Converter/252527628800?hash=item3acbd1d200:g:eioAAOSwx2dYGE2K

Hi Scott, grate video mate . I'm about to try and do a transmition fluid change on my vito but I'm not going to be able to flush the system my van has done 135k and no transmition fluid has been changed before. Is it necessary to do the flush? Thanks
@ScottElliott1522 жыл бұрын
The Mercedes Workshop Information System (WIS) recommends the oil cooler and lines are flushed as shown in the video. If you don't do it you'll be leaving about a litre or so of very old ATF circulating. 135,000km is long time on one lot of oil.
@geomaj12 жыл бұрын
What if I flushed the lines from the bonnet where you fill up the fluid from, will that work ? The same way you did the power steering fluid change.
@ScottElliott1522 жыл бұрын
@@geomaj1 I'm not sure what you mean. There's a filler tube under the bonnet. The video describes the Mercedes recommended process. It's too expensive a transmission to try to fast track or short cut the service. This work has to be done properly or you risk an expensive repair.

Hi Scott, would this be the same for a Vito 122 V6? 2011 Model, do they have the same gearbox? I cannot find which gearbox my van has.

Hi Scott, how often would you recommend changing gearbox oil in manual w639 Does the change make a big difference in the drive
@ScottElliott1523 жыл бұрын
I reckon manuals are about the same as autos for oil changes. About 70,000km or four years. With new synthetic oil they usually shift more smoothly.

@ScottElliott1522 жыл бұрын
I've not seen this tool before and it's not mentioned in the Mercedes Workshop Information System I have. I can see it's pushing the old fluid out of the system. If your Vito has the thermo control valve that will stop the the oil cooler being flushed.
@DieLechtaler2 жыл бұрын
@@ScottElliott152 can i buy the bolts like you showed in your video?
@ScottElliott1522 жыл бұрын
You could try a banjo bolt with a tube on the end. You'll have to improvise and find a way. Alternatively don't worry about the litre or so that's contained in the oil cooler and lines. Draining the torque convertor and oil pan will replace around 80% to 90% of the ATF. Do a service now and do it again in say 12 months and you'll have replaced nearly all the ATF.

Hi SCOTT love your stuff, I’m a race bike lover and Mercedes same as you are, so great to see that. Now I have just bought a 115cdi and run a taller final drive ratio. I know the V6cdi VITO has the 2.92 ratio compared to our 115cdi 3.27. Have you looked into doing this or even better if love to install the 2.47 ratio from the e280/320cdi. Do you Thinh this is possible Kind regards Paolo
@paolouchicentofanti84945 жыл бұрын
Sorry would like to run a taller ratio I meant
@ScottElliott1525 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words! My thoughts are the 2.92 ratio is possible as it will drop the revs about 11%. At highway speeds on a flat road you'll knock a few hundred RPM off. I think the 115CDI would handle that. You may need a tuning box to increase the fuel pressure a bit to give more power and torque. Obviously 1st gear will be taller but again it should handle it. I believe a change from 3.27 to 2.45 would be too extreme. I don't think there's enough torque to handle such tall gearing. A Vito 120CDI with the V6 would go well with a 2.45. After installing the diff the vehicle would have to be plugged into DAS in Developer Mode to change the diff ratio in the ECU and instrument panel control module. It's all doable and from what I can see the diff housings are the same. It's something I haven't considered on the Vito but was considering on my C320CDI. However I was thinking of reducing the ratio from 2.45 to 2.65 (from C220CDI). The car has 7 gears but rarely uses 7th unless you're on the freeway. To lower the ratio a bit would make it launch more easily as it's quite heavy at 1700kg. It would possibly save me fuel. Here's an eBayer in Australia selling a 2.92 for $AUD420. www.ebay.com.au/itm/MERCEDES-VITO-DIFF-DIFFERENTIAL-E4489-REAR-U-R-2-92/183444591504?hash=item2ab6265390:g:lKMAAOSwQwxbo8xN:rk:69:pf:0 It should be a rather straight forward project. I have a video removing and installing the diff in my C320CDI. It would be the same process but I think easier. Good luck with it and report back if you do it. Thanks Scott

Scott Elliott you’re bloody champion Scott, I’m gonna tune and put an exhaust on for sure, I only paid 3900 for it absolute steel. I had and ex ambo sprinter I did up years ago made 150kw at wheels, not joking!! There wasn’t many cars that could keep up with it in a roll on. I have seen a KZbin tvideo with some eastern Europeon guy pulling 220kph out of his 115cdi, going buy his tacho it had the 2.47 diff. It was posted 8 years ago so he hasn’t answered my question about on how he did it. 2.92 will drop revs to a smidgin over 2000rpm at a genuine 100kph with stock wheels an tyres and 2.47 will drop it too 1700rpm. My tuned BClass cdi spins at 1550rpm at 100kph in 7th (cvt) “i only drive it in manual mode” it copes fine unless I have a 60plus Kph head wind then I just drop her back. I get some crazy mpg figure with tail wind though but with no wind I get 56.5 @ 100kph no problem, I also have a full 2.5 inch on that too. The 2.1 is a much torquier motor than the Bs 2.0 so I think it will work as long as I can get 30 or so more kw @ the wheels which shouldnt be too hard. I drove my 115cdi back from Melbourne today to Berri in SA. and got a genuine 40mpg on 100kph gps so I was happy. But 2260rpm at 100 for me is too high as I do a lot of long trips on the hwy. thanks for that link and if you ever pull you 2.47 out I’ll buy it off you 😊. But I will go the 2.92 1st as it’s easier initially but I’d love to try that 2.47. Chat soon Scot and we will have to talk bikes one day, I’m sure you’d love my bike. I’ll Save that for later. Thanks again for all your vids

Actually I've never sited mine. I understand it's imprinted at the back of the engine above the starter motor. It's not engraved. You may have to clean it a bit to see it. 150kw at the wheels of a Sprinter sounds like a lot of fun!

SCOTT so if the housings are slight different from The C to the V the ring and pinion would still be able to interchange, so that the 2.47 ring and pinion would go into our VITO housing
@ScottElliott1525 жыл бұрын
I actually don't know. That's why I reckon if you join benzworld you'll be able to find out. The driveshaft seals appear to have different part numbers so you need to be careful.
@ScottElliott1525 жыл бұрын
It looks like the diff housings MAY be the same. The diff cover includes the rear bracket and that's different. You probably need to get to a wrecker and put the two side by side.
@ScottElliott1525 жыл бұрын
No they're not the same. I just carefully checked some photographs.

Yes I checked. Too, I’m a member of Benz world to but I’ll join the paid membership so I can ask the later question of the 2.47. But for now I’m gonna do the 2.92 and if I keep the Vito longer and manage to bomb up the motor abit more I’ll look at doing the ring & pinion in the future in regards to the 2.92. I actually bought a star tool many years ago but it only worked a few times then stopped
