I’ve been to and dozens dozens of concerts over the years, and nobody ever quite got close to them - and that includes the likes of Rush, Metallica, U2, and other heavy duty global touring bands. They just had this rhythmic synchronicity thing going on, and a stage presence, that nobody else could get near. I don’t think we’ll see the likes of this sort of thing again..
@88BigEtrain4 жыл бұрын
Well, there's only one musical genius, a prodigy, or, as Phil's former teacher called him "a special kid"- due to his innate ability to detect and discern even the tiniest discrepancies in the heights and lows of musical tones (the famous incident occurring during a school choir's performance in England, when Phil was 5 ), and none of the bands have had anyone like him. "Phily" had never learned conventional tones, he had always played by ears, which had therefore ultimately translated into drumming masterpieces and eternal classics. No drummer could match him during his prime (which, in my personal opinion, arguably climaxed during the Genesis Invisible Touch Tour) in any shape or form, period. His "looseness, effortlessness, groove, the sort of "Let me smoke a cigar, while I'm drumming with one hand only" ease he had made his drumming look even during the most technically complex pieces, was unprecedented, unmatched and unparalleled. I don't care which drummer will be brought to my attention, I've seen them all repeatedly, they didn't possess any of those attributes. Phily's drum kit is also worth of mention. While it was mounted and set up at a n angle that it reached beyond 180 degrees, he was fluidly and naturally able to fully and PRAGMATICALLY use it at its entirety.during concerts, essentially at any given (needed) point. Which is to say, unlike, for instance Neil Peart, whose drum set was assembled at the angle of 360 degrees, pointless unless he used it entirely for his drum solos for the visual effect. Not that those blew me away by any means. Furthermore, Genesis couldn't be beaten when it came to instrumental songs. Simply no other band had a chance to best them in synchronization, chemistry, groove, tightness, laser and light effects and their timing. Flawless. Lastly, the best musical duo of all time consisting of Phil and Tony kept putting on insanely orgasmic sounds, tones and lyrics, every time the two happened to have prominent passages of songs together. Think of "Apocalypse 9/8", or the opening of "The Brazilian." I only wish they were able to compose just mere one album of their mastery.. It would mean an ultimate emotional orgasm for anyone who isn't tone deaf.

Well, I think that in terms of synchronicity, ELP has demonstrated that Carl Palmer's Percussion and Keith Emerson's Keyboards, in my humble opinion, has surpassed Genesis's !!! I saw several times them live, and, believe... they were able to "talk" with their "eyes" only !!! Amazing how they could "match" all notes in several songs !!!

Don't know how they did it, but Chester and Phil are like one. They always land on the exact same frame if you watch the footage (!) I'm sure Phil was totally at ease, banging out his wacky and awesome grooves, licks and fills (both powerful and fluid) while Chester was always with there right with him, not missing a single beat (literally). They both feel the exact same. Totally love it when they play two different grooves or variations together - and it dovetails perfectly each time - and grooving!!!! Goosebumps every time! When Phil took over the vocals, Chester always delivered a rock solid groove with his own touch and groove. I'm sure behind the focused stone face, Chester always loved every moment with Genesis (and Phil).
