It shouldn't be when you play in a 8 some. Shot -16 under for a 4 man big cup scramble, won 2 years in a row and still got called cheaters 😴. Conditions were brutal,but still got called cheaters when another group clearly watched us play.
@dansaxton8556
@dansaxton8556 Жыл бұрын
@@920_Ly Of course I was referring to unmonitored foursomes. -16 is in the range of a believable winning score. I once played in a scramble with a +3, 2, 5 (myself), and a 25 handicapper. We won, on a short course, with -17. We had one eagle and 2 pars, with three 2-putt birdies on par 4's (our +3 could bomb it!). When I saw first-hand what it took to go that low, I have to wonder how -22 and lower is the winning score at almost every charity scramble I get roped into playing!

Once played one of these scrambles at RTJ Opelika. The team in front of us was slowing us down. They were topping shots, hitting from the rough, and had multiple bunker shots. Thing is, people are irritated by it because we have all been to these type of events where people come in with ridiculous scores and have clearly cheated, especially when there are good prizes to be won for winning. Despite this guy's claims, I still think he is full of it, simply by the fact that no other scores in this golf day came even remotely close, and I doubt they were the only team that bought mulligans etc. The guy also said they brought in a ringer under a false name, who was allegedly banned !
@LTR1420
@LTR1420 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. This was a scramble that was local in my area. Lets be real, there is ALWAYS some kind of cheating going on in scrambles like this. That being said, I played in a scramble about 7 months ago that allowed multiple ways for your team to shoot lower scores. Obviously mulligans, but they had I believe a 1ft rope you could use when your ball was close enough to the hole to count as "in". I'm a decent player, but two of the guys I played with were scratch or close to it. We shot a 51 and finished 3rd lol. This particular area is renowned for hacks like this guy blatantly lying on their scorecards. All for some $100 gift cards and other random useless merch lol.

I've played and won my share of four man scrambles, and I've won a lot of long drive contest in the scramble. Every time I'd go up to get my prize, people would be mumbling this and that. I'm six foot tall and at the time about 185. Some guy 6'4" would think he could hit it further. There's always people out there that aren't good at golf that can't phathom shooting 20-22 under par without cheating. That doesn't mean it can't be done. All of my friends are scratch golfers or plus handicappers. If you're making putts, there's no limit to how low you can go. You can hit it to fourty foot and make it or hit it to six foot and have four guys miss it. I think the guy is telling the truth, and golf is a game of honor. I feel he should have gotten the benefit of the doubt. Who wants to be ridiculed for a fifty dollar gift certificate? They paid more money than that just to play in the event and help raise money.

Yeah but this score of 46 is beyond a stretch. They aced a par 4, a double eagle, 4 eagles, and 12 birdies. I don't care how many mulligans they got the odds of them shooting a 46 is past the point of impossible. On top of that every other team could buy the same mulligans and none got remotely close to their score... They beat the next team by 7 strokes. Clear their name? They look more like clowns than before. The throwing of the ball and mulligans honestly doesn't explain how the score was that low.

Have you ever played golf? Lol when you are on fire you are on fire! Every shot you hit you stick it or drain every putt. I guess you haven't done that yet.

They definitely took advantage of the "freebies". In most tournaments where I have seen throws, greens are excluded. And, never can you use them back to back. Also, in most scrambles that I play in, mulligans can only be for putts. But, Im not sure if that is helping or not. The rules have to be specific. I would like to see the posted rules for that tournament. It could have a 8-9 stroke difference.

I think context really matters in situations like this. The only story I read previously to this video made it seem that these guys made ridiculous shots and blatantly cheated. This was simply them using advantages they could purchase in a fun charity tournament. You also throw in good golf and it seems legit they posted a card like that. My gut tells me this guy seems legit to me. Very honest and gave a lot of detail to his story.

It's definitely possible for a HIO on a par 4 with a hand toss that doesn't count as a stroke. My team tossed in from the fringe (laying 2) on a par 5, which netted an albatross. We have some younger guys in our group that can drive over 300 yards, so it's doable to get on or around the green on a par 4.

What else is interesting here is how bad the other scores are considering there are throws allowed. Maybe this team is the only one who fully understood and fully took advantage of the rules.

Great content. Couple of comments because I am still not buying it. - the older man said 2 of the players were +3 handicap. His story doesn’t back this up. - your telling me, they had 4 throws and all executed perfectly: not happening. If you don’t believe me, try throwing a golf ball 50 yards away and tell me how many you sink. - Steve play, even being scratch, doesn’t add up. Look at the match that was recently played and see how many times the pros missed the green or hit bad shots. I personally believe they probably shot 50 (or really close to it ) and pencil whipped a few holes to win and they didn’t need it.

Great interview! Couple things, nobody should care enough to seek these guys out. In the grand scheme of things, this doesn’t matter. With that being said, these guys 100% did not shoot a 46.

context means nothing when 2nd and 3rd place are 13-14 shots back. Even with two mulligans and a "throw" I would find it hard for a group of tour pros to shoot a 46 in a scramble. You just dont make a 1 on a par 4 and hole out multiple times in a round.

Did you even watch the video. Second place was 7 shots back. And they used two throws on the par 4. This isn’t impossible… improbable, yes.

Super interesting. Have been on a few teams that I played in scrambles and shot -17 / -18 with no mulligans and lost to people shooting -22 on straight up scrambles. However, all of those times have been in charity golf outings so at the end of the day, who cares. If you got 5-8 hours to hang out with your group of friends and enjoy the ride. If you want to play in true competitive outings, go play in scrambles that have a volunteer that rides along with each individual group or play in 2-man scrambles where you play with another team and both teams sign off on each other's scorecard. Edit: The best was in one scramble we played in 40 mph winds, and it was terrible. I knew another team that had 4 solid golfers, I was playing with family members so we shot -2 or -3. However, the group I knew shot -12 which I thought was crazy in that wind (mind you no extras just a straight up scramble) and they lost to a team that shot -19 lol After the guys on the winning team said they got super lucky, and the wind was always going with them...

The rule likely stated you can throw to an extend a previous shot. A throw from a previous throw shouldn't be permitted. But like you said, 47 would have still won.
