In the darkest age of Japan, endless war leaves a country divided. It is the middle of the 16th Century in Feudal Japan. The country, once ruled by a unified government, is now split into many warring clans. Ten legendary warlords strive for supremacy as conspiracies and conflicts wither the empire. Only one will rise above all to win the heart of a nation as the new shogun...The others will die by his sword.

Ships vs boats is the way they turn, boats lean in the direction they turn (boat leans left when it turns left), ships are opposite (ship leans left when turning right)

You don't appreicate this work until you actually try this campaign, I saw on the map Useugi got big by skipping past their vassle, so I had the idea of sending an amy to help fend off takeda, we defended the seiges for 20-25 turns, tokegawa, takeda, purple faction, they all kept coming and falling, eventually vassle moved its army out of reinforce range, ikko ikki send 2.5 stacks high experience, and the north was a checkerboard mess between me and ally date. I think I could have won if I pushed into unseen territory to take ikko ikki's last province but they had "strong" military and I had 9 weak basic units lol . What a scuffed campaign, i lost my capital several times. Vassle took it just before I could get it. But the stuggle was fun somehow.

MrSmartDonkey have you ever played EU4? And thought of making a playthrough on it or are you sticking mainly to total war at the momment

If I was ever to ever play a game like that, it would be CK2, I have no interest in EU4 because of when it takes place. I'd still probably never LP CK2 though, I just enjoy the watching the occasional LP, never played it myself.

have you considered no stop war challange ? Declare war on every faction when you meet em and no trade. Any difficulty would do. ITS GONNA BE FUN !

It's called the "This is Total War" challenge. LegendofTotalWar has done a bunch, I prefer challenges that change gameplay a bit, putting limits on units etc. They're more fun to me.

The challenge would be too easy anyway, it's like playing a normal campaign except I don't use Bow Warrior Monks, and the start is a little tougher since I have to wait before I can recruit Samurai units, but I could bypass that by playing Date or Shimazu.

I just started playing legendary and it seems the hard battles are situations where the AI is garunteed to lose so the computer makes some really weird moves.

Nope, no mod, it's % based each turn, and based on the buildings you have in your towns.

I still don't understand how your income is so huge compared to mine when I have captured Sado and a trade node far up north-east and yet I'm unable to continue forward without being wiped out by a powerful early stack.

You need income you can keep safe, preferably without defensive armies. Such as Sado, its an island and the AI never attacks it, or by taking everything north of the yellow people's province and Echigo because then there will be no enemies on your northern front left to threaten you. Free income. Not just with this campaign or with Uesugi, that is how games like this are won. Instead Donkey San is diving headfirst into the middle of japan creating more borders to defend surrounded by many enemies who can't wait to destroy him. With the Uesugi you rake Sado first, get that locked down, then go north, at which point you can defend everything with a single defensive army while profiting off the fertile soil in the north. I'm sure Donkey pulls it off here, but he is really making this as hard as he possibly can on himself.

By expanding the opposite direction the start of the campaign encourages you to go would be my presumption.

The only difference between ships and boats is how they turn; it has nothing to do with the size. Boats lean into the turn while ships lean against it. How do I know, 8 years of somewhat useless naval tradition knowledge from the navy.
