K. So I’m not loving Lonestar in soaps. And Lonestar employees should stop getting big mad about that; I didn’t know your scents would do this! I’m just showing people things.
Also, this intaglio challenge thing is big weird for my not artistic brain. But it was still fun!

Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.

I noticed when you poured the first layer that it wasn't very well mixed and I was thinking about how it was going to discolor, then when you flipped it over, I saw the black. Yep, I was right, the creamy yellow areas of unmixed soap/fragrance turned the black after saponification. This soap is GORGEOUS!!! I love when your little one comes and soap with you. it's just awesome.

It was 100% well mixed. We aren’t Bush league around here. 😂

@@MrsSoapAndClay maybe the colorant wasn't thoroughly mixed in then, or lighting. because I certainly saw discoloring in the bottom right corner in the mold after you had it poured. I'm going to look over the video again right now to check for myself. I might have seen wrong?

@@MrsSoapAndClay @ 5:51-6:12 the discoloration does not move when you move the mold or when you lightly bang the mold. It definitely looks like unmixed something (looks liquid to me).

All good troubleshooting guesses! But not what happened here; I think the color shift you’re seeing at that point is the lining showing through the batter more at some points more than others. This is not a mixing problem; I had to make 12 more batches with this scent and it happened in all of them!

I’m fortunate enough to live close enough to Lone Star to pick up my order and save on shipping. I’ve tried a lot of their fragrances and I love so many of them. It’s really a bummer that you’ve had such a bad experience with them so far. If you don’t mind, I’d love to offer you some suggestions on fragrances that behave in soap (for my recipe at least), so maybe you wouldn’t be so downhearted about the company as a whole. You’re absolutely justified to point out that there is zero soap friendly information available, so I’ve been taking some time to leave reviews on the ones I’ve used, and my experience with them, so hopefully other soap makers can make a more informed purchase. In their studio, I was able to pick up a pamphlet (before the gallery shut down for pandemic reasons) with the vanilla content of all their fragrances, but I’ve misplaced it during my last shop relocation. They say it’s available online, but I’ve yet to find it there. I hope I’m not overstepping, it’s not my intention in any way. I love your videos and wish you nothing but the best!

Hey! The Soap & Clay Kidlet #2 is currently six. I allowed her to make her first batch of CP soap - with supervision, of course - at the age of 5. Granted, the soap thing has been a constant and daily part of our family’s life since before she was born, so she has much more exposure to it than others may have, but I think it’s a reasonably safe chemistry experiment at the age of five, provided safeguards are put in place. ☺️
