I use liquid cow milk whey as my additional liquid above my 50:50 masterbatched lye. I strain my homemade yogurt to make it Greek style and use the liquid. I find it makes my bars harder and the sugars in the whey make my soap very bubbly. I've done this for about 10 years and my customers give me lots of feedback on the bubbles and how long my bars last.

Hi. Thanks for all your helpful and inspirational videos. I use a 2 to 1 liquid to sodium hydroxide ratio when i make my goat milk soaps. I make a 50 / 50 lye solution with distilled water and the remaining liquid part is the goats milk which i stick blend in to the oils before adding the lye. I always add sodium lactate to the lye water and the soaps have always turned out great. The reason i dont add goat milk directly to the lye water anymore is because the fat in the goat milk starts to saponify before i add it to the oils and I have found that this can affect the overall asthetic appearance of the finished bar.

This is the video I wanted to see! I recently started making Goat's Milk soap and I always wanted to know if it was a difference if i put the milk in the lye vs milk in oils! My goats milk and greek yogurt are super hard and it harderns with a smooth look!

I was doing Sodium lactate in my milk soaps. Typically I'd put 12 to 15g per batch (1000g oil weight). It works ok. I've never had weeping with it. I've been just using 1 tsp of sea salt dissolved in the lye water and honestly it works better than Sodium lactate. My bars were still too soft to unmold 24 to 48 hrs after with SL, Salt it seems to be good to un mold after a few hours.

Ive done a few ways,,,but saw a video with HOLLY ,who showed to just put 1 TBLS GOAT MILK POWDER INTO THE OILS FOR EVERY 2 POUNDS OF FINISHED SOAP ( example: making 6 pounds of soap, then use 3 TBLS plain goat milk powder)...just blend it in with the oils at 100 degrees .…. But the secret to not overheating the batch is to soap at cooler temp,,like room temperature or 80 degrees and then after everything is all mixed and molded,,,,,YOU MUST PUT IN FRIDGE FOR 2-3 HOURS..NO COVER.ITS SUPER EASY AND THE SOAP IS INCREDIBLELY DECADENT❤ You can use less g.m powder if you just want to keep cost down but it helps so much with rich bubbles

I added oat milk at trace, it went great and the result was a wonderful soap. However, I was recently trying some new luxury ingredients, one of them being goat and coconut milk, and my first go went poorly. I added coconut milk to the lye instead of at trace and ended up with a lye glob. I know it was from the extreme amount of fat in the milk. It was so much higher than I realized! I don't know how to fix this yet. Most advice I've seen are to just keep stirring, but I think the fat content might be too high for that. Anyway, yay to experimentation. I'm going to try to HP the lye fail, which is just a super lye heavy soap at this point, and see what happens.

I mostly use powdered milk but mostly camel, goat or whole fat. Skim milk doesn’t do anything for my formulas. I love using coconut cream powder for my vegan recipes. I add them after trace. Turns out great.

I make a shave soap with Goat's milk powder and Bentonite Clay. I also add sodium lactate bc I put them in PVC pipes, hoping for easier unfolding. I get the seeping!!! It's been driving me crazy. Listening to your info on the Bentonite soaking up the extra water and the sodium lactate maybe not being needed is 🤯. Next batch, I'll leave out the sodium lactate and see if the seeping stops.

I’ve used sodium lactate in my milk soaps… no weeping. About the same as any other soaps I’ve made in regard to cutting time.

I make many soap with a sheep milk) It is much more rich with fats and vitamines then even goat milk, and rare enough. The great problem was to determin the quantity of milk. During my experiments I put 2 and 2.5 and 3 parts of milk. 2 parts were the best for the hardness of the bar, but the colour was too dark. With 2.5 easy to work, but the bar is soft and it needs about 2 days to stay in forms. 3 parts of milk - I put the butch into freezer to take it off after a week)) But I wanted to put so much milk as possible)) I use ice-cubes of milk to make lie solution. I try to keep temperature for lie solution up to 36C. But if it goes higher the solution becomes yellow and smells bad, the soap will be brown at once, and during a time it makes lighter. I always put my butches into refrigerator for about 20 hours or so to avoid a gel ring. But to tell the truth I dislike soap without gel. From the other side, I don't know how to avoid extraheating and gel ring 100% in milk soap. How do you think, if I put white TD in milk soap and let it go for a good gel, will it help to avoid dark colour of my soap? I need pretty light colour

Hey! Sounds like you’re doing loads of fun experiments in perfecting your soaps! I would say that TD added will lighten your soaps up significantly. I’m unclear regarding sheep’s milk though, as I don’t experience much darkening with any milks I use and wonder how much darker you’re experiencing with sheep’s milk and what the cause would be. My milk soaps stay beige.

@@MSMS-p5w I would say try TD, but I’m wondering if you covered your soap to go through gel, if it would cause cracks from overheating. I also wonder if there’s naturally more sugars in sheep’s milk over the others.

@@MsAubrey One time I made sheep's milk and avocado soap and it was staying on the table. It went through the gel, cracked on a top and became dark-dark brown. I thought beause of avocado. In some other variants there were gel rings of different sizes but there were good on a top. At room temperature. And some information from official research about cow', goat' and sheep's milk. Fats: cow (2.8-6%) goat (4.1-4.3%) sheep (6.2-7.2%); proteins: cow (2.8-3.6%) goat (3.6-3.8%) sheep (5.1-5.7%); lactose/sugars: cow (4.7-5.6%) goat (4.4-4.6%) sheep (4.2-4.5%); dry components: cow (13%) goat (13.5%) sheep (18.5%)

@@MSMS-p5w interesting. 🤔 I know at room temp they’ll do a partial gel. I force mine all the way through by enclosing in a box and covering the box in a towel.
