I find it interesting how Thrawn and Tarkin are polar opposites with their military strategy. Thrawn never underestimated the rebellion, with the Tie defenders he was building up the empires capabilities to maintain their military advantage and win the war traditionally. Meanwhile Tarkin wanted to win the war before it even began, he underestimated the rebellion because he didn’t see the Death Star as a military battle station, he saw it as a enforcement of his political doctrine. TLDR if Tarkin and Thrawn swapped opponents, so Thrawn took on the alliance and Tarkin took on the ghost. The rebellion would be very VERY dead and buried.
@Foonsiz Жыл бұрын
The only thing that Thrawn underestimated was the force and that was pretty much because he didn’t understand it.

What are you talking about? Thrawn constantly let the Rebels go after they blew up several of his people and space ships. Then just said, "Ah, all according to my plan." Proceeding to lose in that plan at the end of the day. What a bastardization of another beloved character.
@ThatWTVGuy Жыл бұрын
You are correct. A single star destroyer helmed by Thrawn with a full squadron of Defenders would have wiped the floor with the Rebels at Yavin, Luke or no Luke.
@ThatWTVGuy Жыл бұрын
@@aytony4090 Were we watching the same show? Every single thing Thrawn did culminated in what would have been a total wipeout of the rebels in season 3 and again in season 4. The *only* reason he lost was because of interference by the Bendu and the space whales respectively - two factors he could not have possibly accounted for. That is pretty much how he has always been defeated in the few instances when he is defeated; when he is completely blindsided by something totally out of left field.
@aytony4090 Жыл бұрын
@ThatWTVGuy I want you to know the entire show didn't build up to that event. There were no hints as to what that master plan exactly was. It was hastily done to make the guy a real threat for once but it ultimately didn't matter because Ezra communed with whales or something. So that plot was another one episode then move on story. Then, there was a whole season of Thrawn constantly doing nothing about this specific rebel group just slapping his ass and running away. He's a moron who could have taken 5 seconds to go after them. There was literally a scene where after the Rebels blew up one of his things he was in a space station just staring at them and said for no one to go after them. They also did that dumb thing where the villain kills his own people to really look evil. They once again ruined another character and we'll never get the real Thrawn who came back with a whole fleet to take over after Palpatine died.

When you claim Thrawn's order to bombard Lothal was nothing more than "standard Imperial procedure," I think you misunderstand how this showcases Thrawn's strategic abilities. In the season finale, the rebels' master plan was to trap all Imperial forces into one building and utilize them as hostages. When the rebels succeed in their plan, Thrawn orders the entire city to be bombarded, save for the one building Imperial troops were held hostage in. Thrawn used the rebels' plan against them by allowing them to "trap" his ground forces, thereby avoiding Imperial casualties when the city is bombarded. Not only were the rebels completely blindsided to this flaw in their master plan but Thrawn is successful in utilizing the bombardment to get Ezra to surrender.

The Rebels Finale is great when you watch the series, and then the epilogue happened, and I still don't really care for it. How are Thrawn and Ezra alive? I guess Ezra was keeping the cabin pressure at optimal levels as they journeyed through Hyperspace, but then what have they been up to for the past 9-ish years? It could have just stayed nebulous, but Dave Filoni had to end it with Sabine looking for Ezra. And we also have that whole bit with Ahsoka making a promise to find Ezra, and I can only assume that she jumped out of the World Between Worlds at a later point than when she was pulled in because what has she been up to for the past 11ish years? Ugh. Gotta keep trying to square these circles. Star Wars is fun because it's all told out of order, but when you start to have explored areas of time touch, it gets weird. Oh, and The World Between Worlds is time travel, but it runs off paradoxes and time loops, you cannot just branch a new timeline. You do something that was not predestined and it's theorized that the whole universe gets destroyed. Since it works based off the Force, we can assume that the Force only lets those enter that it wants to let enter, which is why Palpatine cannot. He can sense what's going on, he knows where portals are, he can even attempt to contact anyone within, but he needs assistance to enter, which is why he's so eager to capture Ezra. But yeah, for anyone out there thinking they can just retcon the Sequels from happening, or think we can just reboot Star Wars with a whole new cast because of time travel via The World Between Worlds, that's not how it works. If it were to ever happen, there would be a rippling effect of retcons that would essentially push us back to when the Canon reboot button was hit back on April 25, 2014, sending us back to the Legends days. I'm not saying that Legends is bad, but you also lose all the good that has been done in the Disney era, meaning no Rebels, no final Season of Clone Wars (although most of it would be unchanged, still it's technically not Legends), no Bad Batch, no Mandalorian, no Rogue One, no Andor, and no Fallen Order and Survivor, and no [your favorite Star Wars story released in the past 9 years], and if you think going back to Legends is a better idea, that's fine, but you also get all the crappy stuff that came with it, too, it's not all gold either. It's lose/lose no matter how you slice it.

Speaking of Ralph Macchio and Karate Kid... you guys should do those movies. All of 'em. Or Cobra Kai? Either one. I'd be happy, a whole new swatch of nerdom would be happy and available to you guys. Sounds like a market to me. Do it.

I like this Star Wars because of how Star Wars it is too!

Can't wait For Ahsoka... Rebels was a top-tier show by itself

Originally, Dave Filoni proposed to do a series _without_ Force users, and focus on fighter pilots. Eventually they went with the idea of focusing on a group of heroes that were always on the run while trying to help others, like The A-Team. In some versions, Kanan had a robot arm, Zeb was first conceived as an Ithorian (the Hammerhead alien) then a large blue Snivvian (Snaggletooth) before finally basing him on some of the original Ralph McQuarrie Wookiee concept art. It was also decided early on to focus a large part of the narrative on the Empire’s plot to capture Force-sensitives and turn them into imperial agents (code name: Project Harvester), which would later be touched upon both in the video game “Fallen Order” and the Disney+ “Obi-Wan” series. This ultimately led to some members of the production team jokingly referring to show as “Blue Harvest” which was also coincidentally the working title for the 1977 film Star Wars.

They didn't give us a hint and told us to figure it out. That means only one thing time to pop in my copy of snake eyes.

14:41 is that Paul Giamatti next to “Not Rex” 🤣

I absolutely hate the "Nik Sant is actually Rex" theory. You see the thing about Rex is, he's a clone. And the thing about clones is, they have Temuera Morrison's face. The person who played Nik Sant was just some old British guy who looks nothing like him

Same for me it just seems forced. I know if I give my character a beard and jungle fatigues I can say he’s that guy from ROTJ. If you want to create a backstory for “Nik Sant” fine but don’t dress your new character up and say it’s him

Oh god, not the "snakes from chicken eggs" video. Great reference editors

Ok I know this is only slightly related to Rebels, but you guys should definitely do one on the Maul/Mandalore arc from Clone Wars. And every other Maul arc while you're at it

How the hell can a star wars caravan of garbage doesn't have a single blue harvest joke. This shows that James have great restraints

The art design shift that he found upsetting was the Clone Wars series has more angular square-shaped heads and the Rebels series rounded out the heads to be oval-shaped with smooth edges. It was the first thing I noticed when they played the clips from the 2 shows and I feel the same way.

I never really got used to the animation/character design either. I always equated it as the "Duplo" version compared to the Clone Wars' "Lego"

I clearly remember James saying he loved The Clone Wars especially the early version of Ahsoka. Also his favorite arc was the one with the droids and the little frog man
