I have lived on the outskirts of London for my whole life (17 years) and it's getting so bad. I bought a 2001 125cc bike and had it for 9 days or less outside my driveway and someone already tried stealing it until they realised it was alarmed with a top of the range disc lock. They had a stolen moped they got away on. This type of theft is such cowardice, I waited until 4 am the next morning ready for when they came back, but they never did.

Whilst most UK police forces have a no pursuit policy when it comes to motorcycles/scooters nothing will change. They are too scared of someone getting injured during a pursuit. Plus the central government is cutting budgets for all services so the numbers of uniformed officers are constantly falling.

So I saw a bike theft outside my window and before I could think about doing anything to prevent it, they were off. In hindsight, I don't know what I would have done if I had more time. Maybe try to harass them and shout from a distance. I'm not exactly scared of fighting. I'm 6'2 230lbs and trained in boxing and muay thai, known for having explosive puncher. They were a bunch of late teens I know I'd have knocked every single one of them out cold with ease (not that I have ever laid a finger on anyone outside a gym).. my biggest fear, and the reason I wouldn't get within 10 meters of any of them is the potential acid attacks, the panic and then knife attack (teens in particular get done all the time for spare of the moment knife-murders), other weapon etc... or even if I did manage to do harm to them, as satisfying as it would be I'd get fucking done by the police. So in summary, I'm not risking my freedom, or worse my life for somebody else's property. I see a lot of people giving it the would-be hero online - all too easy to type up from the safety of your own home. I think leaving it to the police is the only way really.

Lets out the 'But I'll get arrested it i intervene...' argument to bed. This is the palpably UNTRUE, and an excuse for the weak to hide behind the law. The law allows you to act to prevent a crime. It also allows you to use whatever force is REASONABLE and JUSTIFIED... As most of those who refuse to intervene will tell you, they carry weapons. At the very least one of em will have a heavy item (crowbar, metal pole etc) which they intend to use in the locks etc. That's a perfectly reasonable a ssumption.to make. Yea it usually helps but a lot of these thieves carry grinders with them to get locks off. We could immobilize our bikes too so they can't start them, but then they will start carrying HT leads and spark plugs with them. We need dealers to start fitting bikes with electronic security as standard, alarms of course but also electronic ignition/immobilizers that require the keys with codes to start. Ad we should have a way to stop the bikes remotely if jacked because that will happen more if we get the security right. Older bikes will still be most at risk though, best just take time to make it take too much time to risk stealing your bike (hopefully), multiple disc locks and chains and chain them to something and a cover. Pity we can't have 50'000 volts alarms to give them a shock of their lives if they touch our bikes. As you say a tracker is awesome to have, bikes can be found within minutes with those fitted.

Had my bike stolen recently. Police asked me "Did you park it in a motorcycle bay" to which I replied yes of course, where else can I park? My goodness!! They are so brazen. I read something about a boy that crashed and died on a scooter while being chased by the police. The police were criminally investigated. Also in the same article , the police ( metropolitan police) are extremely reluctant to chase bikers without helmets in case the bikers crash. The theives knowing this, have taken to removing their helmets when the police give chase. As Mr Temjin commented in the video, the police need more authority to handle these idiots before people start dying. My question is, are bikes that much of a valuable commodity in London? to warrant such brazen and rampant behaviour?

The threat of getting your bike stolen when parked is there BUT bikejacking is extremely rare. It is SAFE for you to ride your bike without runing into problems, just keep your eyes open.

There is a solution To carry out an attack requires two men on one bike - because 1. A lone driver cannot wield a weapon or snatch a phone on his own. He would be off balance. 2. If they are intending to steal a bike they need to carry a pillion driver who can ride the stollen bike. SO, the only thing that the police and YOU need to do is SPOT TWO MEN ON ONE BIKE. Report them as soon as you see them. Take a high resolution picture of them. The more high res the better - it is amazing the amount of detail in a good picture - police can use it to grab the criminals later.

I think the police car isn't following in the (2nd? clip) because the camera man is in the way, blocking them, also its rather pointless for a car to try to catch up to scooters in a crowded city. Then again they could have at least send a message by using the siren.

I feel bad for you English people! We have a lot of bike theft here in Florida...but most of us carry guns so anyone stealing our bikes is taking their lives into their own hands...especially if they're armed!

Install a GPS tracker, by yourselves or a GPS tracker company. Locate bike asap when stolen and inform police when found. I carry a wrench for in case the bike jacker shows up. I dont recommend this to anyone, but I just like to beat bad people.

1-How come they are starting the engine? 2-Why the people are not putting their m.bikes a protector?
