I'm a woman who's nearly 60 and I only ever listen to music from the Sixties and Seventies and I also would love to go back to those decades - even my kids were brought up on this music and they don't like what's in the charts today and they're not that old - 33 and 25! I know it's each to their own but I can't understand any woman wanting to cover herself in tattoos!

My favourite is the chemistry undergraduate at 6:20. His name is Trevor, and he's always been a bit awkward with girls, but his mate Barry wangled him the ticket for the studios, so he thought it time he stepped out with the swinging scene and put himself out in the dating market.. He always wanted to play for Queen's Park Rangers when he was thirteen, but his mum wiped his snotty nose one day and told him he'd better get some 'O' levels behind him, so here he is now, sporting his best Carnaby St jacket. He bought it in a moment of madness once when he was a bit tipsy on Watneys after a Sat afternoon session down at the The King's Arms in Soho. He quite likes that lass in the flowery frock, but she might laugh at his hip technique. Oh, go on Trev.. give her a wink, you've got nowt to loose except your test-tubes old son..

We all suffered much deflation when we heard about our teenage idols. Savile was a good DJ, having a lot of experience in Manchester, and around Yorkshire. Always thought he was odd, but regarded that as part of the show biz persona. We loved Gary Glitter as young teens. But yes, we now know the truth. We weren't at fault in those days. We were conned. Believe me, if we had known then what we know now, we would have dropped these people like a stone. It tarnishes our memories. We were very happy then, and that's what they fed off.

Going purely from memory I'd say it was "Double Barrel" by Dave and Ansil Collins(Don't think it was "Monkey Spanner") possibly "Sally" by Gerry Monroe Severine was the Euro Song winner "Un Arbre" or something Three Dog Night "Joy to the World" Jonathan King "Lazy Bones" East of Eden "Jig a Jig" Waldo de los Rios "Mozart 40" Sweet "Coco " Hurricane Smith "Don't let it die" Temptations "Just my imagination" Stones "Brown Sugar" Perry Como "It's Impossible" McGuiness Flint "Malt and barley Blues" Peter Noone -Bowie's "Oh you Pretty Things" Elvis re issued "Heartbreak Hotel" about then-that might be his at 12 Free "My Brother Jake" R Dean Taylor "Indiana Wants Me" Neil Diamond "Sweet Caroline" John Kongos "He's Gonna Step on you again" Mungo Jerry "Lady Rose" (" Baby Jump" was earlier,but it could be that though I feel it is "Lady Rose") Tami Lynn "I'm Gonna Run Away From You" Tony Christie "I did what I did for Maria" Dawn "Knock Three Times" and Middle of the Road "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" Cant think of the others Blue Mink "Stay with me" ?? This al from the top of my head; 1971 I started getting interested in pop!!

Blue Mink - Banner Man. Dave and Ansil Collins with Double Barrel (a fortnight later, it was Monkey Spanner), Gerry Monroe with "It's a Sin To Tell A Lie", Elvis with "Rags to Riches" (Heartbreak Hotel was on July or August), Neil Diamond's was "I Am... I Said" (Sweet Caroline was on January, I think) and Perry Como with "I Think of You" (It's Impossible was earlier than that, in April) As for the rest: The Hollies with "Hey Willy" and Bob and Marcia with "Pied Piper".

For me, not having been alive in the 1960s, but I notice there is a difference in the theme and message of the music from the late 60s, which one might say comprised psychedelic and political/cultural/societal/ in contrast with the early 70s, which in most cases, seem to 'fluffy soft' type of music, I could be mistaken.

That's an interesting observation and largely valid i'd say. 1971's "What's going on" , "Soldier Blue" & "Don't let it die" definitely convey comment" [ for want of a better word ] ....but after that i'm struggling. "Our world" by Blue Mink is a nice blend of fluffy escapism , brilliant melody with a gentle message.....in fact i'm going to play it right now. Cheers.
@choppy2495 жыл бұрын
You are very right. I was a youngster at the time and we all noticed the sudden change in pop music which as you correctly say turned into a sort of soft , fluffy , bubble gum sort of sound . Funnily enough the Glam Rock period was just about to emerge here too. We can look back at that small period in time as a kind of fun , not to betaken too seriously kind of pop music period really I guess. However things were shortly to change again as around 73/74 you had the West Coast sound from California really starting to make a big impact on the music scene ( Thankfully ) with bands like the Eagles and so many others . That started to put meaning and sincerity and depth back into music again . That really was a great , exciting time to be listening to music if you were still youngish and perhaps even a bit older too.
@roberthorwat67474 жыл бұрын
I was born in 1960. The seventies were definitely different but fluffy and soft? Well yes but only to a point. Silver machine, Gudbuy to Jane, Bohemian Rhapsody, Life on Mars, Stairway to Heaven, Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Fanfare for the Common Man to name but a few were anything but.
