I'm glad I found this. I had this on VHS when I was really really young in the 90s and I watched it on repeat. I'm actually really surprised I found it

I grew up watching this with my grandpa. I still have it on VHS and wasn’t sure I’d ever get to see it again. Still just as awesome today as it was 25 years ago.

I owned this tape as a kid. Loved watching it over and over. Saw the 4449 in Sacramento for Railfan 99, and saw it at it's home at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center in 2018. So beautiful to see in person.

At 28:58, the train is heading directly for where the engine house would be many years later where 4449, 700 and other locos and cars are today, as it’s just at the end of this straightaway

I wore out 5 of these VHS tapes of Daylight Express when I was a kid, I even talked with Jim Mitchell of Sky Fire years ago when they were around, I thanked him alot for his documentaries of Southern Pacific, he sent me a copy of Montana Daylight with his autograph on it

I have looked a long time for this. I used to watch it all the time as a kid. I always loved the soundtrack and the cinematography. on a side note I just noticed 1:40:39 no thanks to the highway patrol.

Almost 32 years ago. @ 56:30 The narrator says " in this age of lasers, computers, and high tech wizardry " Goddamn I want to go back to that innocent of a time. Most the people, especially the passengers in this video have long since been dead. Its fuckin sad what this world has "evolved " to since then

@@OKFrax-ys2op @O.K. Frax One can only hope I'll be dead in a few years. I'm 35, unfortunately I probably have a long way to go. In the next few years people will look at your comment and think goddamn what a dumbass for not understanding the context of what I was saying.

The narrator sounds like Richard Dreyfuss 🤔He talks how he did in 'Stand By Me' That quote from 22:16 sounds like it would fit PERFECTLY in that movie.

Dude he could be, you saying that makes me think he is.
@deerfoxthunderteam164911 ай бұрын
I'm not saying that Dreyfuss actually narrated it, the guy just sounds very similar, and has very similar line delivery. I highly doubt that they could afford Hollywood actor like him.@@nathanlove7388

This engine is so incredibly beautiful and well produced documentary! But, for odd reason I still favor Southern's 4501, and idk why
