I have to ask, who do you request permission from on a stretch of river like that. Is it the land owner on either side at your location or do you contact the river authorities? I fancy doing it as a hobby, but no idea about UK regulations etc. Yet.

You go to the little mining museum and can get a map and a panning licence there.
