It's no surprise. Most people can't afford to spend a thousand bucks on a smartphone, that's ridiculous. I think sometimes reviewers get too immersed in that flagship world and forget about the phones most people actually use

Not really, they do recommend phones for “most ppl” tho, there’s just more hype around the flagships, and it’s gotten out of control, let’s also keep in mind that ppl who buy one thousand dollar phones are the same demographic that either have cash laying around their house or won’t be upgrading anytime soon. Most ppl don't buy 1K phones straight upfront, you have to remember that alot of ppl take advantage of the yearly upgrade program with their carriers where you can buy it but pay for them monthly

Honestly speaking, not everyone can afford a thousand dollar smartphone and not everyone needs all the features or gimmicks on a phone. Some people just need a phone that can get through the day, do tasks, and not hurt their wallets. I commend/applaud KZbinrs who review budget and mid-range phones because not everyone has the luxury to afford flagships.

I can afford to buy a $1000 smartphone, but there's no way in hell I'm buying a $1000 smartphone in 2019. There are so many great affordable smartphones starting at $200 that have so many features and most importantly, they all make great phone calls. None of these "new tech" in smartphones is worth the over $1000 price tag.

Surprise surprise! Economics class! If everyone could afford flagships for everything we'd all be flying the best personal jets, helicopters, onto the world's bestest production yachts, with the quietest submarines to dig for treasure at the bottom of the Mariana trench only because grandma lost some jewelry from the titanic after losing her v-card in a CAR inside a cruise ship. Then after finding her v-card memoirs we'd send it to Mars, because grandma gave that SpaceX engineer some throat, while her dentures rubbed his balls. Meanwhile some Ring webcam was being hacked and the link was sent to the emergency broadcast system. Because Ring is the new flagship of selfies.

@@teenshii I would go as far as to say that Exynos is not powerful at all. The higher end ones are powerful but they're laughable when compared to Qualcomm and straight up sh*t when compared to Apple's. The midrange exynos are just Samsung's cheap alternatives to cut on the Qualcomm tax by compromising on the speed so very much. Also they're pushing bad alternatives to everything in android. Like the one UI instead of stock android sucks, the image processing of samsung sucks when compared to Pixel phones, Bixby is terrible when compared to google assistant. I'm a user who just changed from a Galaxy S8 to a Xiaomi MI 9T Pro. The math is simple. Why should I pay 2x the money for the same hardware? It's just nonsense, that people pay a thousand dollar for a device ,that you throw out at least after 2 years. Plus nowadays midrangers can be 2 -3 times powerful than a 2 years old flagship. An average user won't see the difference between a midrange and a flagship.

One valid point missed here is that the rate at which last years flagship drop costs people are fine waiting to go with one gen down flagships. Getting a quality product at a mid-range price. I bought the LG G7 way past its prime at less than 1/2 the cost. Works better than mid-range phones at a similar if not cheaper cost.

Really great video. In the past few years the advancements are merely curved screens, foldable phones, motorized popup cameras, in-display fingerprint readers, increasingly faster charging, wireless charging, higher resolution cameras, and obviously faster processors. Some aesthetic trends have also come about, like glass backs and funky color gradients on the back. Maybe there's more but these are the major ones. Thing is though, most of these things aren't absolute necessities and most folks just want to watch a video or check their socials, as this video states. So apart from the glamor of flagships, most folks will be perfectly happy with a mid-range along with the satisfaction that they got a terrific deal for the money. Most don't need super blazing speeds either and mid-range processors are very fast already. Phones are fast becoming like PCs. The only thing that will help it keep selling is because phones are often in your hands or pockets so there's a greater tendency to damage them, making it necessary to get a new one. Not so much with PCs that just sit on your desk and are less subject to mishaps. I came from an S9+ to a Redmi Note 8 Pro and I just love how the Redmi doesn't have that irritating curved screen and delivers very near the performance of the S9+ which was $1200 at the time of purchase, while the Redmi was just $210 after promo codes, direct from Xiaomi. As time goes on and the tech stagnates it'll be a competition based on pricing, which is already happening now. And for us that can't be a bad thing.

Good thing you spend $500 bucks on an Android Phone, I can’t imagine anyone spending over a thousand dollars on an Android phone, even $900, because after a few months when the value comes down, you can pick up the same phone for like $500-600. Absolutely, my dad is still perfectly fine with his iPhone 7. He doesn't do anything heavy, KZbin, sending emails, WhatsApp calls, browsing Facebook, he doesn't need a top tier chip and what not. Enthusiasts, on the other hand, want top tier everything, a high refresh rate screen, a top tier chip, top tier battery, top tier camera, and they're ready to drop the thousand dollar price tag for those things. For the average consumer ? Mid-range smartphones basically cover everything they need.

Thank you for the video. It is very helpful and It made me realize that it's not all about flagships.

Here's a summary from what I understood of the video: Flagships are like the developer/experimental phones, whereas midrange phones are the stable versions.

Lol I'm still using my one plus 3, 6gigs of ram, 64 gigs of storage, just recently replaced the battery so I'm getting over 6 hours of heavy usage, I'm actually fine with that I'm happy with it.

True because I have an a70. But 2 year old flagships have higher end chips for better performance at the same price. I tried comparing my a70 with a oneplus 5 and mine lost lol

I'm watching this on my Galaxy A20s, and honestly, while I'm sad I couldn't upgrade from my Note 9 to the new Note 20, the only things I miss on this phone are wireless charging, camera and water resistance - my Note 9 spent the night under water, and I can't tell you the cold fear that clutched my heart when I was looking for it and phoning from another phone and saw the pool of water start flashing!

As an early subscriber(from 2016) I do remember back in 2017 when you recommended the note 3 as a real budget phone, and compared the s7 to 2017 midrangers, however I'm not sure if that's still the case...I'm hoping that you would make a video about something like that again...it would be great if u did. Thanks.
