As someone who read "Ready Player One", the book pretty much shows how people try to escape the harsh reality by living in a unreal digital universe showing how this affect the whole society. What's even worse is how a company tries to "own" that digital universe. It's hard to believe that something that was always portrayed as fictional, which even showed it's gigantic negative effects on people's mental health and society is could become real. If an addiction to social media is already a problem, imagine an entire immersive universe.
@StreakyBaconMan8 ай бұрын
I find it funny how basically every movie with a metaverse portrays it as basically a bad thing, yet every company seems to love to say their metaverse is going to be "like ready player one or the matrix". In ready player one if I remember correctly at the end of the book they start to spend LESS time in the metaverse and more time in the real world, and the giant soulless corporation is defeated after attempting to control the metaverse for profit like these companies do. And the Matrix they just straight up just want to leave the metaverse all together and live in the real world, and the only person who DID want to be in the metaverse was also a bad guy who killed people to get back there.

@VideoGameStarChannelSupreme3 жыл бұрын
Yep, which also means that our culture will be stuck, cause people won't have to think about anything, because the "right" and "wrong" have been fixed on us to a point where most people would think it's objective. When reality is, our moral values have changed over time as the species evolves. And a big company with that power can easily halt it all in fear of change, because again, the people running it behind closed doors have the same fear as everyone else: "not being the one in control", or in other words, "the unknown" and whatnot. I still think that for now, I'll just hang in my real self. I know how to use VR chat and can even get a VR headset if I want to... just I don't think it's gonna be any better for me. It's kinda just pointless until an entire consciousness transfer is possible.

As a user and creator of that content it will be all the same to you, but for the old hard drive (if it had the ability to think and feel), it makes no difference if a copy was made before being smashed, it will experience exactly the same thing regadless (being smashed and thrown away).

A simple question that I have: If I could look better in the metaverse, do great things in the metaverse, have a huge number of positive interactions and activities in the metaverse, why on earth would I ever come back to the real life? I would take the bare minimum of sustenance in the real life, and live out the rest of my life in the metaverse. I would call this the "Avatar Paradox". In the movie "Avatar (2009)", there was a dialogue of Jake, which says, "It feels like out there is the reality, and in here the dream." (Obviously, I'm paraphrasing, but you get the idea). So I would probably live out my life in the dream. But I think it might have real issues such as people losing touch with reality, and the entire world living in a comatose situation, with their brains connected in the virtual world. It feels kind of dystopian.

Depresses me only to think that people are fine with not experiencing REAL WORLD you canot feel the wind, touch or emotions its all fake, fake experience fake feels and fake people at the maximum. Like people buying nft-s of a guitar or a car, rather than to buy an actual guitar and learn to play it and in some cases it's even a lot cheaper. I'm just disappointed with people of today.

@@Skyward23Fpv Scientifically speaking, what you feel is just nerve impulses and brain chemicals... It's not that hard for tech to be able to stimulate feeling in that same way. That's where the whole 'brain in a jar' thing comes from. Not to mention, reality has limits. A virtual one does not. It's all about how it's executed. Sure the metaverse might be a ploy for even better datamining and profiling of people, but a fully virtual world where you can do and feel things in a better way than the real world will most likely occur. If not now, in the future.

@@adeeshadeegala5900 I understand you, but how the real world will look like? Kids these day are so sensitive about everything rl, because they lack touch to the real world I see it on day to day basis, I don't see how meta verse can help, only becoming much worse and making yung sensitive minds more fragile close up the world society, loosing all your day in a safe environment, but the reality is other way around, I was scared shitless of making first motorcycle jump or backflip but that makes you feel soo alive when you accomplis it and rewarding there is no game trophy that can replace that. Also I see it as a problem if the new generation in future start earning money in this univers the whole real world will come apart and that is a fact. Feeling satisfied with your virtual place and living in a hole when you can turn the thing the other way around in real life is wrong and for meta it will work because people don't like hard stuff in life they we want it all easy and smooth even if it's fake...

Preparing the world's mind for such changes has a special word. It's called "predictive programming". You see it on TV, your mind accepts it and has less resistance down the line when it is actually brought into real life.

The quote from the World Economic Forum "You will own nothing and be happy", and combine that with the idea of the Metaverse, where, if the worse comes, and you won't need a car, a physical job to go to, or anything really, just an internet connection, a place to be comfy in your home, and of course food and water, which who knows, in the future could be sent to you via a drone or something, kind of makes sense. Of course this is just speculation, but the concept of that is kind of freaky. The idea on paper sounds cool, but in reality, when the technology finally reaches to where the ultimate use of the Metaverse is here, I think that it may have a strongly negative side affect to people's mental and emotional state. Today's social media already has this affect on a lot of people, but this could take that dial up to 11. I think we need to be severely cautious about the Metaverse, despite how cool some of the positive concepts sound.

Anytime you see huge multi-billion dollar corporations push something like this so much, you should be VERY concerned. My favorite comment with companies like this is, "If they could make more money making widgets, they would make widgets." principle of this? It's all about money. So their ultimate goal is to take even more money (higher percentage) then they do now. If this was some grassroots movemement using some indie based software, I would be much more welcoming. But I see this much like I see blockchain video games. It's a huge moneygrab.
@ShazenVideos2 жыл бұрын
Ofcourse it's about making money, they're not pouring billions of dollars into a project out of pure good will. It will be monetized, it will have ads everywhere, perhaps premium subscriptions and paid events. But the Metaverse will have to be appealing to get people on board. For that, they will have to make it accessible and fun for the broad audience. You won't see much BS on the platform for the first few years at least.

It's like the first time I discovered internet, there is everything on the internet, You can learn, get to know about anything or you can waste your time. Only one thing you need is to be a little smart & have some self-control.
