It's extremely baffling how much of a grip Apple has on its user base. I have a top end 2022 flagship Android phone with an awesome camera. At a work event last year a group of colleagues wanted to take a photo and I was keen to offer up my phone for it, and was immediately shunned because it was an android over someone else's base level 3-year-old iPhone, which absolutely did not take better pictures than my phone. I think you're spot on with the aspirational POV, as Android caters to both the budget shopper as well as high end.

I think the only reason Apple is doing well is due to Option Fatigue and Ecosystem advantages. At times people just need less options. If someone wants a new phone, they have many options to choose from and that brings a lot of fear of misjudgement. But with Apple they just need to get the new one or something in their budget because except for number of cameras, not much will be different and once they buy an iPhone they invariably go for other apple accessories without looking at the price.
@alexyps2155 Жыл бұрын
No, that's not what happens. We all know that they just buy apple products just because they are of fashion these days for some reason. It wouldn't make sense too because it is actually better having more options to get a phone that's fitting you and iphones are overpriced phones with poor performance. I actually shifted away from iPhone because I've always been a bit of a power user. My very first phone was an Android but then my parents kept surprising me for holidays with the newest iPhone. I definitely loved it at first, but as I got an android tablet and saw videos about all the cool things you can do (as well as getting into tinkering and technical computer stuff more), I shifted away to android again when I started paying my own phone bill and buying my own phones. I just love being able to root it for full access, downloading APKs to get almost any app for free, and installing system wide adblockers. To everyone who has teased me for using an android in the past. _At least I don't have to see youtube ads nor did I have to pay for any of my apps._

The last line of yours really represents us the real conscious Android user. I mean what I think would be a shame for an Android users is that they just simply didn't know how to maximize & utilize Android to what it capable of, like you said, one of it would be an option for us to be able to install apps from a 3rd party source, and the best part was there's an option for modded apps, I can simply lay on some premium features within an app for free if i were using an Android, but of course if we'd tried to work and have an income, i guess it'll be a wise choice to spend your money to actually buy the premium features with real money to support the developer
@RedVRCC4 ай бұрын
@@28Corner I can understand where you're coming from but I have a very limited income and I don't really care about certain developer's getting their income (like google, who owns youtube for example) because of how greedy and anti-consumer they already are. @@mayavi93 weird because I've never had any such issues. I never install anything that seems even the slightest bit unsafe. As for speed, I always buy top end android phones nowadays so there is literally no noticeable impact on performance. On the other hand, the benefits are extreme. I can customize my phone to a much deeper level, install a system wide adblocker, and watch youtube with no ads thanks to revanced. Sure apple might be better for some people but I prefer to actually be able to fully control what my device does, looks like, performs, and displays on screen. Plus top end android phones have matching or yes, sometimes even better specs than the latest iPhone while often being cheaper. Paying a premium for a brand name is lame.

I switched from an iPhone 13 Pro to a Samsung Galaxy a few days ago. I've had iPhones for the last 10 years, and I switched away because I was ready for something new, not because I was upset with Apple. I really love my Galaxy, and I don't foresee myself going back anytime soon. However, I have had multiple people ask me why their texts to me are now green and why the fonts on my SnapChats is weird. Whenever I tell them I got a Samsung, they seem disappointed. That is really odd to me, as it's my phone, not theirs. Edit: for everyone asking, I just got an S22. IPhones are made to be locked down to fancy sh*tty HWs and people still justify that... The entire iPhone 14 lineup is a joke except the 14 pro/pro max... Their SW update is still on par with the SW update on Samsung (some features and animations are limited on new lineups)... And the UI is... Horrendous... Still Samsung is no better in some things like for example the decision to remove APTX HD but it is just a single issue... Not tons of issues...

@GrantsPerspective Жыл бұрын
Also as a hobbyist musician and IT guy; adding ringtones to iPhones is actually pretty simple and I got my CENA theme I had on my Samsung S21 on my iPhone in around 2 minutes. Sure it's probably not as easy, but editing and exporting your 5-10 second snippet from a DAW/audio editor of choice takes longer than the process of getting them on the device. There's plenty of other reasons why "customizability" is a think on Android and it is primarily sideloading/external APKs being allowed, and the ability to change loaders for more custom gestures/icon packs/etc.. If you're not doing this, then you really wouldn't be too different on an iPhone, tbqh.

Yeah, smartphones need longer software support. My iPhone 6 Plus from 2014 is still getting security updates in 2023, and the 2015 generation got iOS 9 through 15. It’s not my main phone anymore(I use the 13 mini), but I still use it around the house. My friend gifted me a flagship Galaxy S8 that got like 2.5 years of updates, and my friend’s “flagship killer” One Plus 6(2018) was bricked by the sunsetting of 3G less than 4 years later. That iPhone 6 is still fully capable of calls on cellular networks, something most would say is an integral function of a smartphone. Not every iOS use upgrades like a rabid animal, though some certainly do. I just like my stuff to last. The 2018 iPad Pro is worth a look, as it is almost as capable as the new ones with how iPadOS stands currently. I got one(256 and cellular!) for $350/400 a year or so ago to replace my ancient iPad 2, lol. Needless to say, I use my iPad a lot more than I ever did. All storage options other than the terabyte get 4GBs, which is double the amount of the model I’m sure you have(9.7”). I won’t lie, I am tempted by that iPad mini 6th gen. I’ll get one when the iPad Pro gets old.

The comment of " Apple allows" is really telling, that is why I choose to stick with Android, Apple just seems to have too much control over the devices they make, and I get really irritated that if I buy a very expensive phone from Apple, they are then going to tell me how I can or cannot use it. I know Android has its issues, but Apples controlling behavior is just too much.

Apple barely control anything, they limit you but never control. They actually give you a lot of freedom within that limited area. I prefer this then the anything goes approach of Android because I'd rather not beta test a feature that Apple will get in a few years done better. One major point in the area of stability is software support. Android manufacturers are starting to promise 5 years. Apple has provided 7+ years for ages. I do miss the times when Android phone manufacturers took bigger risks with their designs/features. I wonder if this rather-recent unwillingness to take risks is partially linked to Covid-related slowdown of the economy and quarantines. As for iPhone's networking effect. Being from a country where the default messaging/video chatting tools are the messaging apps (WA/TG) but still with a fairly large share of iPhone users, I've never seen anyone actually use iMessage and FaceTime (I'd never even heard about the iMessage Android incompatibility thing before the MKBHD's video on the blue and green bubbles). I think he's spot on in saying risk doesn't sell. There are no new "wow" features that people want - people want better camera, better battery life, and their apps that they were using before, that's all. So manufacturers make just that. I am one of these people because the phone is now a fixed part of my life. I have no interest playing around with the tech - I want it to change as little as possible, because I spend my time on other things. Even apps - I don't like when they keep updating, every time they break stuff - I just want to keep using the same UI... or they release a new version of iOS and there's a ton of needless changes - I'd rather it stays the same. I just need it to work, and get out of my way.

I literally just switched from my iphone 12 pro max to a galaxy z flip 4 today. I really really love my new phone. Its been really interesting seeing everyone's reaction to me moving from iphone to android. Personall, I enjoy my tech most when its exciting and innovative. I giggle every time I open and close my phone. There's a joy and childlike wonder to this phone that just wasn't there the last time I upgrade. It feels like a new toy that I want to play with, rather than a chore to keep up with whats new. As long as it brings genuine joy into my life, and does the job it needs to do, I don't care about specs, and as long as android keeps making new, fun stuff, I'm gonna stick with it.

I only had my $850 Samsung S8 for about 19mos before it became obsolete. They quit supporting it with even Urgent updates 2yrs after it first came out and since I bought mine late it turned into a doorstop early. It wasn't even paid for yet! My SE3 gets support for about 6yrs. Apple usually has a Security Patch in days when new malware is identified. It took Samsung about 3 months for the same process because not only did they have to wait for Google's patch, but then they had to program it to work on Samsung's proprietary overlay of the user interface. I will never go back just for these security reasons even though I loved my S8. I'm very happy with the iPhone SE. Another bonus, try calling Samsung Customer Service (if it even exits). I can get an English speaking human iPhone Tech on the phone just about anytime I choose to call or I can stop at an Apple Store to speak to someone in person.

What difference does it make? An android phone that is at the "same level" (I am putting it under quote marks because I've yet to see a an android phone that matches the apple quality) is usually the same price or more expensive than an iPhone. So, if I want a quality product, why would I buy a more expensive android?

Honestly, I feel like Android is getting worse in a way. I used to love OnePlus, but now it's down the drain and just rebranded Oppos. Since then, I haven't found any Android phone/brand that convinced me enough in terms of innovation or price.

The app store and lack of modifying are the reasons I won't go apple. I've spent to much time on android that I don't want to loose all purchases, side loading and customizing my layout to go for apple. Love the build quality and that the product works extremely well, and I was almost tempted with the 14 pro max, but leant towards a fold 4 instead.

Exactly this! Apple users love to be restricted it seems.
@seanlinehan1136 Жыл бұрын
@@superskunknlit's not about being restrictive, although it technically is. It's about convenience. A good comparison is the watch market. Rolex, omega, AP, etc are all objectively more well crafted and personal. High end furniture is well built and has more longevity. So why don't ppl buy them aside from cost?? Bc they like low quality? No. It's bc the alternatives are convenient. Cheap furniture is easy to construct. Digital and smart watches don't require winding. And apple doesn't require any customization. Consumer don't want quality, they want convenience. The average consumer has no desire to tweak any out of box features, but I realize those commenting on vids like this are those who prefer to tweak.

This goes both ways. Anyone on Apple doesn't want to lose all their stuff. I mean I've had Itune/Apple music since it launched, I have over 3000 songs on my phone, not to mention all my other apps and games. Plus majority of my accessories and other tech items are for Apple too. For me to buy a different phone i'd have to change more then just a phone if I wanted maximum accessibility and customisation. Also Apple isn't that restrictive, you can do all the basic stuff and more. Android just let you run wild which sometimes isn't good and majority of the time isn't even needed considering what 90% of people use their phones for.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with a flagship phone nowadays which is where the talk all is. The thing is, iPhone is just a status. Everyone follows the crowd. The vast majority of the people I know have an iPhone and its just boring. When I see someone with an Android, it instantly makes me smile because it shows they don't just follow the crowd. As a young person in the UK, everyone just has an iPhone. That's why I use Android, I like to be unique!

Very good. The only association I have with Apple is the shares I have. I don't use their products and there's a very insecure and "follower" mentality with people that do. It's like a cult of conformers. I am independent by nature and it shows even in my selection of phones that I have.

Why android (as phone) feels better to me is because of the app icon order. I can change where my apps are, I can apply my widgets to it (like live Google agenda) and I like the camera settings more.
