Doom was the first game I remember ever playing. This was probably 2000, I was about 7-8 years old then I pretty much always thought computers were cooler than consoles

As a MegaDrive owner back in the day, I was impressed by the sound and gameplay of Dune 2. PC games had a depth console games were not used to. It was games like that, which lead me to build my first PC. Great episode as usual!

Very nice retrospective. I agree with you. A console has a lifecycle, while on the PC, as a system, it doesn't die. Hardware changes, a lot, but as system goes on. That may be the main reason why people are not as nostalgic. That being said, there's lot of people who still care about the good old PC.

Another BIG thing is your computer games will ALWAYS be replayable on a computer.. Even a 30 year old pc game can be played on the newest computers.. Consoles just forget about probably half or more of their old games. Not to mention the resolution keeps scaling up with pc games. Far cry from 2004 still looks really good at 1080p or 2k which helos make it even more playable

I was a huge DOS gamer....back then i had a 386...were I could play SimCity...on monochrome monitor....with windows 3.1... But the games that i spend more time on DOS was the first championship manager....Italian League.... So many memories... Your video is great...as usual.. you're a true master...

Me too. I have an old machine where i still play Windows 98 and XP games (dual boot) and even some DOS games. You're right, there are compatibility issues with Windows Vista/7/8/10. In a game, more important to me than the graphics is gameplay and storyline.

So it's true, you still play dune II :) ! I played it back in 1992 with only PC speaker sounds. I just got a soundblaster compatible soundcard around 1997 for my ageing 386sx. The first thing i did was to re-play Dune II for the whole Xmas hollidays. It was like a new game! I wish I had time to do that again !

A year after I bought this IBM PS/1, I managed to grab a second-hand soundblaster card along with a single speed CD-ROM drive and I recall that I was eager to play MegaRace! It was my first CD-ROM game! :) Thanks for sharing your memories! Have a great week!

OMG, what memories! I, too, started with an Amiga in 1990. I LOVED it! But I, too, had to abandon it for a 486 PC. The sound and graphics for the PC improved so much that it soon surpassed the Amiga. Still, the joy that my Amiga brought me will *always* be with me.

I agree with what you said about commodore riding the Amiga into the ground. I jumped from Amiga to PC in 1994. This was a period of exponential growth in everything PC, RAM and CPU and hard drives and my Amiga was stuck with incremental improvements.

Thank you so much for leaving your feedback! I was also an Amiga user :) I recall that, after I bought this IBM back in September of '93, it didn't have a soundcard. I only managed to get one a year later. So, I used to work on stuff on Windows 3.11 (the one that came pre-installed on the machine) while listlening to the soundtrack of Turrican 2 on the Amiga, 'cause, if you recall, if we press the space bar whilst on the main menu, the game offers a sort of jukebox in where we can choose one of the awesome tracks by Chris Huelsbeck :) I miss those days! This video deserves more views. Though it didn’t age well in terms of the message, that there’s no nostalgia for dos gaming. Today i would say that there is a huge nostalgia for dos gaming. To be fair, 5 years ago the dos retro gaming movement was not as popular on KZbin as it is today.

Yes def more Dos Gaming videos, This was awesome... At the time I had a 386 DX33 w/8mb ram... It came with a 100mb HD I think. I remember paying like $400 for a 1GB HD it was crazy. Back then I ran a dual node Wildcat BBS and we use to trade games. My buddy got a 486 DX2 66 ( like in the video ) I was so jealous, then a few years later he gets a Pentium 60. Great times in the PC and gaming.

The time of DOS games across maybe a decade was more influential on the games that I (still) play today, than my Commodore 64 and Amstrad years that preceded this time, and all the Steam games that I can play now. It shaped my likes and dislikes, and the friends that played these games with me still are all around, today!

I got my first PC in about 96-97, it was a Windows 1995 Pentium machine but I'd always exit to DOS for gaming because back then Windows was very taxing for the hardware. And I had plenty of old, shareware games. I think Epic Pinball was the first PC game I ever played. DOS FPS were mind blowing..Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Rise of the Triad, Exen, Heretic, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake..I also started emulating the C64 on that machine (does anyone remember C64S by Miha Peternel?). Like you, I also played the last Amiga classics (eg. Worms) actually under DOS. I agree with you about why retrogaming on PC is not as popular as on consoles but I think there are other reasons too: Collecting for very old PCs is not easy or convenient, it requires a lot of dedication and some technical know how (let alone room!). A lot of people will just go the easy route and buy, say, Doom for the PSX to handle their nostalgia.

Yeah, Rise of the Triad, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, Exen, Heretic... so many awesome games! I love collecting Big Box PC games, mostly the ones that really left a huge mark in my youth. I agree that DOS gaming isn't for everybody, but there were so many incredible exclusives that can't simply be forgotten. And, yes, old PCs requires tons of space ;) Now I have a Pentium II machine to explore in future videos ;) Thank you so much for leaving your feedback, Amerigo!

played so many dos games from 1992-1996. filled up hard drive and used to use Pkzip to zip the games to fit more on my 1 gig quatum fireball hard drive... my power menu was full all put in order from flight sims to adventure games. i remember falcon 4 was good, i used to get every issue of pz zone then with a disk or cdrom first issue i got was the one with heroes of might and magic on the front..... i stopped buying pc games when commanche 3 came out as my computer a fast 486 couldnt play it . Just to get sound on your PC in 1993 cost $220 AUD dollars $150 USD thats like $400 in todays money , we get that today for like $10 extra built into the motherboard a simple sound chip

Would you reccomend more to get a dos pc and monitor rather than playing through dosbox on a windows 10? I wanna play Heroes of might and magic 2,and the sound is messed up(scratching/popping) and the resolution is terrible. So is it more worth to get or build old dos system?

If you own an old system, restore it. It's the best way to enjoy these old games. But be aware that old PCs tend to break easily and the best parts are becoming too expensive, like 3DFX cards and audio products. There's always the GOG option. All those gems from the past, including Might and Magic, are available. Many aren't as well optimized as we would like. Thank you so much for watching and for your questions! Have a great weekend! HI ! regards from Russia ! In my teen years in the 90's I enjoyed dos games, like Stunts, DooM, Monkey Island II, Wolf 3D, Warcraft II and X-wing ! Now have a collection of retro computers 1981-2001 years. Also I've been 4 times to Portugal - (also 3 in Brasil) in 2009 bought in Lisbon a PII Compaq laptop for 50Euros. And have fiound on the street a socket 7 dual server - in 2011 in Lisbon - took from it home two 64meg. simm72 modules - it was too heavy and big for airplane to be taken - even mainboard was too big )

Also, I like how you restored your DOS PC, rather than use a DOSBOX in Windows. The trouble with DOSBOX is that it does not emulate the Adlib FM synthesis quite right. Some games made ingenious use of FM synthesis for sound effects and musical instruments, and they don't sound correct in DOSBOX, sadly.

Boas Pedro... cm sabes foi uma era que nao convivi,neste tempo andava na Atari 2600,master system e famiclones,sabes que nesta epoca os computadores nao eram conhecidos pra jogos,mas sim pra trabalho,na minha visao e na experiencia da minha zona,so por meados de 2000 ouve aquele boom de gaming no PC,com osDooms, Unreals Tounaments,Quakes Arenas e tb por ser muito mais facil arranjar jogos,neste caso cópias em relação ás consolas,foi no PC que joguei Max Payne,Enter the matrix,Midtown Madness,Quake 3 arena,Unreal tournament,a serie Comandos,Colin macrae 2,3,04e05,os GTAS e Needs Undergrounds que rebentaram na epoca :D obrigado pela mençã, partilhares um sistema e era que nao passei e trazeres boas memorias,realmente o PC nao sei pke,pelo menos pra mim,nao traz aquela nostalgia e sentimento de "jogatanas" que tivemos nas consolas,alias cm sabes nem se ve muito e nem é muito comum colecionadores de PC,tirando tu que gostas bastantes,a unica coisa que se vai vendo,é as Big Boxes,se reparares,mais modernos nada,aliás,a maioria da adopção digital ta nos PCgamers,tb percebo que o preço em relação ás versoes fisicas das consolas :D Grande Abraço Pedro!

Finais de 80 e início de 90 foi uma altura em que os PCs começaram a ficar mais acessíveis, graças à proliferação dos compatíveis IBM. Mesmo assim, 99% deles não vinham com placa de som. Isso fazia com que o gamer que vinha do Spectrum, do Commodore 64 ou do Amiga, e que gostava de fazer mais do que simplesmente jogar, não se atirasse de cabeça para o PC. Provavelmente comprava um novo Amiga mais potente em vez de comprar um PC, pois o Amiga já vinha preparado para tudo e podia ligar-se a um simples TV. Eu seria um desses, caso não tivesse optado por programação e computadores na escola. Ainda estive um aninho a jogar neste meu IBM sem placa de som, com os "beeps" a saírem pelo PC speaker! Quando finalmente comprei a minha primeira placa de som SoundBlaster, em segunda mão, que vinha juntamente com um leitor de CD-ROM de 1 velocidade, foi como se tivesse comprado uma máquina totalmente nova! Foi uma mudança de 180º! Que fantástico! E nunca mais olhei para trás! O Amiga que tinha passou a servir exclusivamente para aqueles jogos exclusivos que não viriam a sair para outros sistemas, até porque em '94 a Commodore faliu, pois o rápido avanço dos PCs tinham conseguido ultrapassar tudo e todos ;) O PC foi, também, a minha fonte para as jogatanas online e em rede. Tantas memórias boas de convívio com amigos a jogar Motocross Madness 2, ReVolt, Age of Empires, etc! Não tenho esse tipo de memórias com outro sistema. Sou PC gamer desde '93, mas nunca fui fanboy disto ou daquilo. Gosto de experimentar de tudo e, como disse, o PC gaming precisa de mais pessoas a falar sobre esses grandes jogos, principalmente do início dos anos 90, pois foi aí que o PC começou a despertar atenção de tudo o que envolve este mundo dos videojogos. Em relação à adopção dos jogos digitais por parte dos PC gamers, isso diz respeito aos novos PC gamers, porque os PC gamers mais velhos, como eu, sempre irão preferir o físico. O grande problema é que, atualmente, os jogos físicos em PC continuam a vir em DVD, pois ninguém tem um leitor de blu-ray no PC. Essa vai ser a facada final no físico no PC. Por exemplo, o DiRT4 vem em 5 ou 6 DVDs, tal como o GTA V. Estive a sacar o Destiny 2 que está gratuito até 18 de novembro, e o jogo ocupa uns singelos 81 GB no disco. Portanto, formato físico no PC tem mesmo os dias contados, infelizmente. Obviamente que a vantagem de não ter que pagar um extra para jogar online atrai muito jogador para o PC. Na podcast esqueci-me de referir que, entre 2005 e 2009, o que eu jogava no PC era os jogos da Simbin (GRT 2, Race 07, GT Legends) e o Richard Burns Rally, pois estava inscrito numa série de campeonatos online e era o que eu jogava no PC nessa altura. Todos os outros títulos de outros géneros jogava na PS2, Xbox e X360 ;) Grande abraço, Simão!

E pouco depois investi no velhinho Logitech Momo Racing, que já tinha o FF :) Foi quando o Richard Burns Rally se tornou jogável, pois até então, com teclas, era impossível ;) Abraço, Simão!

Boas. Joguei imenso ms-dos, no meu velinho 486. Joguei tantos mas tantos jogos que mts deles nem do nome me lembro. Doom, foi daqueles jogos que joguei imenso. Que saudades dessa imagem de ambiente do win 95... ainda me lembro de ficar maravilhado da transição do win 3.1 para o win 95...que graficos poderosos na altura LOLOL Eish..dune 2 era tão bom, foi devido a ele que comecei depois a jogar age of empires. Oh porra...esse pinball eu lembro-me de o jogar, tenho uma vaga ideia desse jogo.... Esse Cannon tb me lembro de jogar, na altura lembro-me de dizer que era os lemmings tropas...LOLOLOL Micromachines tb foi no dos que joguei a primeira vez. adorava... Epa, cada minuto que passa, e é so recordações a sair da cabeça....esse crazy cars tb joguei...era super divertido,e tinha uns graficos bastante limpos para a altura. Chegas-te a jogar o jogo da Nesquik? joguei tanto tambem... Muito gostava de voltar a jogar esse jogos num pc antigo... Obrigado por estes 13 minutos que deram para reviver imenso o passado... PC is the best system. There's no other system on the market that can trace her lineage from 1983 uninterrupted, a person could have a PC from 1983 and have upgraded part by part all the way to now. Long live the mighty PC, the arcade in our homes, some of us' livelihoods even!

That way dos Boxed Games are relatively low priced in comparison to Retro Console games. - My Number one game is Master Of Orion 2. So DOS is best for me. Best wishes
