As much as I appreciate your last 2 sentences, I think that generalisation you made is not valid. There are spoilt people in every generation. And talking about why there are youngsters who are spoilt, it's because of the parents/environment they are brought up in so you cannot blame them entirely and while I agree that there are individuals who are spoilt, we got to look at things at the bigger picture before making a stereotype towards people.

Lin Ah Shui As the future pillars of Singapore we the younger generations, I have to disagree. Heng Swee Keat is a finance minister, economist in training. An economist do what is good for the economy of a country. Socialism what the opposition parties always advocate free this, free that, huge subsidies this and that, no increase of GST all that. I would like to ask them to not vote and ruin the future of future generations. The world is designed to be capitalist we merely navigate the system. The government didn’t choose to be in a capitalist society it was the world who done that. A simple equation for you GDP(Y) = consumption(C)+ investment (I) + government(G) + Net export (NX). Why is gdp stagnating ez economy not looking good everyone tighten belt spend less and (C) decreases so gdp decreases. The world tighten the belt, (I) decreases so gdp decreases. Government tighten belt fiscal policy tightening gdp decreases too etc etc and net export decreases all decreases. So a country is lead by knowledge not by sentiment and socialism. GST is a necessary evil, to Ensure future infrastructure demands are met. You surely don’t dig a hole only when you wanna shit right, you dig it in advance. Prep for rainy day. People might say use our reserves save so much for what, Guess what we are an island nation with no depth of land no natural resources like palm oils Malaysia have or fossil oils or coal other nations have at minimal have land if don’t have oil we have none. They can easily cash in by turning to those resources in times of need so seriously as the world gets more expensive our reserves have to increase at a higher rate then those growth it’s that easy. It’s not about this generation or my generation it’s to Ensure survival and preparedness of the future generations. As always we cannot Ensure everyone understand this as a student and the future generation I sometimes worry for my future when I see so many dumb voters not saying you but generally those who support workers party or SDP that promotes free this and that no GST and free health care may I ask where does those money come from. It will simply mean tax more on the rich to sustain those service the rich do not owe any of us a living they are rich by their own hard work of course those illegal and bad people we exclude and they should be dealt with by the law. If your rich by your own hard work and merit would you want to get taxed more to sustain the needs of country income to Ensure infrastructure stays usable, no. So GST is required as a countries needs increases simple as 123. For future people who read this, know this I am 23 a student. If you disagree strongly then I have to say, your that cause of future generations instability if simple economy also cannot understand. Also look at Indonesia and europe or France especially when oil price increases people come out in droves to protest is that how a country should be I would like to ask. That is socialism spoilt brats. It is damaging to a country look at France now.

@@florencelow8610 The singapore budget this tuesday 18 2020 will address immediate concerns due to ongoing coronavirus (covid 19) impact. Sure my response might not be 100% but, it is pretty much a 90% in accuracy. Economy is the study of apt use of limited resources to in turn create value for the people or the country. In our case, singapore, we have no land, no natural resources, not even fishes to turn to. We cant even grow crops to sustain our economy. Not our neighbours malaysia and indonesia with bulk of their economy in palm oil, service industry(huge land for resorts) hence the huge service industry. what can singapore compete in these 2 arena in terms of natural resources and also land? none. Even our military requires the land of foreign nations such as america, australia, taiwan, thailand to name a few to conduct military training all year round for decades. The point is our leaders by far is the best surely they aint always right but look at it this way, in times of need would you doubt them? no. There is no other country on earth not even switzerland not even japan these two countries known for their efficiency could match us in terms of productivity and the good use of resources. with a population of less than 5.7million our GDP is at 1.36Trillion dollars which amounts to 0.33% of the worlds economy. Nothing significant, yup. But we are double of vietnam, more than half of malaysia with a poulation that is 5 times more than us. As i mentioned previously, the world is a capitalist system not our government that designed it. They merely navigate the best they could. And so far they haven't let me down with all the important policies for finance and the economy of singapore. Should one day our government abolish GST etc which surely everyone including myself wished for, note this it would be the end. The reserves of singapore is strictly confidential because it is of paramount strategic concern to remain secret and ambiguous so that no nation on earth can threaten us and know how long we could last with our reserves. And in the case of corona, because of our huge reserves we can afford to support various industries hit hard by the corona virus and still emerge partly unscathed foreseeable. Of course shops and companies will close down, just like life what rises will decline. If at all i am saying anything is this, we choose not our future but we plan our future as we jolly well only have one in it. P.S just ignore all my grammatical errors, punctuation, sentence structure etc. I am typing while jogging 10km at 3am lol.

What has become of our Singapore's society? School childrens are left to fend for themselves ending up with no parental guidances. Why is it so? It is a double income when 'father & mother' must work to make ends meet. Then, there are racist parents who taught their children wrong values in life. My two boys in school experienced this racist attitude when their Chinese classmates told them not to mix with their Malay classmates. Where is the multi-racialism of harmony when these wrong values come from their racialist parents. Even, 'Majulah Singapura' these children refused to sing. Finally....dah habis!
