my best friend is from Pakistan and this show was a cultural movement for her family and the whole city she lives in - she even told me that it extended throughout the entire country and the news outlets talked about it and interviewed cast members with great pride. Very grateful to get to watch you two experience this show :3 many try to push people to skip it but Iman Velani NEEDS to be enjoyed because she is a true delight and, in my opinion, just what the MCU needs.

Iman Velani (Kamala Khan) was hired on her high school graduation day. This is her first time acting. She is also a Marvel nerd(self proclaimed). Her favorite character was/is Ms Marvel. Not to mention Clark Kent, Louis Lane, Matt Murdock, Sue Storm, Bruce Banner, Reed Richards... comic book writers in the 50s did that to make the names easy for kids to remember

I loved this show. Zoe's costume for the Con was a great Easter egg. Down to the hairstyle, it was a great nod to Carol's original look when she debuted as Ms. Marvel back in the 70s.

Fun fact: The guy in the after-credits bit that said "Bring her in" was also in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He was the one interrogating Ned at the police station.

One of my faves of the MCU shows, I’d love to see Spider-Man and Ms Marvel together. Their energy and chemistry together would be a lot of fun to watch Don’t know if you did notice but Bruno’s actor is the same actor who plays Henry in Walking Dead

I think one of the coolest things about this show is that Iman Velani has also gone on to write a Ms. Marvel comic run. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s in my collection just waiting for me. I just think it’s incredible that. A super Marvel nerd not only stared in her own show as a prominent character, but also got to write (at least) five comics for that same character.

WOO-HOO! I loved Ms. Marvel! Iman Vellani is AMAZING. (She’s almost just playing herself. IRL she is a HUGE Marvel fangirl who had never acted before but one of her aunties sent her a notice about an open casting call. She sent in a tape and was asked to come in for auditions and was eventually selected unanimously!)

Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers) was introduced in the late 70's when DC threatened to make female knockoffs of some of Marvel's characters. Over the years there have been many characters ideas borrowed by the other side. Namor The Sub-Mariner/ (Aquaman), The Flash/Quicksilver, Batman/Knight hawk, Deathstroke: The Terminator/Deadpool. So Marvel created three new heroes. Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew), She-Hulk (Jennifer Walters) and Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers). (Ms. Marvel vol.1 #1 January 1977) Carol went through many changes over the years. Losing her powers and memories to Rogue from the X-Men when Rogue was part of the Brotherhood with Mystique. Carol signed on with the Star Jammers a group of galactic pirates headed by Scott Summers dad known as Corsair. Carol went through some experiments by an alien race called The Brood and ended up with cosmic powers calling herself Binary. (Uncanny X-Men vol. 1 #164). When her Binary powers went on the fritz she headed back to Earth and went by the code name Warbird. (Avengers vol. 3 #4 May 1998). Then later went on to take the title of her mentor Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell). (Avenging Spider-Man vol. 1 #9 July 2012). Ms. Marvel #2 was Sharon Ventura a girlfriend of Benjamin Grimm (The Fantastic Four's Thing) and got augmented by The Power Broker. Appeared in The Thing vol. 1 #35 Ms. Marvel #3 Karla Sofen (Moonstone/Meteorite) appeared in Captain America vol. 1 #192 December 1975. Ms. Marvel #4 the latest incarnation. Khamala Khan originally an inhuman of Pakistani descent but who has now been transformed as a mutant. Why so many versions of comic book characters...to retain the copyright. If you do not publish the character in a title you can lose the copyright. So either it's the same powers but a different individual or a relative with similar powers and abilities. Phew 😅

Khamala Khan in the comics had stretching powers similar to Mr. Fantastic. She called it embiggening. In the MCU her powers are artifact based.

Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers was originally known as Ms. Marvel because there was a male Marvel character at the time going by the name Captain Marvel. Eventually she got the name Captain Marvel, in part because they killed off the male character. But they had the rights to the name Ms. Marvel, so this character was created for that name.

Almost everyone pronounces the character name wrong. "Ms." stands for "miz" not "miss". It's a word that came into popularity during the early days of Woman's Liberation in the 1970s.

The Kamala Khan Ms Marvel (2013 - present) comics are highly recommended and are not spoilery for the show (or vice versa) at all. Her origin story and powers are completely different and the plot of the show is original, but the central characters are the same and it's the characters, particularly Kamala herself, that make Ms Marvel so great.

Don't worry about not having heard of Ms Marvel before, she's fairly new even in comics, having been introduced in 2013. I knew very little about her when this was announced so I watched the trailer and it instantly became the MCU show I was most looking forward to. I have to say, I was not in any way disappointed in it other than that we only get the one season and, so far, the one movie.

Marvel changed her powers in this series. In the comics she had the powers of Stretching. But in this series they changed it to something similar to Green Lantern

The part where the parents give her the costume it broke my heart. So smart!! To make me actually invested and care that early on. I don’t understand why people hated this series. I get it the storyline(s) involving the villains are a bit all over the place and some scenes are a bit childish…BUT SHE IS A CHILD.

I got to be a handler for the aunty here, Anjali Bhimani at a con in my area. Sweetheart of a lady and some great fans. I love this world that the MCU has translated for Kamala. It's charming and Iman is 100% this character.

This was the first acting gig Iman Velani had ever had. So did great in this show. She is an actual Marvel fanatic in real life too. So she was the perfect fit for this role. She would even call out Kevin Feige on conflicting info in the movies vs comics. I watched multiple reactors who were of Muslim faith for this show and they all said they did well to respect the Muslim religion and culture. Much of the production crew and staff along with the writers were Muslim as well, in addition to the writer of the comic.

They actually changed Ms. Marvel powers for some reason. She ''streatches'' her limbs with light, but actually her real powers are very similar to Mr. Fantastic from Fantastic Four. Except she can just streatch her limbs.

I have such mixed feelings about Ms. Marvel. There are some things that I think they did really well in the show, especially the VFX and the writing for some of the characters, and other things that I thought just didn't work, like some of the story elements (I won't mention which because spoilers) that seemed like they had so much potential but ended up falling flat for me. I don't hate it, but I don't love it. I guess I just wanted to like it more than I did. There are definitely things to like about it, though.

I think this is one of the best pilot episodes in the MCU. Unfortunately the series goes off the rails pretty quickly. That said, the girl is a star. More often than not, Marvel nails it in the casting department.
