thanks much. never had done a youtube video before. feedback and appreciation is an inspiration. good things can happen when one finds out how few actually understand how to more effectively track progress and the value it brings. one of millions trying to pay it forward!

Chovendra, glad it was helpful to you and you are welcome. Now the harder step...tracking your projects progress. In my opinion that is what helps separate out the more successful project managers. View my other video on Monthly updating using baselines. other good videos out there too. good luck

May I ask a question? The "setting up a baseline" part of the tutorial ends at 7:36 into the video and the "tracking" tutorial starts after 7:36. In practice, should I save a Project titled "Baseline" at this point in time and leave it there for reference. Then, before I start tracking, should I save a new programme titled 'Baseline 1" and start tracking from there which is elaborated in your other youtube video "Monthly updating".? Am I right in this approach? OR do I track the first tracking programme against the baseline and subsequent programmes are tracked against subsequent baselines?

How to save a baseline as a separate file? I updated schedule several times, but I need that original baseline again. Is there any option to extract that?
@whitebirchman4 жыл бұрын
sorry this took a year. there are multiple baselines that you have available to use as you update the project and you can rename them using your own system. that way you do not override the original baseline. Additionally, what i do is immediately upon opening the project to update is to add the current date on the file name. i know that you collect a number of files but it provides me with a snapshot in history while allowing me to move forward. i say this because sometimes the project changes so dramatically that you may indeed want to reset the main baseline. it is a judgement call if you want to do it. if you think the project might be going south and legal issues could arise, maybe i would avoid resetting the baseline. but if you are adding many more tasks and readjusting predecessors, successors, and durations, etc. it may be worthwhile. Good luck

After watching over a dozens of videos I finally found one that actually explains very well. Just have a question is it really necessary to have "Actual Start/Actual Finish Start" columns? can I just use the Est Start/Finish to keep track of the dates?
@prabhu11076 жыл бұрын
I do have the same question when you have already baseline the project which is estimated at the beginning of the project and agreed, then the next step for me is tracking it with the actual start and end date. If you have the answer please let me know.

Always need actual starting/finishing dates instead of Est. dates.

Do you know how to deal with a baseline where all the dependencies are not set? How does this affect tracking in the future?
