@adriansteven69404 жыл бұрын
This is really useful however, it doesn't work on the summaries when the information is not sequential and overlap. On summaries it just looks at number of days past from the start to the status date and divides it by overall programme length. the does not give a true overall planned % of the tasks below. MS project calculates the %complete for summaries correctly, so there must be a way to replicate this on the summary bars for planned %. Any help greatly appreciated

Hi Niks, Thanks for a great video, It is very helpfull. I just wonder that for example: Actual % complete is 70% and Planned % complete is 60% then we assess the schedule is ahead? If there are some critical tasks in this case were delayed? and free slack and total slack will not impact on total schedule of project. Could you please advise in this case? Thanks a lot.
@niksprojects3 жыл бұрын
Hi @Pham Nam, you are welcome! The actual % is something that we type in manually based on the progress, so if the team is stating that they have completed 70% then yes that particular task is ahead of schedule as the planned % calculate shows that it is only 60%. If you want to see if any critical tasks are delayed then you can filter in the gnatt to show only critical tasks and then look at the planned and actual % complete. Total slack show that how many days you have in slack / as buffer if delayed will not delay the project itself.

Ashleigh Barnwell hi, it’s an issue with MS project copy paste. Just delete all the “d” in the formula where you are getting error and re-type back in and it should work

Hi Niks, why is it my schedule stay shows delays even thou all my task are on schedule and a bit ahead to the schedule and the rest of the tasks are future tasks status? Appreciated if there is explanation for this and how to solve this. Thanks.
@niksprojects4 жыл бұрын
Can you check if you have multiple baselines in the project, if so I am guessing that’s causing it and you may want to use the right baseline in the formula and also check if you are setting the status date under project information tab correctly
@znahseyer86854 жыл бұрын
@@niksprojects Its still me different account only. Btw, Status date are in order, I've clear baseline and re-set baseline for entire project, its still the same. Even though my actual progress same as schedule, but yet its still shows delays, This is almost perfect, if the actual VS schedule are reporting/summarizing correctly....Headache and I cannot used this for report : (

@@niksprojects Hi Niks, I manage to solve my problem already, somehow in your formula for Number2 (elapsed days) I changed the 480 to 600 (I quest 10hrs x 60mins = 600) & your formula works perfectly now and I can used this now in my reporting & presentation. However, I don’t know why it works??, can you explain me why it works and/or beside changing the 480 to 600, is there any other way or other setting I can do if I wish to maintain the 480 so that your formula still works. Thanks very much!!!
@niksprojects4 жыл бұрын
@@znahseyer8685 480 is just converting the 8hr work in to minutes 8hr X 60 minutes = 480 Minutes. So if you have 10 Hr work day you are good to use 600 instead of 480. It's just that the formula needs the amount in Minutes. Thats all.

Great Tutorial!! - I have a question - should or rather, can I do this on a Master Schedule with the Sub Projects already pulled in, or would it be better to complete this on each individual Sub Project Schedule first and then pull those into it in the Master Schedule? Hoping to get your guidance on this!!!

You can do it either way both approach should work

@@niksprojects I have another question please: What is the reason for the Value of 480 in the Elapse days formula?
@SashaRamoutar4 жыл бұрын
Hi, can you confirm please?
@niksprojects4 жыл бұрын
Sasha Ramoutar 480 is converting days in to minutes as that’s how the MS project store info (8 hrs multiplied by 60 = 480)

Hi, why is giving an error on "pjdays"? Val(ProjDurConv(Duration, pjdays))
@niksprojects3 жыл бұрын
See if you have the duration updated for all tasks in your project. Also check the project start date and status date is set, That may be causing the issue if any of those dates are not set.

I think the reason why there is an error after pasting the formula from the webpage is because of the different ascci or character code for the double quotes when rendered on the webpage as opposed to its ascii designation when pasted in MS Proj..just my thought..anyway, for the planned % (number 3), why not incorporate the 4th formula into it?

What does (480) mean in an Elapsed days equation?
@فارسماس5 жыл бұрын
@Niks Projects
@niksprojects5 жыл бұрын
480 is just converting the 8 hr day in to minutes. 8*60=480. This needs to be done because in MS Project the details are stored in Minutes

Thanks Mr. Niks .. I have difficulty understanding the Elapsed day equation Can you explain it ? My Greeting & Respect ☺️
@niksprojects5 жыл бұрын
@@فارسماس Elapsed days means the number of days that has passed from the start date of that particular task. For example if a task is planned to start on Dec 19 Thursday and if today is Dec 20 Friday then the elaspsed days is 1day. This is basically required to find out if we are on time, behind or ahead of schedule.

Hello! Great video, very clear and informative. I am curious if you know of a way to use a date set a number of days in the future for this field? What I am trying to do is create a field that gives a planned % complete 30d ahead of the project status date (and also 60, 90). This is a report being requested by leadership of my institution, and we have many many projects to report on. Thank you for your help!
@niksprojects4 жыл бұрын
I believe you can do that by setting the status date. You can project information and set the status date to 30D, 60d ahead and formula should readjust
@TravisLyons9254 жыл бұрын
@@niksprojects Yes, using the status date is how we've been reporting on expectations for completion. We use Power BI to generate reports and can reference % complete in MS Project Server... But my hope is to have multiple data fields present to have those values auto-generated as dates change. I alone have 50+ ongoing projects, and individually opening each one to get predictive data is very tedious.

You can ignore the error by adding an IF condition, I am not sure if MS Project has function similar to excel like IFERROR or not , you can check in the MS project online documents. I will also take a look and let you know if I find any

Actual % complete is a manual entry that needs to be typed in and not auto calculated
