I PM/Site super for a boutique condo developer, that mostly put up roughly 150 unit buildings 2 per site and a amenities building in the middle. sites are usually around 100,000 ft.² and takes about 18 months start to finish. There is nine full-time staff and we are extremely busy. The sites are rentals and it usually takes about three months to fully occupy a building. Up till 6 months ago I was always doing the site’s scheduling with a pencil and calendar, making it work by a ton of hands on face to face with the trade partners at site, but once I saw one of your MS Project videos and then watched them all, I am flying! My relationships with the trade partners has be amazing now due to the organization the schedule brings me. I manage the schedule now mostly instead of the trades on site. We have a site meeting every Tuesday and that is usually all the time I need to talk with the trades. For the most part we have great trades and they just need a well organized site to shine! Who would of thought. It is so easy for site superintendent to blame all the problems on the trades and not self evaluate their performance, at least that’s what I did. Now that I am running with a great scheduling tool because of you, I have seen my faults. One of the biggest things that help me was when you showed how to schedule change orders a couple of different ways in the schedule. That information made a drastic improvement in keeping the schedule organized on site and it showed my boss, which is the hands on owner of the company, just how the RFI’s and then the site instructions effect the budget and schedule. I could keep writing for days about what your videos have done for me and my family life, just because I’m not so stressed out when I am with my family but I have to go to work now. I guess what I am trying to say is thank you so very much Professor. Thank you 🙏.

First off I love your videos. They have proven to be very helpful as I train my fairly young team about MS Project. I have a random question regarding baselines. If a project was never baselined and it is updated and saved weekly, what would be the best way to do a comparison of the original vs. current? Can I take the information from the original and manually input the baseline dates to achieve the same thing or is there a better way?
@TomStephensontraining
@TomStephensontraining 7 ай бұрын
Hi Paul, sorry for the late reply. Yes you could try copying and pasting original dates into the baseline if the updated file. Be careful that the activities are in the same order and new ones have not been added if you are attempting to cooy and paste columns. Rename the file so you can experiment. Thanks so much for watching!!!!

Thanks for the outstanding Vids Professor! Question. What's the best way to track a worldwide project? Should i duplicate the overall project main headings and tasks and farm out these subprojects to the different country leads? Or am i looking at tracking all on a 10,000+ project line item? Thanks for any advice and best practices. Best regards and Happy Holidays! Bea

In simple terms i would keep separate a master project that you track at a much higher level and if there is an individual issue you can drill down on that separate individual detailed project file. All the best!

Hi Tom. My name is Tony. I subscribe to your channel and find your videos very informative. I’m a Project Superintendent in Pittsburgh and have been doing this for over thirty years. I’ve been a journeyman carpenter for almost forty years. I’ve got a lot of wear and tear and want to start to transition to Project Management. I’ve been self-teaching through books, articles and videos including yours. I thought it could be a good path to get the CAPM through PMI. Do think this is a good start or is there a more construction related certificate or program? I would appreciate your opinion, input and direction. Thank you

Hi Tony, Nice steel town, great football, do you work in residential low rise or commercial, institutional or high rise? PMI is good iwould suggest PMP or they have a micro credential in construction now i believe. I would check ACG associated gEneral contractors of America as they have a number of certifications. If your employer does Lean look at acgs also they have site super training. Hope that helps

Thank you very much professor. This is amazing, I learnt a lot. I have one question, how does baseline finish date changed to 2024 suddenly, I am following along with your file but it doesn't have a 2024 date?
@TomStephensontraining
@TomStephensontraining 11 ай бұрын
Oh maybe something messed up. The baseline date should not change unless I or you changed it. The finish date will of course change if anything on the critical path takes longer. Try with a new download and see if it happens, if it is mine on the video then something must have happened in editing

I watched this 2 times to understand why I could not see the status date...then I realized your vid was made in 2023 and I was inputting the status for 2024😵‍💫🤷‍♂🤣

I’ve done that myself so many times. Zoom out and it’s easier to see if it’s in the wrong spot. One thing for sure when you figure out the problem yourself you’re learning leapfrogs ahead.
