MS880 and MS881 on the bench... Did I find a coil swap for the 881?!?! X-mas miracle???

Just saying but , MS 170 coil has been run succesfully on 881s for over 6 months already . 😎 That said , good job for going out there and actually trying stuff !! Badass !

My first thought when you were talking about the coil not working was resistance in the circuit - the coil may be made to work within certain resistance parameters. Could be an inline resistor, a series of them, parallel circuits, or just the length and type of wire. If you get a multimeter you can learn a lot just from being thorough and taking notes and comparing differences. I'm not an electronics wizard but I know some stuff. Merry Christmas!

im just guessing here but with mtronic and coils you probly have to not only switch the coil but other mtronic parts as well too. i havent looked to much into it but the way it sounds is that some how certian parts might talk to each other. and on a fourm they were speculating that the mtronic goes off of rpms to tune the saw, so if they can read what the coil is sending than its not going to work. since i havent torn into an mtronic anything. do the mtronic coils have any more wires than the non mtronic coils? where does the carb/throttle solenoid wires go? you know what im not going to crack the code anytime soon but it sounds like i should look into the mtronic chainsaw diagrams. anyways merry christmas, dude look at how far you have come this year! i cant wait to see the new year and all the major break throughs you are going to make on another note, putting a electric motor on the turbo would be wild, that way you could get more boost without having to rely on just the nos to spool. you already have a battery pack, what voltage is the battery pack you put on that thing? you could use a motor that we use for model air planes. you might have to add another bigger batter pack but they definatly make a electric motor that ould spin that turbo like its never been span!!!! they make electric motors that will spin an 20 inch prop 10k rpm, you wouldnt need one any where that close but i was just saying the the possibility is out there and its not that expensive you would just have to make a mount to have the motor either direct dive or you could have it use a pully to spin the compressor. anyways good luck i cant wait to see what the new year brings. !!!GODSPEED!!!

Yeah I've actually done mtronic swaps before on a 441 and a few 661s... but the 881 is an adjustable carb it's a dual magnet flywheel but it's not mtronic

​@@davepass1344 hes exactly right... 361 coil is the best for the 880...i have tried a few and 361 is the perfect balance... but i highly recommend tuning to 12.5k they run the best tuned that way

the 881 i am definitely impressed with... 661 are not bad... but the standard carb non mtronic 661s bounce off the rev limiter so bad it drives you nuts... so you gotta constantly lean on it and keep it bogged down or slam against the limiter like a 4 cylinder Toyota pinned to the floor lol

I run 500i’s 661’ s a an ageing 241 for years and no issues however, 661’s now have bark box’s and all 500i have bark boxes and 500i all have suspension kits. 661’s run 42”bars 500i run 36” bars and 20” sometimes. Yes, I would love to tune all our saws but everything is “Not Available “ so staying with basic options atm plus postage is horrendous!
