I read it slowly to absorb his visuals-how can you not be 'wordy'? This is how del Torro should do his film, showing the raational and the horrific in layers.

My favorite, too. There is one instance that I never have forgotten. " ... meanwhile, Mac Mactigh, paebody, etc. Working like beavers prepared the other planes for flight despite the unaccountable juggling of their operative mechanism..." I’ll never understand why this story has not been adapted to the big screen. This one and the “Shadow that fell over Innsmouth” are my favorites.

Apparently there was a movie adaptation of the story in the works, but it didn't happen because the Hollywood studio demanded a love story and happy ending included in it, neither of which fit in Lovecraft's literature.

"They were men!" is epic Lovecraft. I've been an HPL fan for fifty+ years and this has always been my favorite tale of cosmic horror. MSA 21 has breathed new life into this wonderful story and I applaud their efforts. Obviously a labor of love.

I'm relieved there is no movie: What would 2021 Hollywood do? Danforth and Gedney would be race/gender swapped into a strong Black Lesbian couple. Lake would be rewritten as a bumbling, ineffectual nerd whose only accomplishments are from listening to a sassy independent female. The Shoggoth-Elder Thing War would be re-worked into a crude metaphor for slavery, Jim Crow, and the Civil War, with the colonizing, scientific, Elder Things oppressing the bodies of brave multi-gendered Shoggothoi and their Natural Ways of Knowing. Oh, and it would all end with an exciting CGI enchanced battle straight out of Avengers Endgame.

Oooooooh so waiting for this,. I will savor this though until tonight, with the lights out and max volume. SPOILER/EDIT: So why did the Shoggoth attacked the remaining awakened Old Ones? Or did at some point the Shoggoth again made war on the Old Ones while they where weak and retreating deep under the city, devouring them?

The artwork is phenomenal. And the storyline- a transition from being subtle, to a heightened climax culminating in a mad dash and abandoning of a place once thought dead, and later discovering that both races had survived epochs of time, and were unfriendly to intrusions. My favorite factor was the architectural aspect of the story, and that the architects were not men, or even remotely human. But men of a different kindred, cast into a different mold, and far more intelligent ( weapons of molecular disturbance) energy weapons, etc.the whole story as sci fi horror is definitely a masterpiece.

I got literal chills at the ending. So brilliant. One of my favorite Lovecraft stories, and this video series adapts it so well. Thank you for the great work you put into this. Also I'm definitely going to buy Tanabe's manga, which I haven't yet acquired (I do have his version of The Call of Cthulhu, which is excellent, but not yet The Mountains of Madness).

I was shaking at 20:00-22:00. The viewer and the characters experiencing the same emotions at the same time. Oh to be those men on that mountain top that day, to look out upon the vastness and remoteness of the valley of our creators. I’d have fallen to my knees and weeped.
