wait ok so the stems will be actual cylinders and the leaves will be alpha planes in these cases? like a combo of the methods
@hypersonicmonkeybrains34183 жыл бұрын
You say to use the green background on the texture matching the leaf color so if you go out of the edges on the UV mapping it wont look bad. But what about cutting out the background and making it transparent alpha? will that be just as good an option?
@suzannah9913 жыл бұрын
I'm wondering this too.

This is what I do when it doesn't map right in Lumion. I go in and cutout the baground and resave the texture images as png then reassign in the material editor. Works great, except if you position the camera under the plant looking up- then the leaves disappear since it's just a one sided, front-facing png.

I preffer to use my scanner, so I can get massive dpi if I need it and no highlights/shading from sun light. ;)
@michno43237 жыл бұрын
Woudent the unnatural look of the scanner light. kinda ruin the pictures ? or is that fixable in post
@RREDesigns7 жыл бұрын
Does this look unnatural to you? (i.xomf.com/bwfxb.png) In any case, lighting should always come from your scene lights, that's why we use specularity maps. Taking a photograph captures the highligths from the sun at the moment of the photo shooting, so that texture can be useless for some scenes, like night time scenes.
@martinn56266 жыл бұрын
RRE Designs yeah but you should also never use alphas soo
@josephbrandenburg43736 жыл бұрын
I use a scanner most of the time, but if the leaf won't lie perfectly flat, then parts will be too blurry or too sharp. I think the scanner gets a better focus than my camera, because my hands are so shaky.

Hello I would like to ask a question How efficient is this method? isnt this a little bit too expensive? Im looking for ways to make foliage for games thx
@a-defmi-def89112 жыл бұрын
This method is the same for gamedev, but you'll need to decrease the texture resolution and not make leaves so detailed. Yes I'm replying to a 3 year old comment.
@flyingjudgement2 жыл бұрын
@@a-defmi-def8911 Appreciate it thank you I ended up making this way some alien foliage, I put a bunch of leaves in a pattern, than toke a picture and I used that bundle with a simpler mesh. It was quiet overkill to render every leave but super usefull to start something non-existent. Thanks again.
@a-defmi-def89112 жыл бұрын
@@flyingjudgement you're welcome! Also, about the textures: when you model background plants you sometimes don't even need any textures. Just put a gradient and some noise/distortion and from distance it'll look good! This method is mainly used for leaves for trees and lush vegetation

I'm guessing they either did softbody physics or mesh deform (with softbody physics on the deform object).

@UnFyKilianZ5 жыл бұрын
@@CrackedTubeGamer yeah you can even find leaves between rocks or small grass. There must be atleast one tree ina city :p if not I dont want to live there hahah
@vd81894 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I wanna make summer roses, but I live in the place where are no roses and winter for 9 months lol feel you bro..
@happysmash272 жыл бұрын
@@CrackedTubeGamer It would be urban places that have this problem, not rural, as well as places in the desert. I live in Los Angeles, which is a bit of both but not too extreme. But I would imagine that it would be a lot harder somewhere like Phoenix Arizona which is both urban and has even less green plants than Los Angeles. It is also a problem in summer when everything is brown and dead. Say I want to take pictures of nice green tall grass, where would I do that? Most of the grass around here is on lawns and often dried out because it is very hot and dry. One tree that I recently realised actually _is_ everywhere that I want to make a 3D model of is palm trees (I thought it would be hard to find them but there are literally over a dozen on my block alone). There is a major problem with this though: They are too high to easily take a picture of and it is fairly rare to find a palm leaf on the ground that is still living. There are a few dead ones and small ones good for reference but taking an actual texture for an image is a challenge.
