A/T's in the 777 can be a little wonky at times, even in benign weather conditions. This is why its important to disarm them when landing in gusting conditions, because the system does have greater limitations in its responsiveness than let's say an airbus because the levers are mechanically manipulated rather than completely digitally like an airbus system. The high thrust with the flaps fully extended slopes a component of that thrust downward, creating a thrust vectoring effect. That's why your sink rate decreased disproportionately to the amount of airspeed increased, but proportionate to the amount of power being added. Great go around 🙂

That does make a lot of sense, right ! Thanks for the explanation, i'll do it all manually from now on except in perfect conditions :)

Check your settings on the FMC, I think your thrust levers are set to override and can get to some funny situations.

I’ll try this out been floating a lot when leaving the AT on

I had a similar thing flying into LEBL on the ILS, it kept overthrusting, an then chasing the diamonds up n down, so i just ended up hand flying it, was a pain though

You are right. The 737 also tends to do the same, but is less noticeable. PMDG auto thrust PID needs more work. Flybywire have really nailed that one.

When AP comes off, let AT also come off. You control the thrust setting so that the plane isn't so lagged behind by the inputs, It takes a while for the spool up if you where to pitch up and visversa when you pitch down the throttles takes forever to go to idles and in between that you have accelerated so much rather than retarding the throttles just before the pitch down

That is correct for most planes, the 777 however is supposed to be flown down to touchdown with AT engaged, as stated in the Boeing manual. It is operator dependent how it's done IRL right now, but especially up to the Emirates Crash it was the usual SOP at most airlines to leave it engaged. So it would have been nice to do it the way Boeing intended - but not possible right now as you can see, even in slight gusts

@@managed9348 Nah you're doing nothing wrong, AT just behaves a bit excessive at the moment. Fly it manually until they fix it, nothing we can do rn :)
