The sound of those engines gives me goosebumps in the beginning of the video. Thanks for the info about the old-fashioned AP. I love it compared to the Garmin 750. Even though, the Garmin is a fantastic product, I love tinkering with knobs and switches.

It’s definitely one of my favorite aircraft. I flew the 750 to begin with but as you said, I also prefer the knobs and switches!

Thanks so much for this tutorial on the AP altitude function. Just got this beautiful plane and just could not work out initially (other than Alt hold) ascent, descend function. Noted the AP/Pitch controls on peditstall but found your video that has clearly explained everything. Great presentation, cheers 👍🤠

Thanks for your great video which I found very useful because it features the same GNS530 (and instrument layout) as on my XBox version of the C414. Before watching I was having a problem following the GPS course as I thought because the green NAV1 light on the Mode Selector was illuminated, NAV was armed. I hadn’t realised that you need to press the NAV button as well as being in GPS mode!

I still forget to sometimes swap it over at the beginning and wonder why it’s not working!

Great demo! Thank you! That rapidfire decent profile reminds me I need to see if I can map that pitch wheel to a hat switch... to at least make the duck & peep scenarios less intrusive.

@@sprocketsimulations I just ran a test flight and got it to work by mapping AUTOPILOT > Increase AP Pitch Hold Reference and Decrease AP Pitch Hold Reference to a hat switch. The pitch dial on the pedestal does not animate when using the mapped setup, but it definitely controls autopilot pitch/vertical speed.

@@BeltOfVenus great! I actually use a Logitech Multi Panel that you can select vertical speed and altitude but it doesn’t animate as well. I like to use the mouse in the videos as I think it helps explain the functionality for people. But good to know there is a key bind that can be done! Thanks for the info!

Thx. Yeah--ATC's always been screwed-up (same for all previous versions of MSFS as well as X-Plane). They need to pay more attention to operational issues than World Updates--uber annoying (and it's not always practical/desirable to go the VATSIM route)! Agreed that the AP for the GNS530-equipped version is not at all intuitive (I'd retrofit it with an S-Tec--at least something from this millennium), but things happen fast on this approach, which is why I'd prefer to hand-fly it anyway, but thanks for sharing the process. Those "clickers" on the alt alert/preset and xpndr are nicely retro, but a bit futzy to use--again, I'd replace them with more modern gear (I know--pop for the payware avionics). I do have a soft spot for steam gauges (having learned on them before GPS even existed), but there are good reasons for at least partially "glassifying" classic planes like this. IMO, the C414A (and 421) are among the most beautiful aircraft ever produced (even better with tuna tanks) and this is probably my favorite MSFS a/c to fly. Also, a bit slow on short final there--Vref's 96 KIAS on a C414.

Should always align the HSI with your GPS dtk, in case of failure of the AP, and also for monitoring. more of a real life issue, but I have had a Seneca incorrectly intercept a poorly shielded ILS backcourse while intercepting from the backside of an approach and kick on the armed approach mode and the AC tried to descend and turn, if I wasn't aware of my position and track the plane would have continued to track incorrectly

Instead of using the MSFS ATC, I suggest you try going on VATSIM or IVAO. It's a much better experience. Although you can do RNAV approaches like shown on this video, I'm not sure if this plane would be allowed to perform RNAV approaches in real life since it doesn't have proper a proper VNAV system (it has some but it's very very basic).

Thanks for the comment! I see VATSIM but haven’t checked out IVAO. Such a cool approach.

Thank you for the perfect video! Whenever I take off on my xbox x, the plane banks to the right. I used to power both engines evenly but I think the right engine pulls more then the left. Can you help me?

Thanks for watching. This can be down to a few things. Wind is usually the biggest factor. But check to make sure both the power, props, and mixture are equal on both sides. Also check your controller to make sure there is a little dead zone in the settings. You are never going to have it stay completely level when flying manually. Small adjustments will always need to be made.

great video, congratulations. I wanted to ask you if you would recommend buying this plane. Have you got to try it for a long time? It has good reviews around. Thank you

I have done some really fun longer flights with it and think it is definitely worth buying. I now have also purchased the full GNS750 and a Navigraph subscription and it makes using the non GNS530 version super fancy if you want to go that route as well.
