In today’s video I will be showcasing some stress tests using the different anti-aliasing options with all settings pushed to the max in Microsoft Flight Simulator VR!

The reason for doing these demos is to show the different results I am getting in VR using Sim Update 10 Beta and my HP Reverb G2 headset. I am using Windows 10 with a 3080 GPU and an i9-10900K processor with 64GB of RAM.
For the testing I chose to fly over Istanbul in Turkey since it is not a paid add-on, as I like to run the demos flying over default terrain and cities. I didn’t fly particularly low, however I made sure to get a balance of built up areas along with some water and coastal details. I feel this was a good platform to showcase the tests.

Finally after 2 years we have something to look forward for in VR. DLSS is a game changer as I always believe since modern game are very graphic demanding. I fly commercial most of the time and with the pmdg 737 is have never been this smooth before and this is a beta! Thanks again Chris

can you please use 3thparty aircrafts when doing stresstests? The default aircrafts runs overall very smooth anyways. Would been nice to see the fenix a320 or the pmdg 737

They run similar to Sim update 9. Though depending on your hardware DLSS gives you a big fps boost. You should get simular results if you use a Intel cpu and a nvidia gpu.

As with other titles supporting DLSS too, the best way to use it is together with supersampling the screen resolution. This way, you get a slight performance bump as well as a clarity boost. Using it at default resolution will result in a massive performance gain but also blurrier image, which is not desirable. When achieving the same clarity (note: not same resolution, usually at 120% supersampling) compared to TAA, it offers perhaps 15% free performance.

Per your endorsement, I recently installed the SU10 Beta release just so I could give DLSS a try and experience its performance. Pre SU10 Beta I was able to run my G2, 3080 ti, 10700 @ 4.9, 32 GB DDR4 4000 cas 16 at a very smooth frame limited 44 fps using FSR 70% in OXR TK. With SU10 Beta and DLSS Quality, using 100% renderscale everywhere, OXR TK disabled, I'm seeing the same and maybe a bit better FPS using the same overall settings, but the image quality is GREATLY IMPROVED everywhere! No more ground terrain shimmering (YAY) and the cockpit instrument readouts are noticeably clearer (super YAY). These two issues have been my bane for months, and now they're effectively solved. Looks to me AMD FidelityFX Sharpening is only needed for those that can't use DLSS. With DLSS it seems to adds a completely unneeded level of sharping, so I disabled it by setting it to 0 while reenabling the in-game sharping. IMO without it everything looks far more realistic without sacrificing any clarity. Much thanks for the SU10 Beta recommendation, now back to flying.

Interesting. So much for the theory espoused by some on the MFFS forum that the 3080 cannot benefit from DLSS. This video says it can with all the setting cranked up

Fantastic blues riffs! I tried DLSS on my Quest 2 but found that the graphic quality/clarity, especially in the cockpit, was just too low. I've gone back to TAA but will keep an eye on DLSS in future releases.

Thanks for doing this. I mostly fly airliners these days so over the weekend I cranked up my VR settings in SU10. Terrain looks so good! I'm running a 3090, but I don't think my performance is all that great. One of the annoying things I notice is that I can't see the top beacon light in the Fenix A320 when in external camera view. Top of the fuselage looks really washed out. I wasn't using the OPEN XR add on and honestly, I didn't notice any performance hit or visual degradation. I've only got 32GB of RAM. Wondering if upping it to 64 would improve anything. SU10 is pretty amazing all around. Clouds and terrain seem much more realistic now.

Great video Chris. I was wondering something. How is the shimmering with shadows on trees now in the beta? Did it improve as well with the DLSS ? PS: I figured out why I could not switch to manual gears the other day. I had the game mode on casual and then you don’t have that setting LOL

I think the killer is Clouds set at ultra. On high you would get quite differing fps. Ultra clouds kill my fps from 45 to 20.

I was unlucky. My oculus quest 2 got the yellow screen and I couldn't use my VR device. I had to reinstall the whole game to get back to normal and so, I will wait for the final update.

I am loving the SU10 Beta. It took a few days of testing to get things right, but it's been worth the effort. I'm using a Quest 2, and have the render resolution maxed out (in the Oculus app) to 5408 x 2736, which makes the overall image absolutely stunning. I actually installed a USB 3.2 Gen2 expansion card so that I'd have enough headroom in terms of the data transfer rate. I'm still using foveated rendering in OpenXR, and most of my in-game settings are set to ultra or high. I'm getting 42-48 fps flying low over Denver, and 50+ when away from photogrammetry scenery. If Asobo could use TAA for the cockpit only, and DLSS for the scenery, it would be about perfect. But I don't know if that's even possible. 3080ti FTW3, Ryzen 7 5800X3D, 32G DDR4 @3200, Oculus Quest 2, OpenXR Toolkit

@@RTRT-de8vz Sure thing. Not much to cover for the app. Go to Devices, click on the large "Quest 2 and Touch" item, scroll down and click on Graphics Preferences. Un-select the Automatic option, set Refresh Rate to 72Hz, and adjust the Render Resolution slider to the right. You may not be able to max it out without causing visual problems if you're using a USB 3.0 port. You'll also need to set the Encode Bitrate in the Oculus Debug Tool to no less than 500 (mine is set to 999). Hope this helps!

@@RTRT-de8vz no problem! To set a bitrate higher than 500 in the debug tool, you have to copy-paste the number in. It won't let you just type it in. I just bumped mine up to 9999, lol

I've been playing MSG's last 2 years in Vr and I think still not ready to play it well.. I will wait for rtx40 to see if gets better but what I can see the fps only will increase 5fps. I guess msfs is to play very well in Vr around 2025

Is the brightness better in SU10 ? I find the brightness, even with Open XR Toolkit "Sunglasses" washes out too much of the scenery, especially the runways.

DLSS definitely has given me a boost. I only run a 3060Ti though. I have notice when running the King Air and some others, the flight panels turn of about 2 minutes after take off. Has anyone else experienced this?

same thing happened to me during VR sessions. Nailed the issue down to an installed Garmin Screen add-on. Disabled the Add-on and the screens stay on now. booyahh😁

Dlss wont help with Terrain LOD though. Terrain LOD and Traffic settings only hit your cpu

WTF.. I must Have really messed up a setting somewhere.. 3080ti R9 3900x 64GB ram, and even on the lowest settings it's totally unplayable in VR (and yes I am adjusting the settings in VR_Mode)... I have a quest 2 and I'm using a link cable... I thought it must be the cable, but that is on 3Gb Per second (so it says after a test) and DCS world runs fine on it, IL2 runs fine, Hitman 3 = Fine, Skyrim = fine, Kayak = fine. I've tried Open XR, DLSS, TAA ... Move my head and OMG nightmare and the graphics are a nightmare too. If anyone has any ideas I'll try them, but I've searched all the problems and nothing so far.... If you can fix my issue.. I shit you not I'll buy you a few drinks, just give me your paypal

Mine is so much smoother with DLSS but after SU10 Beta, it'll CTD when loading a flight from an airport. If I select a flight departing from a landmark, i.e. the flight starts in the air, it loads fine. I have an RTX 3060 TI
