Yes, I've bought right after release, but I had a altimeter issue with Newsky. Later on I flew it but switched quickly to B77. Recently came back to it and I'm trying to master the landing. Last 3 flights I did great on fully manual visual approach.

gonna cliff note this in no particular order: 1. Dial a flap is set during the after take off flow (Spoilers disarmed, auto brake off, dial a flap 15 degrees then run the after take off checklist). 2. I guess from the other video, takeoff - count 3 Mississippi slowly pulling the nose up through about 10 degrees. after positive rate then pull up to the flight director. Passing 400' select PROF. if your FMS is set properly with a SID, the speeds will be protected with prof. 3. Runway turn off lights: they are at 18k up and down not 10k. 4. in general Slats on downwind when slowing past 220-210 depending on weight, Flaps 15 on base. all the way to Flaps 28 if heavy. 5. Put gear down before selecting Flaps 35. the landing gear warning is because there is a lockout preventing the flaps beyond 28 unless the gear is down. typical call is "Flaps 28, gear down, before landing checklist". Once gear is "Down, In, and 4 green" then flaps 35. (then to 50 if needed). That configuration should happen no later than 2000' AGL on the glideslope so you are configured by 1000'. 6. Flare height.... so this video the weight is in KG, the only 3 remaining operators manage the MD in lbs and this next rule of thumb works in LBS. Whatever your landing weight is in lbs, (first 2 numbers (ish)) is your flare height. so 461000 lbs - approx 46', 400000 lbs - 40 '. to be blunt anything over 450,000 lbs land flaps 50 to reduce your vertical descent, unless you are empty, never wait past 40' to start the flare. Flaps 35 should be 6 degrees nose attitude. Flaps 50 - 5 degrees. 7. Vectoring onto the approach - assuming the software is like real world. While in heading mode, go direct to the last waypoint on the ILS approach then clear the turn point (TP), the MFD should then display an extended centerline to help you intercept. 8. Once mains touch down, hold the nose attitude for a good 4 count. the MD always heaves on its mains and can go back a foot or two in the air before settling for a second time. after holding then gently fly the nose to the ground. Overall a decent video for the MD. Oh and we type the ILS identifier in not the freq / heading. generally the MD won't show that from the FMS until closer to downwind. not sure how this software does it but maybe wait until base before hard tuning it to see it if auto tunes.

That LSAS got you in on final approach! I still have fond memories of the PMDG MD11 in FS9 using 2D panels, the system complexity really blew me away! This was before i got comfortable with the Boeing philosophy of doing things. I'd wait till the extended package releases because i wish this to be a proper study level sim.

Are you using right, left, or scroll click (or something else) on the mouse to manually select the speed? Seems that one of those should work. Thanks in advance.

In your first video you showed how you set up the 3rd engine to the throttle. How did you bind the 3rd reverser? Does it use the same values(throttle decrease/throttle cut) as other planes do? I've tried binding it in the same fashion as the engines. Reversers 1& 3 to one and reversers 2 to the other, but the 3rd reverser knobs don't seem to move

How can I start the descent earlier than TOD if instructed by ATC? I normally just perform a VS descent but this airplane currently doesn’t have the level off indicator showing where the airplane will be when the selected altitude is reached.

@ right, it’s just difficult in this airplane because the typical arc or arrow doesn’t exist that shows where I will be at the end of the selected descent. So I’m just curious if there’s a way to let the FMC still manage the descent on demand. Maybe I’m not making sense

@ for instance, if ATC tells me to descend and cross X waypoint at X altitude, it’s a little bit difficult when there’s no indicator so I can dial in my vertical speed properly hit that altitude restriction, so I’m wondering if I can have the FMC do that when I tell it to.

When do you disengage the autothrust? I could have missed this, but I feel it is important. Thank you.
@jumpjet777
@jumpjet777 7 ай бұрын
He didn't. He disengaged the autopilot to hand fly it the last few hundred feet, but the autothrottle remains on managing the speed (160 kts). When the aircraft touches down there are weight switches on the wheels/undercarriage. So when the weight of the aircraft is on the wheels the auto thrust is automatically disconnected.

Is auto throttle supposed to disengage on touchdown? lol cause' mine sure as hell didn't! ..and one looks very silly trying to stop an fully loaded MD-11 when the throttle tries to maintain approach speed as our wheels are rolling! Seems like in full Autoland mode the AT will disengage, but that didn't seem to happen when I hand flew it on approach. Also when you disengage AP, why does that damn "autopilot" aural warning keep sounding and how do you shut it off?

It’s surprising why pilots don’t always choose the maximum flap angle when landing. This gives a lower landing speed and therefore a shorter braking distance.
@BritishAvgeek
@BritishAvgeek 2 ай бұрын
@@Skipper441 some airports like Heathrow for example use HIRO - high intensity runway operations. Effectively you try to be on the runway in as short a time as possible so try to calculate what the best config is to vacate on a high speed exit as quickly and smoothly as possible

@@DrHenrik So curious, what about it do you find “quirky” that equals a bad design. I’d argue a lot is unique, but in actuality, a lot of those things are pretty awesome in real life. I work with a ton of guys who’ve flown both, and pretty much every one loves the MD, for those unique features Boeings don’t have.
@DrHenrik
@DrHenrik 6 ай бұрын
@@bradskis81 It was a quote from the video however I get that many pilots love the plane exactly for the reasons it is rather dangerous in comparison. For instance the high landing speed necessitated by the smaller horizontal stabilizers. Than its the simlple fact that macdonnal douglas did exactly what boing does now, saving by compromising the design (albeit not as bad as the DC-10 with its cargo doors). I get that its fun to fly but not exactly the most secure option. However the third engine gives a nice kick I admit
