Great instructions but going to a client PC to run a gpupdate doesn't make sense! Is there a way to force this in the background without an IT admin going in person to run the group policy update?

Group Policy will automatically update on client computer in background, but to show you the result quickly I have ran the gpupdate /force command on client. By default, Group Policy settings is updated in the background every 90 minutes, with a random offset of 0 to 30 minutes.

Not PPT but you can use wallpaper slide as a wallpaper. If you want to use group policy for that you need to created wallpaper theme of your all the wallpaper and then deploy it to clients using group policy.

There is no difference in it. You can use any method of your choice. Creating GPO first under "Group Policy Objects" is best practice. But wanted to show the second method, thats why directly created GPO under domain.

You can create a PowerShell which download the custom image from the internet and modify the registry to set that image as a desktop wallpaper.

Not local file, the image file should be placed under shared folder. Otherwise client will look for file under its computers local location.

Hi, When a user is connected to domain network and log's in to his/she laptop, he/she receives wallpaper from the server and everything is fine but if the same user is disconnected from the domain network after logging into the laptop he/she gets black wallpaper screen, AD Server - Windows 2019 Standard Affected Users - Windows 10 Pro(latest build) and Windows 11. Observations : 1) Cached wallpaper file is still available in below location of user appdata in windows 10 and 11 system even if the user is not connected to domain network(verified after logging in), %AppData%\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\TranscodedWallpaper 2) But windows 7 users gets wallpaper in their laptop even if they are disconnected from the domain network (Tested) My Questions : 1) Why windows 10 or 11 doesn't use the same wallpaper which was previous received from Domain Controller which is still available in users appdata if the laptop is disconnected from domain network.

I have faced same problem in past and frankly speaking I couldn't find the solution for the same. I checked everything and even tried to change few reg entries too. The last solution we have applied is push the wallpaper locally and then set the wallpaper path using regedit. We can use group policy preferences to do so.

Generally in Domain environment we used roaming profile, if users are login on different or random computer daily. With the help of roaming profile user will get their profile data on the computer where they are log on. Profile data will also sync with the share folder. If you have this kind of requirement then use roaming profile. To create user in Domain environment: Open Active Directory Users and Computer Snap-in --> Right click on Users container and select new --> User --> Specify the username and password details and click on OK. TO create user on workgroup server: Open run menu --> Type compmgmt.msc --> Local Users and Group --> Users --> Right click on Users and select new user --> Specify the username and password details and click on OK.

I'm trying to set this to a specific group of users and unfortunately it just wont apply :( Can you apply this policy to a specific group of users? For example: Create OU called "Finance". Then in that OU create a group called "Finance Wallpaper", add employees from finance department into that group. Then, Create Desktop Wallpaper Group policy directly on that OU? And then do that for other departments too?

You have store those users under that OU. You can use group for filtering purpose. For example: You have created OU called "Finance", You have created five users name "finance1" to "finance5" under the OU "Finance". You have created group name "finance-group". Add users "finance1", "finance2" and "finance3" to that group as a group member. Create and link wallpaper GPO to "Finance" OU. Result: The GPO will apply on all five users even if they are not part of that group ""finance-group". If you just want to apply the GPO to member of "finance-group" then you need to change the security filtering settings in GPO. or you can use group policy preferences. Search for Group Policy Security Filtering and Group Policy Preferences video on my channel.

Yes we can deploy slideshow wallpaper using GPO using theme option. So first we need to create a theme of all wallpapers which we want to include in slideshow. Deploy the theme using GPO. Tested with Windows 7 but not tested with newer version of OS.
