Ended up with the Alienware M17 r4 and very happy. Was a ge75 owner (2080) and it was a solid machine but wanted something that could do power delivery on USB c. The Alienware can send 65w over usb c which is awesome for anybody who travels and doesn’t have power nearby. With that and optimus I have 8 hours battery life or more. My time spy scores are slightly more and 13200+ with gpu overclock. In 10 years of owning laptops ive never added ram or Wi-Fi changes. Only disk drives. I got this same exact model one month ago and it's a beast. Honestly I disagree about the screen, it's fantastic and you really make good use of the 300Hz refresh rate in FHD, also no tearing at all despite not being a GSync screen. I wanted high framerates and ray tracing, a QHD resolution on a 17 inches screen feels like a waste of computational power imo, you'd end up having to make compromises in ray tracing or worse, playing under the screen native resolution. People can always connect it to an external monitor to enjoy QHD or 4k, and 24 or 30 inches screens make a lot more sense for these resolutions. The cpu runs toasty but it's Intel, no biggie
@mobiletechreview3 жыл бұрын
QHD really isn't much of a performance drag the way 4K is. And at 17", the image is noticeably sharper at 1440p. I've really been enjoying gaming (and general use) on the ASUS Zephyrus G15 I reviewed a few weeks back- nice 1440p screen and frame rates and quality settings aren't suffering on that machine (great Ryzen CPU but lower wattage RTX 3070).

Seems like the late arrival to the laptop game this year, Lenovo, aims to address such requests as apparently it has offerings with Ryzen Zen3 CPUs combined with high power (aka "maxP") RTX 30X0 dGPUs and 16" WQHD 16:10 165Hz screens... Pity they are not yet available worldwide, currently I've only seen mentions from a few Russian sites, Singapore, Taiwan and China... whilst earlier Lenovo mentioned something like June for target worldwide release date. I guess they're missing now and will miss even more then if they release their product stacks so late into this year, as that's about the period some leaks and Intel statements point to for H45 Tiger Lakes finally reaching market. Perhaps they're waiting for a double release - Legion 5/5Pro/7 with Zen3 and Legion 5i/5iPro/7i with high TDP TigerLake... Whatever happens, those next gen Legions are probably the ones that will take clients from MSI GE76, Asus G15/17 Strix, Gigabyte Aorus/Aero 15(G/P)/17G prospective buyers groups due to combining almost everything a laptop needs and their userbase wants ;) At least till either Tiger Lake H45 hits the market or AMD finally becomes capable of releasing RDNA2 mobile parts to trade blows with a year long market ownership by Nvidia...
