Is there a particular reason you didn't apply liquid metal to the GPU? I have a GP63 and now that my warranty is over, i've been toying with the idea of doing liquid metal. Otherwise a great video! I know you said it runs cool, but is there any downside to doing it to the GPU as well?

hy, i have a msi laptop GF63 thin , I want to add liquid metal, but the base CPU heatsink is copper (there is no problem putting liquid metal), but the GPU base heatsink has the color of aluminum, the problem is that aluminum does not you can put liquid metal but instead in nickel and silver if you can(I have read that the heatsink can be made of nickel or silver as well and you can put liquid metal there), the problem is how to identify if it is silver, nickel or aluminum so I know whether to apply liquid metal or not. I don't know if you knew how to answer me about it, thanks!

This is the first time I've seen someone put thermal paste on the vrm. I'm having an issue with my laptops vrm, I used thermal pads but they're not working at all. They also seem to be creating a small gap so that the heat sink isn't clampled on the GPU. My CPU paste is spreading whereas the GPU paste isn't. I think the paste is doing its job, but it's feeling like I need to remove the 0.5 mm pads I used, and just use my thermal paste. What say you?

Thanks for the vid, I've got a gp63 with i7 8750h and 1070, was trying to play FarCry 5 yesterday, hit 96 degrees at times. The CPU is undervolted -175 and the short term boost has been turned down to 45w, the thermal compound is gelid extreme and I'm using a cooling pad too. Considering liquid metal too cause nothing else helps.

Great job 👍 I repasted my GS75 with liquid metal and the cpu temps went from 92 to 76, gpu only dropped 2-3 °C though but it was already very low at the low 70s to begin with :) Very satisfied overall I prefer using foam dams instead of tape though because it seals the entire die so its safe from spilling out the other side too. It also supposedly reduces the exposure to air and lengthens the operational life of the liquid metal but I've not experienced it myself yet.
@Seanweekhaizhen
@Seanweekhaizhen 5 жыл бұрын
@Mr Krabs Most definitely. Being liquid metal, it is conductive by nature and so if it spills onto the motherboard it will short out components and render the whole laptop useless. So do take care not to apply too much. Just a very thin layer will do. If you can apply just the right amount the cohesive nature of the liquid metal will hold itself together but that's very hard to get right. Thats why I used foam dams.
@Seanweekhaizhen
@Seanweekhaizhen 5 жыл бұрын
@Mr Krabs Yes, Kryonaut is a non conducting paste so it is much safer to use. Not to mention much easier to apply. Just follow how Bob did it and you'll be fine.

I always see people commenting about super 33+ tape, I’ve liquid metal pasted an Asus g701vi and aorus x7 v8, left it sideways in my backpack and transported it around and never had any issues, to be quite frank it seems to be a valid application so long as you don’t put too much LM. I comment on ownordisowns videos too, enjoy both of your reviews, most recent laptop is a triton 500 but I’m returning it as it had a defect in the paste job and one of the speakers, got an MSI gs65 stealth with RTX 2080 and 32gb ram and a 1tb ssd from XoticPC for 2300 usd, so I’ll probably liquid metal it if I feel it’s thermal throttling after an undervolt. TLDR; everyone has an opinion on everything doesn’t mean it’s right, keep up the good content.

well im now a year past ownership and am facing the choice of opening it up and upgrading the 16gb to 32gb of faster ram, adding a tb sata ssd, and a 3.4gb/s gen3 drive....among the dire need of a high quality aftermarket re-pasting. Since im still hitting 86-88 in fallen order, and 90+ in farcry 5 and newdawn maxed while undervolted even though frame rate is amazing ive broken 100fps in both. So the hardware itself is still worth its capability in 1080p, or as a lan rig....even though those b550 itx boards with wifi6 and the better VRM's....are looking insane these days with a r9.....and a beefy gpu....im leaning this direction now when i consider concepts like 2-3000$ laptop......and the 4600h 1650 equipped nitro5.......strikes me more as a viable "laptop" for work on the go etc......that can "game".....too.....i really wish there were a few 1650ti-maxq 4600h low profile options with duel channel lpddr

@@BobOfAllTrades Tape+foam dam on both cpu and gpu. I have both 33+ and 88 tape. I will see which fits better the foam compresses to nothing, so I just need to check die clearance from what I understand. It’s probably not good for temps of the components next to the die but I guess I will have to cover them all up with tape. I think only the gpu has these, the cpu just has test points. Notebookreviews steered me away from using nail polish, members seem to think a “sealed” copper heatsink interface reduces oxidation. I haven’t looked up the reaction but I’m guessing it doesn’t involve oxygen. I trust first hand experiences though. It’s kind of sad a company like thermal grizzly doesn’t flat out explain copper heatsink prep and maintenance. Part of the net seems to want to speed up the alloy coating(multiple thin cooked on coatings), the other part wants to seal or sand to avoid the alloying of the copper. And ive seen the same heatsink on lower end & some higher end ones then mine. The heatsink gets overwhelmed with my CPU and in fact im pretty sure my GPU is now dead after barley over a year of owning it. Almost maxe it two years

Thank you for the video. Really informative and telling! I am planning on using LM for just the CPU in the near future for my MSI laptop. I wanted to ask if it's alright to just clean and use LM for CPU only. Is it alright to leave the factory applied thermal paste on the GPU part (even though we have unscrewed the cooling solution) and then screw it back in as it is ?(only the CPU part will be cleaned and then applied with LM)
