Heads up to anyone who thought they just bricked their $1000 laptop. Try plugging it in first 😂. I was just about leave for best buy because I need a laptop for work if I just killed but decided to plug it in first. And it came back to life.

Watching this on my Y545 to do this later lol, had it for at least 3-4 years and its now hitting 94-95 degrees C while gaming so I'm going to replace the thermal paste. Nervous but this helps a lot. So thank you very much!!

Do you think that on these new intel ultra notebooks that dont have a gpu, the carbonaught would be better than stock paste and it would also mount evenly when screwing the heat pipes on.
@BobOfAllTrades11 күн бұрын
I don’t think anybody should make that assumption. It’s just going to come down to a per laptop basis, trial and error testing.

Hey this guide is completely incorrect. You are NOT supposed to remove the metal bit from the battery connector; simply sliding it back is sufficient. I popped it off completely on my laptop and shorted my mobo. Thanks a lot random youtube guy. Taught me what ought to happen if I trust random youtubers.

Thanks for the information. Great video. Had no issues after the thermal paste change. As you've said, had a problem with the L shaped bracket near the power plug :) Keyboard connection was also tricky, need to pay attention with that. 1g thermal grizzly was enough both for gpu and cpu. Strongly recommend removing the fans from the fins and clean the channel between them. After 6 years of usage, mine was almost blocked.

"quatro's more for precision" lmao as if geforce is less precise. They're made for different kinds of calculations: geforce for the calculations involved in rendering, espicially rtx and shaders and the sort of thing's you'd find in games, and quatro for various other gpu tasks (such as machine learning) --pulled out of my ass so I could appreciate if someone could confirm

Hey Bob! I've had this laptop for a while, and I've been wondering. Is there any way of turning down the refresh rate of the built in display? I would like to turn it down to 60Hz for a longer battery life. If that's not possible, would it be possible to ask Eluktronics to make it possible? I know it's an old system but it honestly bugs me a lot.

Thanks for the video. Was just wondering if it's necessary or beneficial to replace the thermal paste on the VRM with the K5 Pro? Would just using thermal paste instead of everything work the same since it initially had only thermal paste? Thanks again, appreciate the help.

what is the model number of the fan

Very unlikely that you would receive an answer here. Your best bet is to remove the fan. Most of them will have a small sticker with the part number on the fan.

I don't know which one would be a greater risk: dropping something on the mobo and fry it or try disconnecting the battery and... fry the damn thing. Neither of these happened, but it needed a well magnetised screwdriver with the right size/profile. Lid LED and fan connectors are indeed super flimsy, but manageable with care. Maybe the most time consuming part was getting rid of the old paste from the VRM parts one by one, some still ended up between them anyway, a toothbrush and some IPA would make it nice and tidy but maybe next time. CPU fan worn out in 3 years' time so it's not that far ahead, these paper thin bearings can't take much abuse for sure. (vs. Da Brick T440p :D )

@TurboThorsten2 ай бұрын
I have a question: why is it not possible to apply a thermal pad on the VRAM? I mean there are close enoughe to cut a 10x40 mm pad and place it there. As it is electrical noncunductive it should be fine to fill the gaps between the modules, right? And in pllcation for CPU and GPU is it possible to place larger ones to cover these full black areas?
