Interesting your m.2 slot being used is the location that just has the m.2 pads on mine. My m.2 is horizontal towards the front, below the RAM, under the black paper cover. I'm planning on installing the 2nd m.2 once I source the parts.
@rickstechrepairs3 жыл бұрын
that space under the ram, certainly has enough space for the m.2 Does your laptop has 2 m.2 slots?
@themadatheist19763 жыл бұрын
@@rickstechrepairs @Ricks Tech No, I only have the pads for it, MSI didn't populate that area. I watched your video on a phone and looked like there was a covering like what is being used on the RAM over that area. Must be just the PCB then. Yes that area is where I have my m.2 located. The spot you have yours populated is where they only have pads but left the connector, coupler capacitors, and the hold down stud off. I'll solder on the components once I get them. My laptop shipped with a 10th gen i7 with the 115w 2060, 1TB HDD, 512GB nvme, and 2x Samsung 3200 running at 2933.

@@rickstechrepairs Just finished soldering on the m.2 connector and the other supporting components last month, the mod fully works, and the BIOS already was ready for the 2nd m.2. Check the HardOCP forums under the SSD & Data storage section, titled "Dear MSI, thank you for leaving the solder pads", since KZbin deleted my link. I'm go by the same user name. Threw in a 2TB drive for just my games. The 1st attempt was with a solder iron and I melted the m.2 connector. Had to order a reflow gun and low melt solder for the 2nd attempt. I would recommend people to add the connector 1st, then the 8 tiny 0201 coupling capacitors last. Also order double since they can easily be lost.

I was able to find that identical RAM stick on Amazon for $31. I just installed it today and I am happy to report CPU-Z now shows 16gb of RAM and they are both running at the full speed of 2666mhz. It even matches the label on the original RAM stick of s7c-s68c803-s02 which is the MSI part number. When installing there is a black plastic film that you have to peel back in order to get access to the RAM slot.
