Highly requested thermal paste guide for the MSI GS66 Stealth. Just wanted to clarify the "pink stuff" is actually thermal pads, you can get replacements for those online if you feel you need them.
Suggested thermal paste: www.amazon.com...
Thanks for all of your support on my videos!
Hopefully this helps you guys.
Please feel free to leave feedback and suggestions down in the comments!

There is a little hole a bit left from the center on the back plate. There is a shutdown button underneath it, which can be pressed by a pin or a clip. It's necessary for safe unplugging of the battery. Remember to hold it for a several seconds (idk, how long, I hold it for 10 secs or so). After this you can safely disconnect your battery and be much safer with your motherboard. Remember, that laptop boots only when connected to powerbrick.

Hey, commenting on old video here, but anyway- 25min video and no change of thermal pads??? Thats just a bad decision to disassemble a laptop and leave thermal pads in such bad shape. In the future really consider changing them for every laptop that you disassemble, because they almost always get ineffective over time, and as you can see here- after disassemble they are broken, if you dont change them and just assemble laptop as it is, they will function even worse because for most of them there is not left much contact with chips and heatsinks.

Do you know if there was any significant Temp improvement? before/after
@NexusTechRepair
@NexusTechRepair 3 жыл бұрын
I personally never saw any change in temperature before and after the repaste, other than possibly 1 or 2 degrees. My thought is that they pasted it really well from the factory because of how thin it is so I’m not sure it could get much better unless you used liquid metal, but I’d advise against that personally. It’s all about disabling or customizing turbo ratios for your cores that will decrease the heat.
@ИгорьАлексеев-э6в
@ИгорьАлексеев-э6в 3 жыл бұрын
@@NexusTechRepairAlso liquid metal paste reacts with copper, because it contains gallium. So it sort of dries out and soaks into copper plate making it fragile. This causes huge thermal conductivity loss in future because of cracks appearing in the copper plate. So never use any liquid metal paste, unless you have chrome coating on copper parts of your heatsink.

It’s made zero difference as long as it’s not completely ruined after repeating the cpu. I hope you still monitor your channel comments(videos is 3yrs old). Do you by chance know what size thermal pads the other components use? I think my sons gs66 is having overheating issues. The screen freezes and has pixelated screen. This doesn't happen every time. It happens randomly but not all the time on the same game during the same scenarios. Why did you feel the need to replace the paste? Did you see any performance increases or temp improvements after replacing the paste on the GPU and CPU? What brand/size pads would you recommend?
@NexusTechRepair
@NexusTechRepair 2 ай бұрын
I didn’t see any respectable changes in thermals from changing the thermal paste unfortunately. Though that’s not to say you won’t it depends on the length of time he’s has the laptop. I still stand by using throttle stop and disabling turbo boost as a great way to reduce heat with minimal impact on performance. However the issue you state he’s having sounds like a possible GPU starting to go bad, definitely something to keep an eye on. As for the thermal pads I didn’t replace them and it worked just fine, but some people replace them, if you want to you can find some on amazon or even get larger pads and cut them to the size you need

@@deadline8416 It will fit because at 45°C it turns into a liquid paste, which will fill micro irregularities. Before cutting it out, I suggest putting it in the refrigerator for an hour to more conveniently remove the protective film, and you can use scissors to trim it. PTM has to pass through several phase changes. Over time, it will only dissipate heat more efficiently. With normal use of the laptop after ~3 days you already get its optimal performance. This can be accelerated by running a stress test through, for example CineBench for the CPU and MSI Kombustor for the dGPU.

@@NexusTechRepairbest regard Excuse me, I'm wondering if every time you change the paste these pink pads start to fall apart, so how do you replace them? Any products for those pink pads? I remain attentive to your answers, thank you very much

@andresd.rojasherrera6119 I don’t replace them. I’m sure you could find replacements online, but usually I just reuse the old ones

@@NexusTechRepair Thanks for answering, does that mean that I never need to change that pink paste on the vrams? I just change the pastermic for the cpu and gpu, as many times as I want, without the risk of overheating due to that pink paste?

@andresd.rojasherrera6119 I would say if it becomes very degraded you might want to replace it, but there really shouldn’t be a need to be changing your thermal paste on the cpu and GPU that frequently

I bought the MSI GS66 as well and want to add a 2nd SSD. Do I need to thermal pad/paste the 2nd SSD?
@NexusTechRepair
@NexusTechRepair 3 жыл бұрын
Nope, the second SSD/m.2/nvme drive is just plug and play, no thermal pads or paste required.

@@NexusTechRepair ok awesome. Thank you very much. I know you said it is not required, but is there any issues with heat or significant changes in power demand due to the 2nd SSD?

How is the MSI GS66? Is it great? What about battery, thermal heat and fan noise?

@@prashantranjitkar I have had no issues with it. It gets warm/hot but nothing hotter than 60-65 celcius

Hey man, can you do me a quick favour? I am wanting to downgrade my bios apparently that will fix my loud idle fan issues. We have the same specs so... I want to check what your bios version is, mine is E16V1IMS.10D. You can check in dragon centre > support > system info. Can you please tell me yours, it could be the same version idk, but if its not i want to try and downgrade to your version.
