Well, I don't want to belittle his experience, but a missing component in a faulty circuit is a pretty solid clue :)

not guessing... the board tells you that an inductor "L##" should be there. Next the solder balls not being completely solid like the factory ones is another indication that the component was missing from the board. Most likely from overheating and or shock from dropping the laptop.

Some days a little luck goes a long way. You did diagnose where the components were and came to the conclusion the backlight circuit would be at or around that spot, checking with the microscope revealed the missing component, I do not think it was luck at all, I think it is experience

Im having similar experience with my MSI but I'm not getting anything after connecting it to an external monitor also. The service centre said it's motherboard issue and did not explain much. I wonder what went wrong. :(

Man you just did some magic there I also got msi and driving me crazy something screen black no light other times just works but always working on external monitor Sometimes I unplug it and do battery reset and it works so I opened it and removed the battery completely kept working for a month no issues until yesterday again same shit but easy enough unplug charger and hold power button to free any electric charge and worked again so no idea what is going on there and it's hard to show the service guy coz like I said something works other times not It's really tricky plus I unplugged the screen cable.and cleaned it up.put it back and didn't help

For the MSI GS73VR, are there any connections related to the LCD around the power jack? I replaced my power jack and removed an adjacent capacitor by mistake. I soldered the capacitor back on. I don't know if I might have damaged or knocked off a tiny resistor or something. I double checked last night and found no missing discrete components. Good new is that my power jack is now fixed. But my LCD does not turn on at all. Windows does not see any internal LCD HW. HDMI works and that's how I'm typing this comment now. I checked all the connections around the connectors as you mentioned in 1:16 and they are all secure. Any ideas where else to check? I guess I dismantle the LCD enclosure to see if I yanked anything loose, but that would be hard to do.

I got an MSI gf65 that displays to an external monitor via hdmi but not through the internal lcd I've checked to see if it's the backlight but seems as though the screen isn't even on. Also I checked the webcam and the screen in device manager but not seeing them. Can you assist me please? It's very frustrating as this is the only machine I have currently.

I'm facing the issue with HDMI port when I plug the cable the laptop detects the monitor and shows nothing on the screen unless You changed the resolution to 800×600.

Did you try with customers screen. That may be faulty and causes the filter to blow? Filter don't just blow apart for no reason, right?

You always start by replacing a whole module (if you have it) to immediately find out if the fault is in the screen itself or somewhere else. Could've been screen, the LVDS cable or the motherboard (as it turned out). Screen replacement was the fastest, easiest and most logical first attempt at narrowing the possible issues down.
