Love your videos man, always a pleasure to watch, nice lil system there man, I hope it worked out well, I'm personalty more of the Gigabyte mainboard guy, even I came from using Supermicro boards during my server days, I loved their hardware , always an neatly filled set ,a checklist if a part was missing you could contact Supermicro and they would ship it too you within 24 hours. But forentry level workstations and gaming PC's Gigabyte always satisfied my needs and expectations from such a system, also a nice build for your vega 64's if you plan on using it fir direct compute, might be worth considering, since there are Dual PCI-E gen 5 x16 slots if used it's 2x PCI-E gen 5 x8 but since the Vega 64 uses a PCIe 3.0 x16 interface, PCI-E Gen 5 x8 is like PCI-E gen4 x16 and anything older than this will just use the full bandwidth the PCI-E bus can give them, this way you won't lose performance if using Dual V64's. your 5800X3D is ideal for the Navi 21 KXTX aka RX 6950 XT , two awesome builds that way.

Idk about direct compute, the heaviest thing I do on this system is editing. For some reason I've not have many Giga boards. I have one right now, a X370 in my workshop rig. I'm bound to have a vid about that eventually, as I know I filmed some upgrades to it. It's been good. Other than the Bios soft bricking that happens if you let the computer use sleep mode. But I don't use sleep mode on that computer, so it doesn't matter. I got it for cheap cause it kept soft bricking, so I traded the guy a spare B350 board I had. Oh, there is also the problem of it turning on on it's own. The computer, would literally turn itself on. Turned out to be a wake on LAN bug. Last Giga board I had was back in the mids 2000's for my Phenom x4 9600. I really didn't like it. At the time Giga was missing all the creature comforts I was used it in Asus, like the ability to control you fan speeds, and I wasn't a fan of the software it came with. These days, they're all good it seems, except for when they start to cut corners like Asus is alleged to be doing.

Hey, thanks ! 1: So far the mobo has been stable and things seem to work well, at least as far as hardware goes. In a future video you'll see me migrate my existing windows over to it. It has been running fine with this old install of windows. In fact, I tried installing a fresh windows, to see if there were performance gains, and the fresh install ran worse, I have no idea why. There were more bugs. Also certain things that worked in my old install didn't work on my new install. Seems my old install is seasoned, stuff I've installed over the years has resulted in software support for things that I'm not sure how to get back. Luckly, my old install is still pretty clean running. My biggest gripe is the audio, seems these new boards, I looked, almost all of them use the same chip, use a new audio chip that runs off the USB buss. As such, it's subject to USB low power state / sleep state features that make the audio buggy. There is like a split second delay when to run something that has audio. You play a video, and the audio is cut off for the first split second till the USB audio wakes up. I'm not sure if all the other AM5 boards that use the same chip do this, but when I googled it, it is a common issue. And sometimes, the audio just stops. I'll just have no audio anymore until a restart the computer, using spdif out to my stereo. If I plug in headphones those work fine, unplug, spdif still dead. Again, this is a problem related to the USB audio chip, that all these AM5 boards are using now, so I'm not sure it's specific to this board. 2: I dont' regret this board, but, I'm curious about the Asus ProArt B650. The Asus strix boards, like the E and F could be good choices if you don't need the extra PCI lanes. It all depends on what IO you need and what you want to do with your system. Check out my "Poorly presented rant about AM5" video where I discuss some of these things. 3: Yeah, I think I covered this in this video. They designed this so you can use existing am4 coolers, which is said to be it's weakness. They had to make the ISH thicker to do this which makes the heat transfer less efficient.

@samrrae 9 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for the response. I'll definitely check out your video on the migration, even though it's something I've never done; I've always opted for clean installations from scratch as it seems everything adapts better. Although, as you mentioned, in your case, it turned out worse. Audio Yes, the ALC4080 has a USB controller, I understand why it's subject to power. This must be annoying in certain circumstances. However, on some motherboards, I've struggled to find the audio codec they use. Even though Realtek creates the codecs (as I've read), some motherboards don't specify which codec they use; they just say "Realtek 7.1". It's not known if it's an ALC4080, ALC1200, ALC1220, etc. This doesn't instill confidence because I can't find accurate opinions. I Have a Quirk To be totally honest, my quirk is in versatility. I don't think I'll have two GPUs (very few do), but I have this strange need to know that I have two PCIe slots, as well as at least three M.2 ports or WiFi. Review As for motherboards, I've been looking at the Asus ProArt B650. It looks good, but at 292€ (Amazon Germany), I think better boards can be found. Although the Asus ProArt has a 650 chipset (and it's sufficient), for 291€, you can find 670X cards (but chipsets are another matter, as there's not too magical a difference). It has 2 PCIe 4.0 compared to the MSI, which has 2x5.0 (although I also understand that no GPU today uses PCIe 5.0) and comes without WiFi. Even if it's not used, and a cable is always better, it's about versatility. If you move, you can use the PC at least while you install the cable, I say this from the experience of moving constantly. Some Suggestions/Ideas If you allow me to suggest some ideas, I've been researching for 2 weeks; you could look at what I propose, and I'll be pleased to read your opinions. MPG B650 Carbon WiFi for 260€ compared to the ProArt's 291€, but still with ALC4080. MAG X670E Tomahawk WiFi for 302€, but it comes with ALC1200 (no idea how this codec will perform), but the price is close to that of the ProArt. Asus ROG Strix X670E is very good, but it costs 505€, and still comes with ALC4080. Clarifying Doubts I'm essentially looking to build a powerful mid-high range computer for gaming and design work. I plan to use Windows 11 (fresh OEM installation). Apologies I'm sorry if I didn't notice in the video you mentioned about the AM4 cooling in AM5, I didn't catch that. And I hadn't considered that this would result in worse heat transfer. Lastly, thank you for letting us share opinions on this topic and taking the time to read. You've inspired me to write all of this, and I hope neither you nor anyone takes offense at the suggestions. I don't want to sound altruistic; I say everything with respect, dear friend. Yes, perhaps to generate a debate, but one that helps us all clarify doubts. Thanks a million.@@DATT

@@samrrae I love recycling windows installs. Been doing it for a long time successfully. It's almost a flex to me. Depending on the setup, it'll make almost no difference in performance as exampled in my case. Just you know, other crap builds up after a while. Ahhh, yeah, I forgot that the B650 doesn't have proper PCIe5. I guess that can be a selling point looking forward. Not sure what kind of card you need to max that out. As it sits right now, I think I did performance tests, in gaming, withmy 6950XT, comparing PCIe4x16, then throttled to PCIe4x8, and saw no difference. PCI seems to be outrunning hardware needs right now. But yeah, it would bug me a bit too knowing I don't have that extra future support. I pretty much always default to Asus, hence my recommendations. They are what I know. So I don't know much about some of the other boards, other than what I looked at for this build. If I was looking to compromise, I looked at asus, otherwise, when I looked at other boards, I looked at their higher end. That said, if you don't want to give up IO, this was the board that won it for me. Ironically, I'll have room to add a sound card, unlike some of the other options. I think the ALC1200 might be an older, but proven reliable audio chip, that runs off the PCIe buss. I can't find a chip name for my X570, but my x470 used the S1220, same family I suppose. Ah, I don't see any offense here. Just discussing motherboard options in a frustrating market.

For a few years now, I've been installing OEM versions of Windows because the keys are more affordable, always starting from scratch. I mention this because I don't know if there's any difference. Of course, I don't know which version of Windows you usually install/migrate, but if possible, could you emphasize during the migration on how to retrieve the key? As I understand, it gets embedded somewhere in the SSD associated with the motherboard, making it unusable elsewhere, but I also know there are ways to extract it. It's crazy what's going on nowadays with motherboards and everything; it seems like we've gone backward. Instead of simplifying things, they've made everything overly complicated with tiny details that 'guarantee' the best, all just to increase sales and prices. In the past, I only used to consider the socket, RAM space, and not much more. Today, they make you check whether the solder joints are reinforced or not -.- And thanks for understanding that we're just sharing opinions. Nowadays, comments or suggestions are often taken the wrong way by communities. Of course, there are no tones when you read, so this is very subjective, and you know, we also live in the generation of glass@@DATT

@@samrrae Oh yeah eh. Admittedly, I've don't this for decade, using the older OS's that did not have a key lock to mobos. So far it hasn't been a problem with Win10. Now, I've ran many cracked copied of Win10 in the past that did not have any issues with this. But then, my recent gaming rig, used a OEM Win10 key, and it's almost a completely different system now than it was when I build it a few months ago. I had no registration errors. All the core components are different, including the Mobo. So Idk, it just hasn't come up yet. Some of the complications they are adding to new computers make some sense, and there is a reason for it, but yeah, other can be a pain to work around. I dont' assume the worst of commenters unless it's obvious. This is essentially a public forum, as such it's open to discussion and criticism. Hey everyone, still struggling to pick my future AM5 Mobo for my 7800x3D with the news on the PCIe5 GPUs coming (probably) next year. Just to be absolutely sure : If I go with the Asus X670E-E, I could potentially go with - 1 PCIe 5 x 16 GPU (RTX 5000?) - 2 Gen 5 x 4 M2 slots used - 1 Gen 4 x 4 Chipset M2 slot used - (not using the 3rd Gen 5 x 4 M2 slot to not halve the bandwidthes with the main PCIe 5 x 16 slot) > Without anything being halved in the bandwidth right (or just the last Gen 4 M2 being slightly slowed ?) + being able to OC the CPU with the external clock generator on the Mobo. Otherwise, if I go with the MSI X670e Carbon and go with : - 1 PCIe 5 x 16 GPU (RTX 5000 ?) - 2 Gen 5 x 4 M2 slots used - 1 Gen 4 x 4 M2 slot used - 1 Gen 4 x 4 Chipset M2 slot used > With maybe the last 2 Gen 4 M2 slots sharing some bandwidth together and being a little bit slowed, BUT not being able to OC the CPU with a external clock generator (absent on the board) ? Let me know if I recall correctly, it's a little bit hard for me to understand it all.

Word is, even the best card right now can't saturate the PCIe4 busses we already have. So the PCIe5 Card likely will not. I figure by the time we actually have to worry about such things we will have retired out Ryzen 7000's and be looking at next gen. I suppose the hope is AM5 in general will last us a while. Assuming you're only running one GPU, and don't need the second PCIe slot, either of these boards should do. I've seen nothing in the specs of either of these boards that suggest any of the M2's share bandwidth with the main PCIe slot. Either board, with one GPU, and an empty second slot, should give you full fat PCIe5x16, and you should be able to use all your M2 slots without much problems.

Hey i have a question for this motherboard : as you know some MB share pci between nvme and gpu, so on some boards if u put like nvme your x16 bus is diviedee by 2 which impacts the gaming performance. @DATT
@DATT 8 ай бұрын
Yeah, that was one of the selling points with this board, it didn't seem to have any PCI sharing like the other boards I was looking at. You got 2 proper PCIe x16/x8x8 jacked into the cpu, and 2 full NVME slots that jack into the cpu with no compromises. Meanwhile, you got 2 more NVME, and some more PCIe that claim to have no conflicts. That's specifically why I chose this board. That said, I can't think of any board that I've seen where the NVME will conflict with the main Graphics PCIe slot. Usually that main slot always gets it's own lanes. It's the other spare slots, or other board features that will share lanes. I might not have covered that in this video, but I released another video right after called "A Poorly Presented Rant about AM5" where I thought on the PCI sharing conflicts, if you are curious.

That's I'm not sure. You MIGHT be able to. I would install each OC separately, as in with only the one drive installed. Then you might be able to select which one you boot off of in the boot menu in BIOS, or there is often a hotkey on many motherboard, that interrupts the boot process to let you select the boot drive. Could work. Never tried it. Can't guarantee it. Some OS's might dominate the board, but I think they make dual boot utilities that allow it. One thing about this board what has come in handy, is the quick release on the main SSD slot. It's above the GPU, and is well clear of my water block, so I can easily swap SSD's to boot a different one. That's a more manual process.

I wouldn't touch the ACE, for me. Idk for you. The ACE has better VRMs it seems if you're into hardcore LN2 or chiller overclocking. For a typical gaming system, you're unlikely to notice a difference. The ACE has 10g LAN, which is only useful if you have a super high end expensive network setup with a NAS that can go that fast. Again, usless to the average gamer. The ACE seems to have better audio, some sort of DAC, so it might be good for an audiophile, but I'm not sure it'd be worth that extra money to me. The onboard on the Carbon is pretty good to my ears. They have pretty much the same PCIe port configs. The ACE has LESS M2. Both have 4 ports, but the Carbon has two PCIe 5.0 port that jack right into the CPU whereas the ACE says it has only one, and the rest are 4.0 thru the chipset. That's another thing you're unlikely to feel. The ACE is a lot of board, but to me, not worth the extra cost, however, I've never tried an ACE to compare, so I really don't know for sure.

@@prospect2664 The Extra SSD thing ? They both support 4 ssd's by default. I see it comes with an expander card, for an additional 4? Which makes no sense, cause the only true 16x slot on that board is the main graphics port. You'd have to not have a video card to use that card fully. Or put it in the second slot and have only 2 extra slots, but half the bandwidth for the GPU. Or put it in the 3rd slot and only get one additional slot. In which case, for one additional slot you can buy after market SSD to PCIe adapters for like $20. I'm not even sure what MSI was thinking with this one.

@@prospect2664 Hmm, well at this time, I havent' worked with enough a variety of them to call it for sure. It depends on your needs. This is maybe more board than I needed for what I use this system for, so I could of probably gotten something cheaper like a B650. I'm not regretting this purchase so far. The only thing I don't like is that the Spdif optical out does not work reliably. But that might be common with other board that use the same audio chip, which a lot do. I went back to using the analog out, cause my amp is close to the PC anyway, and the onboard sound actually turned out to be better than using spdif. Other than that, I wish it posted faster. I recently updated the BIOS and it's still slow. Maybe I should play with settings again. BEST is really subjective. I think you'd be good with anything Asus or MSI that has the features you need.

Evet, büyük bir fark olurdu. Bu soğutucu, bilgisayarı oluşturmadan önce her şeyin çalıştığından emin olmak için geçiciydi.

Ah, I'm good for now, I haven't been using this rig for gaming. Esp since they say I'd need to reinstall windows. I have another video coming of me setting up my existing windows on this, and this windows it mature and functional, and in fact, I tried doing a fresh install and got zero diff in performance, but, idk what went wrong, but this fresh install was glitchy, and certain programs and features didn't want to work the same way. My current install is so well seasoned, I have features in it that work on certain programs, I'm not even sure how to get back with a fresh install. It's kind of, idk, messed up.
