hi i have a question im building my first pc i bought a msi z790 edge wifi the box says it supports 13th gen will i still need to update before building my pc?
@KLEEBZTECH Жыл бұрын
@@winglover32 hard to say for sure. The board may support it but need updates to the BIOS. What you can do is look on the support page for the site and see if the CPU you are going to be using is supported and what BIOS is required. It should be under the compatibility section of the support page for your motherboard. I know for mine it is under the Results column and will show a zip file name which that name shows the BIOS version.

Not too shabby of a video. I am building out a new PC using the MSI MPG Z790 Carbon and will be using an I9=13900 Raptor (13th Gen) CPU. Even though the board states 12/13th Gen ready, I decided to flash the BIOS after looking that the BIOS update frequency on MSI's support page for the motherboard, every couple of months. Typically motherboards don't have the latest firmware revision, and depending the particular scenario, it may or may not matter if you first flash it before inserting the CPU, RAM, etc. The only time I would think it would necessary is if you're installing a new gen of CPU, then having the current BIOS revision would matter. I just put the MB on the box, hooked up the motherboard power cable, and only used one CPU power cable, even though there are 2 CPU power connect ports -- I'll use both when I'm assembling it into my tower case. A few points to mention: - I used an older USB 2.0 thumb drive that lights up when being accessed that way I can tell if the motherboard flashing process is accessing it. A USB 3.0 would probably work too. Make sure to format it with FAT32. - After downloading the appropriate BIOS update file from MSI's website, make sure you Extract All (uncompress) the .zip file. Then I would recommend to look in File Explorer at the View settings tab, and make sure Details, File name extensions are ticked. - Fully rename the uncompressed BIOS update file to MSI.ROM and copy it to the now formatted, empty USB drive. - There is a USB port labeled on my motherboard for MFLASH which is where I inserted the USB drive into. - I powered on the PSU, verified the motherboard had power and then pressed the labeled Flash BIOS button. It started blinking and I also noticed the USB drive was being accessed. - Ultimately the LED for the Flash BIOS button stopped blinking and went off. Total time took around 6 to 7 minutes of time. I won't know for 100% certainty if it it worked until I get my system fully assembled and a monitor hooked up -- still waiting on the CPU to show up, but I'm assuming the processes did work.

I'm building my pc after 12 years. I don't have another pc at home, so I'd thought I'd try this method using my phone. I tried twice. First time with an old USB I had collecting dust in one of my drawers. Second time with the USB that came with the Tomahawk motherboard. For some reason, I was afraid to use that USB, but when I connected it, it had nothing stored in it. MSI must've given me a blank USB, or maybe it was for the purpose of downloading a new Bios file. I followed the steps in the video again. But the MB just had a slow flashing red light that's been going on nonstop, just like on the first try with the first USB. That stayed on. I fell asleep with it still flashing. So I gave up and will try when the computer is up and running, I hope. I don't think adding the file to the usb thumb drive by phone worked for me.

Hello, This was a great tutorial and process explaining everything but I have came up with a problem so basically I used the usb I got with my motherboard and that usb made the motherboard turn on and there’s a red light flashing where the USB ports are I can see it through the side kind of so I’m not sure if it’s not working or not but after 7 minutes the lights all turn off and then turn back on except for the flashing red lights and my motherboard still has a red dot next to cpu so I’m not sure what to do now as well as I tried another usb that I got from Best Buy and I asked them if it would work with my pc and they said it would but when I tried it sadly didn’t so now I’m very confused on what to do. I was wondering if you could give me a quick explanation on what I should do if your not sure I might have to take it to Best Buy, the reason I’m saying Best Buy is that my cousin works there and she said that they have a very good team that’s helpful with stuff like this so yea. Really appreciate the video - thank you:) I never updated the bios before I inserted all the components (including a new 13th gen i7) on my new Z690 Edge WIFI DDR 4 and keep getting a red CPU light blinking. Could not updating the bios be the issue? If so, should I remove all the components before I do the update? At the end of your video you say to not turn on the power if all the components are on the motherboard. Cheers
@KLEEBZTECH Жыл бұрын
You could look on the support page to find out if that CPU was not supported by early versions and might give you a clue but that is a good possibility. You do not need to remove the components. Just turn on the power supply but do not boot the computer at any point. You will just have the power supply in the on position so when you push the Flash BIOS button it will do the update.

Thanks so much@@KLEEBZTECH. After about 5 1/2 minutes, the BIOS update took care of the red CPU light and was good to go:)

@@nigelphillips7454 As I previously mentioned, you will want to get the bios update from the support page for your product. Believing that something is the right one is telling me that is not what you are doing. You could mess something up if not using the correct one. And please next time it is best to post a new comment instead of replying to an unrelated one since I am not likely to see it.

"If you are doing this with everything already connected you do not wanna power up the PC at this point"? Why? How can I flash the bios if I am not powering up the PC? I have RAM and SSD and CPU installed. What am i supposed to do? When am I supposed to be turn on that PSU? Or do you mean powering on with the actual on-button on the PC (case)?
@KLEEBZTECH2 жыл бұрын
You turn on the power switch for the power supply only so you have power to the board. Do not press the power button on the PC.

Nice video, where can we buy your motherboard openframe case ?
@KLEEBZTECH11 ай бұрын
It is a test bench. You can find them in many places like Amazon. They are designed to make it easy to work on systems without needing to be in a case.

Unfortunately, I could not use the FLASH button on the back of the mainboard. I had to take a USB stick and connect it to the computer (format it to FAT32), then I downloaded the file from the MSI website under BIOS files. I unzipped the zip folder and loaded it onto the USB stick without renaming it. Then I went into the BIOS under M-Flash and selected my USB stick with the file on it. (MSI B550 Gaming Plus)

I am unclear on something here. I have a fully functional MSI board that has an older BIOS Vers. I want to update it. I have the file. This computer has been running for months now. DO I need to disconnect all the hard drives to flash the BIOS at this point? Can I just leave everything connected and with the Win10 Pro shut down, flash the BIOS from the rear? I would prefer not to remove the 5 drives at this point. I will if it is required.

I've never had an issue. When you press the button it's only going to look in that specific USB port for the drive.
@legenddave61736 күн бұрын
I followed every step. And tried with 3 different USB sticks. But none of them worked until now. Every time I press the Bios Button, it flashes 3 times, then it stays on. The pc starts up for a few seconds and then it shuts down again. Plus the CPU Debug LED is on. And nope, the CPU works. I tried it on an other system and it works flawless. Is the issue still the USB stick?

Can you help me out please,i bought the msi z790 and it turns on and turns off after a few seconds and there is no video.. I also using a new cpu. Should i flash my bios?
@KLEEBZTECH Жыл бұрын
You could check the support page for your motherboard in the bios section and see what the updates fix. That might give you an idea if it will help you. If it's a newer CPU there's a good chance that you may need to update it to support it.

@@KLEEBZTECH i pluged the usb and started the update with the usb blinking . And then i think the update finished and then the MOBO turned off and back on again but without the usb blinking. Should i wait until it turns off by itself?

Can i use the usb drive for installing windows as well? Or can it only be used for the bios?

Great video - but scary, as my USB drive doesn't have an activity LED. Apart from the use case when the BIOS needs to be flashed to support the CPU, is there any reason not to use a CPU + the M-Flash UI in BIOS instead? Thank you.

I’m going to be using this method to update the bios on MSI Pro x670-P wifi in preparation for 7800x3d. Is there a higher chance of it working on USB 2.0 flash drives rather than 3.0?
@KLEEBZTECH Жыл бұрын
Yes. I've always had best luck with lower capacity USB 2.0. But I will say I have had USB 3.0 work in some cases where 2.0 didn't work.
@carterclough1009 Жыл бұрын
How did your update go with the MSI Pro x670-P wifi with the 7800x3d? I just bought these two and I saw the bios warning on the pc part picker site. From what I can tell from product pics, the x670 flash bios usb is a 3.0. Did it work for you?

Sounds like your USB drive is larger than 32 GB. That is why you need a USB 32 GB or smaller since windows won't allow you to format FAT32 with larger USB drives

When it comes to choosing the latest update, you are talking about the latest non-beta update, right? For my motherboard, there are two betas that have been released sooner but the latest non-beta update was released back in '19.
@KLEEBZTECH Жыл бұрын
Usually I would avoid beta unless there is specifically something in that update you need. Usually you don't need to update the BIOS unless there's a specific reason

The Z590 Torpedo doesn't have a specific port labeled 'Flash BIOS,' but it is equipped with a Flash BIOS Button. Which USB port should I use?
@KLEEBZTECH11 ай бұрын
Double check the manual. When I have run into a board that doesn't have something on the back to label it usually it will tell you in the manual somewhere. Of course you can keep trying different ports to see which one it reads when you do it.
