Thank you!!! After reinstalling Win10 on my MSI GT72 the lights would not work until I downloaded the setup file from the link provided. Now it works perfectly. Nobody else tells you this anywhere! So thank you. It is now Engine 4 as of July 2024. But same process.

I've tried your solution several times, but when I install the original GG version and go back to Program files to link the driver file in the SteelSeries folder, I can't find any file by that name. On the other hand, before installing the original GG version, when I go into Program Files, I see the SteelSeries folder, but once I uninstall the keyboard in Device Manager, and install the SteelSeries GG, the Driver folder no longer appears. What do you suggest, please?

Not sure if anyone else has had this issue but I did on my MSI GP75. It would start but get stuck loading. I uninstalled the program and went to steel series website and downloaded the newest version and installed that and stopped windows update from updating it. Fixed the issue and haven't had any since. I'm guessing something's wrong with 'windows update' version of the program. This may or may not help you but it's definitely worth a shot.

I know Windows updates don't go along with MSI applications. I had a similar problem with the Dragon Center after a Windows update. It would simply not load, so I had to restore my Windows to an older restore point and reinstall the Dragon Center.

That's the one you need to delete. First uninstall the Steelseries App, delete the keyboard in device manager, reboot and reinstall. Does that work?

I'm an idiot, I've been looking for a reason all day, it turned out that my friend pressed the fn + "dimming" keyboard shortcut (in the hope that this button is responsible for the brightness of the screen) and as a result, I only now realized that it wasn't a screen at all! You're not the only one. Many users me included find it confusing to have to press FN and the MINUS key to brighten the lights, while PLUS is for dimming. I'm sure it was invented on April fools day. Anyway, I am glad you have your colors back

I have noticed that some keys on your keyboard are lit up differently and permanently even when it wasn't supposed to be lit. Is it a normal thing after years of use? I have a MSI GE63 and some keys have a different color even when I select the same color for all keys. It ANNOYS ME TO DEATH. Is there any definitive solution to this? I got here looking for a solution to this problem but I guess your tutorial is to solve the lighting effects not working ( it still works for me at least ...)

Unfortunately after about a year of use the colors started to shift and change. I tried everything, without luck. The MSI customer service told me that replacing the entire keyboard would be the only solution. But then it might happen again after a year or so. Not happy

@@ParadiseBizz Thanks for the answer. Too bad for us then... I guess it's a common problem with MSI. This is the second laptop I own from them and both had problems with the keyboard lights. I thought it was bad luck or it had something to do with the heat ( since it is almost always at 90C+ even when not using full game configs). Not to mention other minor problems .... I like the brand but next time I'll opt for a different one.

It is so much cheaper compared to buying a laptop and you can upgrade or exchange parts over time. Hello I hope you can answer my question since I have contacted msi support and they only basically tell me to get the laptop to them. The problem that I have is like the rgb light are like kinda of bug and the light of only on some key turn on even if I disable the rgb function. Even restarting the pc still the same only those keys are on I have reinstalled everything even update the bios. Please help me I can’t even sleep even thinking about it

The unpleasant truth is that those keys go bad after a short time and they are changing colors in a way they're not supposed to. Nothing helps, except for replacing the entire keyboard. Nut then you'd start all over and a few month down the road you would have the same issue. The good news is that the majority of the keys keep illuminating in the correct colors, and with the right color modus you won't notice the failing keys too much.

Glad it helped. Unfortunately there is no fix for the wrong colors, not even if you're resetting the entire Laptop - something the MSI support easily will suggest. No, you would actually purchase and replace the entire keyboard to fix that. And who knows how long it will last until it illuminates again in the wrong colors.

Hey thanks for the vid, was helpful. I have a GP76 Leopard and here's what ended up working for me, though I'd suggest it only if the steps in the vid don't work as it removes the SS keyboard driver temporarily: Uninstalled the PS/2 keyboard AND the driver when prompted. After restart SSE said keyboard was not connected. Went back to devices, right clicked new PS2 keyboard windows auto installed and hit update driver. It said it was up to date, however I then tried the "search for updated drivers on Windows Update" option and it found a newer PS/2 specific for steel series, did a restart for windows to update to that and it finally worked. Back to disco keys! 🪩

If they don't turn on at all it is very likely that you need to press FN and the MINUS key a few times to bring them up. Let me know if that helps, Dirk

I have a different situation, the keyboard lighting goes dim with out warning, but still shows strange colors spaced over the keyboard. I found I have to use "Fn + - and + keys" to get the colors back to full color. PS I am using Steelseries software version GC 17.0.0. Plus running on windows 11 pro.

Even your keyboard lighting has a green light bug, same as me, keyboard light is supposed to be black (turn off), but I don't know why still on (dim light)

The color changes are made by adressing a certain current to the LED's. The reason why that they are illuminating in the wrong color might be that something inside the machine is addressing the wrong voltage to the LED's and when they are supposed to be dark, there might be still some current. I don't know if it is a failure of the steelseries app or what is responsible for that.

@@ParadiseBizz No, the Steelseries GG app doesnt seem to recognize the keyboard in order to modify the keyboard lighting. It only show the option to change the lighting behind the monitor.

So you would need to uninstall the app, find and download the version of the Seelseries that was initially installed on your laptop, reboot it, delet the keyboard in device manager, reboot it, install the app, reboot it again and it should work. Hey, I have an msi gl65 leopard, I uninstalled the standard ps2 file rebooted and installed steel series but my keyboard still does not seem to change colors. Some keys are purple and some are red and the rest are blue, I tried all configurations but nothing seems to work and I jsut want to disable all the keyboard lights but no matter what I do some keys are still having red and purple lights, I tried decreasing the brightness of keys using fn+ but that did not work either , what can I do?

Hm, that's a tough one. If the steps describen in my video here don't work, then it could be your MSI Dragon Center is acting out. Open it and see if anything needs to be reset. You could also reinstall it, that should bring things back to normal.

I would suggest to take a screenshot of what you see and then to send it to the SteelSeries customer support. Sorry, I am not familiar with the GE63, I would think it is similar to the 76 You could also try a different SteelSeries GG version, see if that works

I think it works only if you have a SteelSeries keyboard built into your Laptop. You can try, the download is free. If it doesn't work you uninstalled it again.

Unfortunately I believe that GG is limited to the colors the app offers for each scene

I think the Steel Series Engine delivers the wrong Voltage to some of the LED's, because some of them are illuminating, when all LED's are supposed to be black. So something supplies them with additional power, which causes a permanent color switch

Unfortunately there is not much help coming from the MSI support team. Their advice to reset the entire laptop does not help. It could be a mechanical issue, which would mean you'd need to replace the entire keyboard to fix that.

@@legendaryhero-kr5pq Thanks for the sub. First thing you should try to do is to go to Windows Update, then VIEW UPDATE HISTORY and the UNINSTALL UPDATES. Try this first. If this does not help type RESTORE in your Search Bar and click on CREATE A RESTORE POINT. On the new popup window you click on SYSTEM RESTORE. Now select CHOSE A DIFFERENT RESTORE POINT and select one that dates back to the day everything was functioning normal

@@ParadiseBizz Yes bro I uninstalled the updates and then after a few minutes my laptop froze. It's not responding to anything. I can't even move mouse or press any keys. Then I force shutdown by pressing power button long enough for it to shutdown. After shutdown laptop boot up by updating and then my caps lock num lock indicators are working fine.

I have an msi ge63 raider rgb rtx2080 When i first got windows (factory reset) the program worked properly, a couple of days later the steelseries said "not connected" on the msi per key rgb, although i also have mystic light and it works perfectly fine. I later tried uninstalling the driver, updating, installing older versions of steelseries, and doing combinations with these options. None of them worked and even worse, steelseries doesn't even show the "msi per key rgb keyboard" option. I don't know what to do and even though i am stuck with the best preset "disco" and have full control over the intensity of the lighting, i am still feeling out on the experimentation and customization that comes with the program. Do you know what to do? What if i simply applied the folder and files that comes with the msi per key rgb keyboard (although i couldn't find anyone who has shared them)? Thanks

First of all with the FN key down you can press the key-light buttons (on my laptop that is + and -) to brighten or to dim the LED's to zero. Next try to reset the keyboard controller, Turn off the notebook, Disconnect the AC Adapter, and press & hold the power button for exactly 15 seconds to trigger a EC Reset, after this, reconnect the power cord and turn the unit normally, the unit should power cycle several times for a minute. Let me know if this worked for you

@@KurtisPape No worries. Before starting make sure to set the keyboard brightness to max: press FN and tap on MINUS Uninstall Steelseries, app, download a new version. IN device manager delete the current keyboard - yes, delete, not deactivate. Then restart the laptop. Now install the new Steelseries engine.

My MSI Dragonforce is telling me that my steelseries engine 3 is only using 2.2.0.0 where as 3.19.0 is the online version? I've done the Steelseries check and I've tried yours and to no luck, my laptop lights are still not working :( This only happened after I my laptop updated to windows 11 on an auto update and I didn't care or have it set to a factory reset stage...hard bummer

Sadly this does not work for me :( Maybe I should have tried this fix when i used to have win10 .. Now i updated it to w11... (But Ive had the freaking issue basically since buying the laptop 3 years ago. ) I even tried uninstalling the device - Human interfaces , where Steelseries is also listed.. And then I deleted all temp files aswell from device drivers etc.. But Nothing helps... WHY will MSI not fix this???! Absurde to pay huge amou nts of money for their laptop to get MORE but you get LESS ... The laptop is totally useless for me in the dark ... (But i know the hardware is not broken, since when i press FN, it goes red.. And half of the times after a reboot, the keyboard will flash promptly .. Or even animate with a rainbow or aqua fade effect ... -_- ) ... So clearly this is a software issue...
