Thank you for doing this review, I really wanted a msi laptop again but had to settle with the alienware M16 which I sold because I didn't like haha. This is nice, I hope msi adjust their pricing again. I wanted the raider before but the price premium was too much.

I got this laptop today ( rtx 4090 model ) after being bumped that i didnt manage to get a Lenovo Legion 7i, but it turned out to be one of the greatest choice ive ever made. And you have helped me made that choice, because i searched through everywhere and not one single detailed review of this laptop was found, until i ended up here. Im a graphic design major, and aside from gaming, i needed a good display to help me do work, and i wasnt sure that this screen can satisfy my needs, and then your video helped me made up my mind. This thing is a monster, it looks pretty and performs super well, and the screen is extremely good, and the build and design is sturdy and pretty. Basically a well-round laptop thats extremely good and a big steal for its price range.

@Jefrico_Fernaldy I love it… I have upgraded the storage that was super easy. It’s performs extremely well and the qhd+ screen is fantastic.. I have heard the fhd variant is underwhelming. I play on ultra performance mode with headphones and it is LOUD but I expect most will use balanced mode with it tolerable. The speaker are a lot better and louder than I thought they would be.. yeh, can’t really think of many negatives to be honest..

Ik heb een vraag over deze laptop in vergelijking met een andere laptop in dezelfde prijs. Namelijk de HP OMEN 16-wf0062nb Azerty en deze de MSI Vector GP78HX 13VH-223BE Azerty. Allebij nu op 2999. Welke zou jij aanraden voor gewoon thuis te gebruiken. Gewicht en mobiel zijn maakt niet echt uit. Alvast bedankt voor uw hulp.

how does this compare to the Lenovo 16" Legion Pro 7i 16IRX8H? It's the same price in the US right now, but the lenovo has a slightly weaker cpu and 32 gb of ram.

Could you please help me in this issue? I have exactly the same model only difference is mine 1TB version and all other details are the same. Even I am not playing game the battery lasts only 1.5-2 hours as maximum even sometimes much more less. I do not know what should I do? Is it damagefull if I am using this laptop while it is charging?

I tried this pc and it performs great and look also very good. MSI made great progressions in the last three years in the laptop segment. Being a little chunky and not sleek do permit nice overall termals. Nice review, by the way.

Good video. The same laptop here in Greece starts from about 3600 euros and depending on the store quickly goes much higher. The 4090 model is about 1000 higher. (ouch!) It's a lot of money for it IMO. Especially with those thermals. Otherwise, if I were to buy one as a desktop replacement, I would go for the 1080p or 1200p or whatever the lowest monitor option is, to save money as I would connect it to a proper external monitor and in the rare occasion I would use it off base, the 1080p would (my guess) probably be more battery efficient. Not a bad laptop, but I admit if somehow I had access to one, I would change the thermal paste to see if that would save a few degrees.

That's rough. I see the prices just dropped here this week btw, so 3200 for the 4080, 3800 for the 4090. Not nearly as bad. Maybe it'll drop in Greece soon too.

Yeeuj, nieuwe Techtester video! Ik zie dat MSI zijn laptop iets meer gestroomlijnd heeft gemaakt. Het ziet er minder bulky uit en zelfs het logo is anders. Wel moet ik zeggen dat ik niet zo'n grote fan ben van die dunne scharnieren. Omen laptops hebben bijvoorbeeld heel brede scharnieren die er meer sturdy uitzien.

10:02 Yes even if you got a desktop replacement its still a laptop because u need portability and while doing that u still need a solid 5+ Hours to answer emails watch some series while travelling etc..

I haven't tested it but I can't think of a good reason why either slot would have a capacity limitation.

Does MSI laptops have coil whine, ı am not sure but ı think ı have never seen a review which highlights it. Can someone tell if they have seen or experienced? Also is coil whine on asus laptops like g18 and scar 18 fixed since launch maybe with a software update or hardware change by any chance?

I just bought it recently but with rtx 4090 and the fans made me scared, after 2 hours of playing with cooling pad the top of my laptop had almost the max temp of a tap water

Bought it few days ago for €2699. Most games 230 250 fps on ultra details. Temps are ok. Gpu 60-65°C cpu 75-85°C No coil whine but vents are loud. Doesn't matter for me. I use galaxy buds. Better loud vent then overheating 😂 TIP- if you get more then 90°C, lift the back of the laptop up. Immediately temps go 10°C down. More air goes to vents.

Can you say something about transparent A, C, D buttons? They stand out a lot and that's why they look terrible. At least on video. Tell me, is this really so?

Is there a 4060 variant that would hopefully run a bit cooler? I’ve got the gs66 stealth 10SE with the 2060 and that runs hotter than I’d like, but it’s quite a bit smaller than this so imagine thermals are better here

Instead of performance profiles, you can use nVidia control panel to set a frame rate cap and then adjust the game settings for heat/fan noise. Works well with my Legion laptop.

Absolutely. But MSI should still add a proper balanced profile for games where you want max CPU/GPU power to get ~90 FPS, like Starfield, Cyberpunk, etc.

Nada, hello, best regards! Perfect review, very detailed, thx! 87 on the GPU, is a way TOO hot, its thermal throttling, and cant handle 175w, only 159... This machine not for hard games, for a long time, for example, my GE 76 raider with 3070 Ti 150w, 70c at full load... Seems, its not for summer, too, at summer, it start throttling, during a short time of use. Dissapoint! 🤒 Cheers!

I use a cooler for my MSI Raider. Not sure how much worse cooling this one has.

Try capping the frame rate so when the game is not so demanding it can cool down a bit. The minimum frame rate will stay the same and use all the power, and a consistent frame rate looks better IMO. Also agree about the cooling stand/fan, but I don’t use them because I game on the TV with the laptop stood vertically with the screen partially opened (rests on front edge of keyboard like a tent).

Hey :) Remember the same heatpipes overlap the GPU and the CPU, so it's a shared cooling solution. It can easily handle 175 Watts in some other games where the CPU load is lower, I use Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 which is just very CPU and GPU heavy which pushes the GPU power draw down a little. It's not worse than the Raider for example, or all that different from other high-end laptops. I used a 17" Strix Scar with a 4090 recently and it did similar numbers.

Max cpu temp in 3D Mark on raider is 96. Max cpu temp in 3D Mark on vector is 91. Also average temp better on vector. I tested this by myself. So definitely vector will serve you much longer.

All high-end gaming laptops from every manufacturer this year, 2023, are like this.. High performance, high temperatures, low quality secondary parts such as camera, speakers and generally panels. Even the one of the most expensive ones such as Legion 9, Scar 18, Zephyrus M16, AW M16&M18, Raider, Helios etc... All has top drawer prices yet either have cheap cameras or speakers or something else. There's absolutely not a single model out there that checks every box. Always short comings. For instance they can upgrade the webcam and speakers on this one to the top-level primo ones and end-user price would shift no more than 100 bucks upwards, tops; more likely 40-50 dollar range.. If they kept Raiders 6 speaker setup on this one, it would add what like 20-30 bucks to the price... So why do the manufacturers does this on these high-end devices?

Cool and quiet, and very reasonable with maxing the hardware. Great camera, exceptional panels, great thermals etc unfortunately the price is high but totally worth it especially when you factor in the price of a desktop with similar quality hardware and peripherals. Upon release it was £4,600. Today they're £3,999
