I have deer and many other wildlife in my backyard all the time. I must say that my favorite encounter was having about 35 to 40 wild turkeys camp and have nest in my backyard for a while and I enjoy it everyday.

About a month ago I walked out on my back porch and less than 15 feet was a black bear standing there breaking my bird feeders. I didn't have time to get scared but was mad over the bird feeders. I yelled at it and off he went. Can't have the feeders out since.

Looks like an awesome area, evidently the moose like it. Your mushroom is Amanita muscaria, the fairy tale mushroom, nicknamed for it's oft included in fairy tale illustrations. The further west you go the redder they are. I've been fortunate to have several close encounters with moose while living outside Yellowstone. Even more exciting are my closer encounters with American Bison in Yellowstone and South Dakota. I'm talking within several feet as the bison choose to amble past our locations. Great footage and I'm flabbergasted that you did NOT know a species of water plant. Keep em coming, loving the footage.

I have been stupid close to bison in yellowstone as well. And uncomfortably close to grizzly while camping in the Tom minor basin, but moose had eluded me!

I lived in Alaska for three years, I seen moose every single day on base and off. The biggest one I have seen was by far the biggest live animal I had even seen on land in my life. His rack was at least 6 foot wide! No exaggeration. We have so many stories of the stuff we have seen and pictures that we took safely. Moose do have a way of getting themselves into a human's personal space very quickly. We also seen a couple of bears, whales, and porcupines. It is a magical place to see.

I’m glad you got to see Moose. When I lived in Maine, I was driving to what is fondly referred to as The County. It was during rut and I saw this moose along the side of I-95 (around Baxter State Park/ Allagash area), so I slowed down a bit. I didn’t want to hit him if he attempted to cross the interstate. Instead of crossing the interstate, he starting chasing my Jeep. He was a BIG moose. Needless to say, I hit the gas. Never trust a moose in rut!

Lordy What Fun!!! Such large animals moose are! Really envy your wonderful trips in the wilderness Rachel. Beautiful video footage as well. My head's in the water, you can't see me... 🤣. Greatly enjoyed my younger days camping. I hope you were able to find some orchids that were open!! They are such beauties in the wilds. 😘 I was spoiled growing up in the redwoods and on mouth of Klamath River, saw so much wildlife and plants. 🙂 Have a great one Rachel... 👍

It is so amazing to see my home through different eyes. Moose and Lady Slippers are old hat to me though I wish you could see a Lady Slipper in all their glory. And I feel you on those black flies, they are especially vicious in the Allagash! Sadly, winter tick populations are so bad that we lose a fair number of young calves to just being sucked dry. To another point, if you would like to talk with a Wildlife Biologist here in Maine, my mother-in-law works for Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, it would be really easy to find someone. Glad you enjoyed your trip!

Oh my gosh, so freakin cool!! Turk is amazing 😍 Growing up in upstate NY there was no shortage of wildlife encounters and watching these videos allows me to sort of live vicariously through you. How I’d LOVE to be in the forest with you!! I have two short stories about my favorite wildlife encounters. One night a friend and I were driving around late at night. Where I’m from many of the roads a couple of teenagers drive on are not paved and that night was no exception. We came upon 2 skunks in the road. My friend said, incredulously, they’re going to fight! Little did we know but soon realized they were actually wooing each other! They unabashedly did their thing right there in the middle of the road in front of us. We couldn’t believe we actually witnessed that! My other story is from a few years ago. I now live on the coast of NC and have a decent garden space going. A mamma and daddy Carolina Wren decided to set up house in one of my flower pots. It was incredible watching them tend to their chicks and finally getting to see them fledge. It was actually quite emotional watching them go. As always thanks for sharing your journeys and adventures with us 💜

My wife really wanted to see a moose on our trip to North Idaho and we were not disappointed. We saw a Cow with... a foal? from a good ways off grazing in the shallows of a smallish lake and then we woke up to another eating fruit from the tree in the backyard of the cabin we were stating in. They are truly majestic creatures.

I've canoed the Alagash many times in the spring. All of the bull moose I've encountered were very "chill", like the one at your campsite. The cows with calves usually had the hair on their backs standing up, and usually took off pretty quickly. I'll bet they'd be aggressive if you got too close to their calf.

Having camped in Allagash before, and being from up there, what you experienced is not uncommon to those who live in these environments. This is what I miss most of Northern Maine or as those in "The County" refer to it "The Valley." It is a beautiful experience that leaves you in awe and forever changed spiritually. So elated that you felt, smelled, heard and saw it in person. Girl, I've got goosebumps lol.

Mushroom at 8:08 looks like amanita muscaria :) It's a hallucinogenic mushroom. I've been a long time fan of yours and I was shocked to learn that you had to step back and focus on other things now. I had to take a break from the hobby myself and I'm getting back into it now. I'm so excited to see your new adventures and fish/shrimp you decide to keep. The book you co-wrote "101 Best Freshwater Nano Species" was extremely helpful in deciding what nano fish I could keep. Thanks for the talks in the fish room over the years.

I live near the Allagash in Millinocket, right near Baxter State Park. Moose CAN be dangerous, but in general theyre a nuisance, lol. Since theyre so large they arent afraid of anything, including vehicles, so there are areas you REALLY need to watch out for them. Im an avid fisherman and travel up and down the Golden Road daily to fish the West Branch of the Penobscot River. In the spring I might encounter 30 or more Moose in 30 miles. When theyre standing in the road not moving, theyre annoying, lol. Most of the time theyre harmless. The only time I worry about one charging is in the fall during hunting season when the moose are in the rut (breeding season). That time of year you want to steer from them. In general though, they are all absolutely unphased by our presence and couldnt care less about you standing there and photographing them.
