I am guessing you are not a musician. Most non-musicians won't acknowledge there was any good music after the year they were about 20 years old, regardless of what year that was. I am a musician and an absolute sponge for new and great music, and like in ANY decade, there is no shortage of it. And it has never been easier to find. Almost every musician I know is frequently finding new music and sharing with me, or very receptive to what I share with them. The 80s was the music of your teens, which makes it YOUR music in a way, but it does not make it BETTER music. Like any decade, the 80s had tons of great music, and also boatloads of trash.
@nope-z5y
@nope-z5y Ай бұрын
@idubzh243 your artists are my artists too. I love that stuff! But I'm also open to new stuff, and I know that we musicians did not suddenly stop knowing how to play in 1988. Your examples of New Order etc are ironic, as they relied heavily on computers (sequencers)

@@nope-z5y Your theory can't explain why there are so many comments on 80's videos of people born after 2000 who write the same, that the 80's had the best music ever?
@nope-z5y
@nope-z5y 27 күн бұрын
@@PaulBreitner-zm3ck They are a tiny fraction, compared to the amount of nostalgic X-ers pining for their youth. For most people, the reason these songs are "better" is that the listener associates them with a great or important time of their life. Ask a (non-musician) boomer. There was no one greater than Elvis and the Beatles and everything after is nonsense. Musicians tend to have open ears and will always find great music regardless of the year it was written.

Love the music of the 80s. It was a great soundtrack for my high school, college, and first couple years of medical school. At least half of these songs are in my music library and still get regular play. I still remember meeting women at parties in college and feeling the connection when I realized they were interested while dancing to Let the Music Play or Obsession. Then the slow dance that followed…feeling a little lightheaded from the combination of a potential new love, cheap beer, and the fumes from hair spray or mousse…thank you for this nostalgic trip down memory lane. (Although none of those meetings ended in marriage, most of them ended in amicable friendships and we are still connected via social media to this day.)

When I was young (55 now), I would buy an artist's album (cassette back then) ONLY if I liked at least 3 of the songs on that album. I bought their Broadcast album and now I have 9 of their 10 songs on that album on my Spotify favorites list. It is one of my favorite all-time albums of 80's pop, second only to The Outfield (multiple albums) and Benjamin Orr's "The Lace". A truly underrated band in my book.

I remember Quarterflash well!! Their original name was Seafood Mama. My sister and I used to watch them play in the clubs in Portland, Oregon. We also used to watch Nu Shooz. I thought for sure that they would be on this list with their song, I Can't Wait. It was a HUGE hit in the clubs before it was ever cut as a record!! Good memories!! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I never dreamed that my clubbing in the late 70's through the 80's would one day turn into AARP and Social Security!!! 🤣🤣🤣 We were so cool 😎 back 🔙 then. Getting old was NEVER a thought in our minds!! 🤦‍♀️

Born in 1970, turned 10 in 1980, turned 20 in 1990; all of my music was late 50's, 60's, 70's in real time, and 80's as a teen. Most music for me ended then. I have found particular bands but not straight-up love across styles since then. Let's see if music, collectively, returns to real music.

I hate these countdowns when the writers aren't really sure what "one-hit wonder" means. Animotion, Murray Head, Martika, Eddie Murphy, Don Johnson (duet w/ Barbara Streisand), Quarterflash, and Cutting Crew all had at least one other top 30 hit in the US. Just because the author isn't really aware of that fact doesn't mean the performer suddenly becomes a one-hit wonder.
@oysteinsoreide4323
@oysteinsoreide4323 Ай бұрын
agree. And also. Many of these were no wonders at all in my opinion. There are many much better hits than the ones presented here. But I don't have the energy to make the compilation though.

Well that even admitted with Animotion that they had other hits. Room To Move went to #9. But one hit wonder has lost all meaning. And Dexy's had several hits in the UK.

I was born in 1982 and i have 5 older siblings, my big sisters used to listen to all these tracks and more. The 80s was a very vibrant,fun and very diverse in choice of genre. I remember Baltimora aka Jimmy McShane and the song Tarzan Boy is forever ingrained in my memory thanks to one of my big sisters playing the 45 on her Fidelity record player which had a wee arm repeat selector and it played and repeat, played and repeat all day long for what felt like forever 😂😂....great times growing up in that decade 😊
