Sweet Caroline has a bitter sweet connection with me. My dad always played this on road trip in our childhood form our home town to the state capital 760+ kilometres. He has been gone 14 now. May year later mum and I sang and danced to this at our local 'october fest' and I dedicated it to him at my wedding, dancing it with my 2 siblings, their spouse's, my four nephews and niece and my brand new hubby and mum of course. We belted it out. we had a ball.

@@buddybangs9445 What victims? The ones that claim they were his victims keep changing their stories every decade or so, making their claims sus. Pretty sure one of their fathers was caught on tape hashing out how he was going to ruin MJ's career by drugging up his own kid and getting the kid to accuse MJ of violating him, just so the father had groind to sue him for a huge pay day. And that joke of a documentary involving those three 'victims' was largely debunked. Seriously, my BS meter went through the roof when I heard one of his 'victims' kept the ring MJ (his supposed abuser) gave him in a secret wedding they had when the 'victim' was 11. Added cringe was that the supposed victim throws that ring into a fire in that 'documentary' as a way of saying goodbye to his abuser. Who watches that and doesn't see that as orchestrated/overdramatic hogwash?

20. YES. That's my fave pop song ever. Always makes me super happy. 19. Dancing Queen. Meh. It's a good song but not a smile maker for me. 18. Mister Blue Sky. All the ingredients are there but meh. 17. I Want You Back. YES. That song is pure musical happiness straight from my early childhood in the 1970's. Makes me want to hop around like a toddler. 16. Uptown Funk. YES. Instant classic. As in, it was showing up on classic rock stations a year and a half after it was released. It's like the entire 70's condensed into one song. 15. I Feel Good. Yes... ish. It's not the song's fault but it's been WAY overused. 14. Happy. Meh. Great song but it's trying too hard for my GenX tastes. 13. Sweet Caroline. Great chorus but not really my cuppa. Too MOR. 12. Here Comes The Sun. YES. I have a vivid memory of lying on the living room floor in a sunbea, listening to this song when I was tiny. The warmth in his voice can still make me happy-cry. 11. My Girl. YES, despite overuse. It's just such a mood. So smooth and rich and deep and bright that it's like a vitamin shot to the soul. 10. Three Little Birds. Also not my cuppa, but the lyrics are joyful. 9. Waka Waka. No thanks. Still disappointed it's not by Fozzy the Bear. 8. Move On Up. Doesn't do anything for me. Sorry. 7. You Can Call Me Al. YES. That whole album is gold. But this song is the banger hit. 6. Don't Stop Till You Get Enough. I can't argue with the funkiness of the instrumentation but for whatever reason, I have never cared for this song. The falsetto might be the culprit. 5. Wouldn't It Be Good. Hard to pick one Beach Boys song, but YES, this one, because of the sweet innocent idealism in the lyrics. This song made surfers think about stuff, man. 4. Celebration. YES. Still one of the greatest party songs ever. Instant party wherever it plays. 3. September. Eh. It's very good but not quite a smile-maker for me. 2. Don't Worry Be Happy. You've got to be freaking kidding me. Sorry, but I was THERE when this song was a global hit and it STILL irritates me. HM : You Make My Dreams. YES. No other song bops like this one. 1. For me the song "I will Survive" definitely makes me smile because it is like a theme song for me. I have survived a lot of different things in my life as I am sure most people have. We have all had something in our lives that we have survived not just a bad relationship but life in general.

I always smile when I hear, "I'd like to teach the world to sing" by The New Seakers. As well as "Lincoln Park Pirates" by Steve Goodman. All the songs you mentioned also make me smile.

Just my own choices for this list- Fight Song by Rachel Platten, Heaven is a Place on Earth by Belinda Carlisle, Sugar Sugar by the Archies (biased choice because it is my wife and my wedding song). What do others think of my choices??

40 years ago l was a lonely nurse in a new little town called Winner. I picked up a radio station asking for requests so l called and ended up getting a station in New York. A long way from South Dakota but they played Wake Me UP from Wham but they said l was from Winter. I just laughed and as the song played, the station faded from my radio.

"Sweet Caroline" has been on the playlist at the Hong Kong Rugby 7s tournament for the past 30 years. Listening to/joining in with 40,000 people belting it out, even in the pouring rain, is truly something to behold.

I played Dancing Queen at my Boyfriend's Funeral. It even brought a smile to everyone who knew him. Mr. Bluesky was played in the 2012 London Olympics. Right before Always Look.On The Brights6Of Life.
