Disney’s versions of Hercules and Megara have one of the most epic romances I’ve ever seen. Meg literally sacrifices her life to save Herc’s life and Herc literally gives up immortality and GODHOOD just to be with her. How can you not swoon? Also, I Won’t Say I’m In Love is a top 10 Disney song.

Ironically, it’s more flattering than the actual Greek myth, since Hercules kills Megara and his children. What’s worse is that Hercules committed murder because his mother Hera drove him mad due to how much she hated him being the product of Zeus’ affair with another woman. Unlike the Disney movie, Hera was petty, vindictive, abusive, and jealous.

Meg and Hercules are literally ride or die lovers. Hercules' sincerity and gentle attitude completely changes Meg's cynical and jaded disposition. Which is what makes their chemistry and relationship work so well. Outside of Hercules, every other man Meg interacts with (Nessus, Phil, Hades) very clearly show no respect for her personal space or body. Between Hades constantly groping Meg and pull her face into contact with his, Phil ogling at Meg's body and then signaling for her to kiss him, or Nessus sexually harassing her and trying to force his lust on her, those experiences just reinforce Meg's opinion of men being scummy. None of those guys had any regard for Meg as an individual. Add that to the fact that her first love abandoned her after she sold her soul to save his life, and it is quite understandable why Meg initially comes off snarky, sassy, and kinda unapproachable. Then there's Hercules who has (as Meg put it) an "innocent farmboy" persona to him. He's naive, clumsy, kind, and genuine. Meg even told Hades (after falling for Hercules) that Hercules is honest, sweet, and wouldn't ever do anything to hurt her. Hercules being the tenderhearted guy he is restores Meg's faith in pursuing love.

I love their relationship so much. Meg is jaded and heartbroken, and technically a villain, but she falls for this innocent jock demigod with a heart of gold. And in the end he chooses her over everything else that he thought he wanted. It’s such a beautiful story.

She would have never hurt Hercules by her own free will and even gave up her own life for his. She’s kinda more of a hero.

@@carolinadiza4571 I'd say it's accurate to call Meg a villain. She is allied with the main villain of the movie and does actively help him in his plans. With that said, she's an "anti-villain". Meg is working as a subordinate of the primary antagonist of the film, but she clearly isn't an evil individual, nor does she have any malicious intent. She can be described as cynical, cold, and even selfish because she's really only doing things for her own personal gain initially. However, her goal isn't villainous by any means, as she's just trying to obtain her freedom back and just be left alone. As you said, Meg was a pretty good-hearted individual originally, until she became jaded by the experience of having her own selfless act bite her in the ass unfortunately. Her romance with Hercules essentially leads to her redemption as she once again willingly sacrifices her life for the person she loves. Hades himself even states that his plans failed because Meg "had to go all noble". Hercules' pure heart, innocence, and honesty didn't just restore Meg's faith in pursuing love, it also allowed her more heroic and passionate characteristics resurface after she buried those qualities of hers under a cynical, bitter, snarky, and sassy exterior. Like Meg can be classified as a villain because she does obey Hades and conspire against Hercules. But she also doesn't have any heinous ulterior motives and is simply tempted by Hades dangling the hope of winning her freedom back if she complies with his orders. She's a sympathetic and tragic figure, making her an "anti-villain" type of villain for most of the film until her redemption where she returns to being more heroic.

Except Ariel does get her voice back much to Eric’s delight, so yes, she needed to talk to make the relationship work! In fact, Eric said earlier to Ariel at the beach that she couldn’t be who he thought she was because she was mute. Ouch! Unsurprisingly, Eric ditched the mute Ariel to marry the verbal Vanessa because her voice happened to sound like Ariel’s. Granted, Eric was hypnotized into marrying Vanessa via her singing voice, but it showed how his obsession with finding his “singing mystery girl” nearly caused him to marry the sea witch in disguise. The “GoodTimes Entertainment” mockbuster of “The Little Mermaid” does a much better job conveying the message of “love without needing to talk” by having the human prince Stefan marry the permanently mute little mermaid Marina. Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” portrays Ariel’s muteness as temporary, which sadly has some unfortunate implications about fixing disability. It would’ve been better if Ariel was permanently mute and had to learn to deal with her inability to talk like learning sign language.

I was thinking about one couple that i was expecting in 1st place and i got it right. I still remember the first time i saw Tangled back in 2010. In the movie, Rapunzel and Flynn’s relationship is this wonderful, heartfelt story where they both grow together, and they make sacrifices for one another. The whole point of their love was that they both saw each other for who they really were, flaws and all, and accepted each other completely. Flynn was willing to die for her at the end of the movie because he knew exactly how much she meant to him. And Rapunzel, in turn, chose him and chose freedom, a love she had never known. They were two people who learned from each other and complemented each other, making their love feel real and strong. But the series completely reverses this, and it destroys what made them such a strong couple in the first place. In the series, Rapunzel isn’t just ignoring Flynn-she’s treating him with this weird, passive disregard, like he’s not important. She lets Cassandra-her supposed best friend-belittle him, and instead of defending him, she just stands there. It’s as though Flynn’s feelings and emotions are secondary to Rapunzel’s, which is absolutely toxic. It’s baffling and, frankly, it just hurts to see her treat Flynn this way. The character arc that worked so well in the movie is completely discarded for the sake of drama in the series, and it doesn’t feel authentic to the characters or their original dynamic. The Problem with the "Rejecting Marriage" Plotline The whole marriage rejection plotline is one of the worst things the series did to the relationship, and it makes zero sense when compared to the movie. In Tangled, Rapunzel’s willingness to give up everything for Flynn, including her freedom, was a powerful moment. She loved him deeply, and that was part of the movie’s central theme: love is about selflessness and compromise. It wasn’t about her giving up everything, but rather that she was willing to face a new life, a new future with him, even if it meant the unknown. Then, in the series, suddenly Rapunzel doesn’t want to marry him? She treats marriage like it’s some sort of prison, even after she almost lost him in the movie. It’s like the show wants to tell little girls that marriage is a "trap" when, in reality, that couldn’t be further from the truth. The fact that Rapunzel keeps rejecting Flynn’s proposals, knowing full well how much he loves her and how much she loves him, just doesn’t make sense. It’s not a healthy relationship when one person is so clearly not on the same page as the other. Relationships require compromise from both sides, but in this case, Flynn is constantly the one who has to bend and change. That’s not fair to him, and it’s not fair to any real-life relationship either. The idea that marriage is a "prison" or something negative, especially when they’re so deeply in love, is a dangerous message. It teaches kids that love and commitment are burdens, rather than something beautiful and life-affirming. And it sets unrealistic expectations for relationships. If you love someone, the natural progression is to want to be with them for the long term, including marriage. Rejecting someone’s proposal multiple times just shows they’re not on the same page, and honestly, that’s when a relationship should be reevaluated. It’s heartbreaking to see Rapunzel treat Flynn this way because, in the movie, their love was so pure and mutual. But here, Flynn’s wishes and feelings seem to matter so little, and that’s not a healthy dynamic at all. Why Rapunzel’s Actions Are Toxic Rapunzel’s behavior in the series is toxic. She’s passive, inconsiderate, and at times, outright mean to Flynn. She does things that are disrespectful-like drawing his face on a punching bag for Cassandra-without any acknowledgment of how hurtful that would be to him. It’s not something she’d do in the movie. It’s like the series wanted to make her "strong" or "independent," but they did it in the worst possible way-by making her selfish and unkind, which is completely the opposite of what made her a great character in the first place. relationships where one person is always the one compromising and giving in can’t work. Flynn deserves better than to constantly be the one who’s expected to be okay with things Rapunzel doesn’t agree with. It’s just not fair to him, and it creates a dynamic that’s unhealthy. No one wants to feel like their needs are being ignored in a relationship, and Flynn constantly being forced to let Rapunzel have her way, even when it means his feelings are hurt, is just... wrong. Why This Isn’t Healthy or Realistic This kind of dynamic is not healthy, and it definitely shouldn’t be promoted, especially to kids. The idea that relationships should be a constant struggle where one person is always "giving in" to make the other happy doesn’t work in the real world. If both people aren’t truly committed to each other and equally invested, then the relationship is bound to fail. Kids watching this might think that relationships are about letting one person always get what they want, and that’s just not true. Relationships are about compromise, respect, and working together, and that’s not what we see in Tangled: The Series. What Disney Should Have Done What Disney should have done is keep the integrity of the characters from the movie and not force unnecessary drama into their relationship just to fill a TV series plot. They should have taken the time to explore their post-movie life in a way that felt authentic and true to who they were as people in the movie. Instead of writing Rapunzel as someone who pushes Flynn aside and treats him poorly, the series could have focused on them growing together in their new roles as a couple, building their life together as they face new challenges. That’s the story we wanted to see. Not one where they’re constantly at odds, not one where Flynn is belittled and Rapunzel is emotionally detached.

Reading the comment I feel like I'm the only thinking Pocahontas and John Smith had great chemistry too. They learn a lot from each other, and he becomes better thanks to her.
