I come from a developing country. My uncle, when he was younger, caught polio and was partially paralyzed. He still walks with a limp, dragging his right foot or using a crutch. This is so irresponsible. Those of us who came after were able to get the vaccine, but my older uncle would not have had this issue had he had the initial protection. It's irresponsible.

Damage from polio is not reversible… whatever damage she had remained. Physical therapy can be administered to strengthen the parts that remain, but he must not have had a severe case. I heard that he had you are right. These guys seem to be universes exception to the rule. The rule being even amoeba when they get jaded by something that sharp causes them to repel and move away, these guys gravitate towards the things that are going to destroy us. No wonder there are strange lights in the sky …The Universe is saying “…we gotta watch these people destroy themselves!”.

@@richardleirer Polio Myelitis has been eradicated in the US (does that constitute a reduction in your mind?) thanks to mandated pediatric vaccinations started two years subsequent to Dr. Salk’s publication in the Journal of the AMA in 1953. Years of human suffering prior to the vaccine attest to the prevalence of the infection.

My Dad is 85 and had polio at 12 years old. He's now dealing with Post-Polio Syndrome which is making him incredibly weak and always exhausted and in pain. Polio is no joke and the man with a brain worm can step off.

You can end up with counterfeits. It would be important to learn how well vaccines are being handled before making the choice. You can vilify them for not being Exceptional Americans. The problem is that schools will not require vaccines, once MAGA gets power. Vaccination rates for childhood diseases will drop from 95% to maybe 70%, as the Republican faithful opt out. Well below herd immunity level. So massive outbreaks of measles, whooping cough, diphtheria, etc, etc. Every literal plague will return. And unaliving children by the thousand, if they continue, the million. And god help us all if there is a new Covid pandemic. The Trump government won't do a thing to stop the spread, won't invest in new vaccines.

The Sulk Polio Vaccine became available in 1955. I remember my grandmother and great aunt taking my sister and me to get the vaccine to protect us from this deadly disease. I remember lines of people waiting for the vaccine shot it was so needed. The devastating effects of polio can’t be overstated.

My mother had polio the year before the vaccine was released. She was fine one day, the next she was ill with polio. She was eventually able to walk again but 2 of her friends died. She always considered the vaccine a miracle and always volunteered at our schools when the vaccine was given. She also walked door to door for March of Dimes. What is wrong with the nuts that want to turn back the clock to a time when so many died because of illnesses that have now been all but wiped out in the US? No wonder foreigners think we've gone crazy.

That is terrifying. My 10 year old cousin get sick on a Friday and was dead on Monday. My best friend had polio as a child. She was away from her family, but got better. She has some physical problems left from it but she's worked hard to be ok. Polio Vaccines are a must!

Im old enough to have visited hospital wards full of iron lungs - patients committed to living out their lives in the iron lungs often, ultimately abandoned by family unable / unwilling to visit their relatives in iron lungs.

How did you get into an iron lung ward. It was a highly contagious disease, and even parents were not allowed there. My brother got it in 1954, and wasn't even in an iron lung, but even our parents couldn't even visit him until two months after he was admitted.

All of the routine vaccines are extremely safe. Better than the disease isn't good enough. None of these cause asthma. They can have severe effects, but it's so seldom your doctor probably won't see it in their entire career. Politicians don't mention the real ones because they're mostly allergies.

MADNESS!!! My parents grew up at a time when a lot of people, including children, died of infectious diseases we rarely hear about these days. When I was young, the big scares were polio and tuberculosis. It's vaccines that have alleviated these diseases. I was vaccinated for TB and was among the first cohorts to receive the oral polio vaccine. I also recall an older kid in my school, who was confined to a wheelchair with polio and when there were a lot of people living in iron lungs, because they couldn't breathe on their own.
