Amazing indeed. Raw material purchased for 100 dollars and with 45% of costs is sold for 145.00 dollars. With a 10% extraordinary rate, it is sold for $159.50. Conclusion after tariff, the consumer pays more to the state 10.00 dollars and to the seller 4.5 dollars. Another 14.5 dollars for the consumer. 100 + 45% = 145.00 100 + 10% + 45% = 159.50

What he didn't talk about is how Tariffs make it so that people are less inclined to buy a product from China now that it costs the same as one made in America. This keeps the money here instead of sending it abroad meaning more money in our economy. More and more companies have been outsourcing their production to cheap labor countries. They will now be more inclined to move production back to America when customers aren't willing to pay the extra costs that Tariffs cause. Keeping our money here instead of sending it to a foreign adversary. 😅

The thing to remember about the analogy by Lawrence here is that- if Best Buy are now buying TVs for $1,500 rather than $1,000 almost certain they will be selling them at an even higher than 50% markup so that the consumers pays even more than we are discussing.

The IMPORTER is on the hook for the tariffs cost. Exporter sends item costing $100. US Customs Agency sees the importer looking for that item, looks at program on computer, sees 25% tariffs. Importer pays $125. Customer of importer pays $148 for that item BECAUSE the importer puts a profit percentage on everything they sell.
