Mike, wow! What an excellent video! 1. When I saw the title Group By, I was thinking of skipping the entire video as there is not much new that can be said about group by - that is what I thought. Then, I checked out the notes and found the mention of 'All Rows' intriguing. It has been a few years since I have first tried PQ when it was an add-in for Excel 2013. I have never realized that I could programatically manipulate the filtered records so easily in PQ. So, I decided to watch the video - Another wow! What a wonderful set of examples that made me feel "I need to really try this to really understand this at a deeper level". I am amazed at ingenious design of the concept of a cell in PQ that it can hold a list or table and we can recursively work on it - This is the first material new info for me about PQ in these many years, except for what I have learnt on my own by exploration. And you sparked my curiosity to learn 'M' which so far I ignored as I felt that it would not give me enough ROI for time invested in learning it, given that so much is possible through mouse-clicks! 2. Returning a comma-separated list of unique values is a very hard job in any BI tool. Glad to have CONCATENATEX in DAX and List.Combine in PQ - Wow !

If you learn a lot of new things in this video, you are NOT going to believe the next few videos culminating in video #9 : ) : ) I am so glad that these videos help. I just wish i could figure out how to point more people to these videos because for free content, they seem to just sort of languish with a few views here and there, but just never take off and reach all of the many people who would just LOVE to get free content like this... I really appreciate your support with your thoughtful and intriguing comments and Thumbs Ups on each video : )

@@excelisfun Thanks Mike for sharing your concern that these videos are not reaching many people. Let me watch the entire MSPTDA series and then give you some ideas on how to take these videos to more people. The problem is that the commercial packages do a lot of marketing and in their noise, some of the very good free stuff gets drowned out.

@@excelisfun I've taught a few intermediate Excel trainings for my agency and I always include a link and a promo to your videos in the class. I know that some have watched it. I think, though, that material like this tends to be for people who specialize in data analysis which is a smaller sub-set of workers. World Class Series, Mike, beautiful and instructive. Also, thanks for pointing out that although the PQ interface is really helpful and lowers the M-learning curve by a lot, it is not perfect and most definately not complete. So, the place-holder-swap technique comes in handy to deal with the obligatory syntax constraint. And finally: Yes, the MS taxonomy of M-functions is a good browser short cut to have at hand. See you on the next one.

Here is my analysis... Its true that Many wants to learn this kind of content ...But the REAL ISSUE is something different, let me elaborate... Say in 100 people....60 people aren't even aware of Power Query and DAX (Vlookup is the end of their Excel).... and among the left 40 ... they are split the in the following way 30 people are little aware of the PQ and DAX, they wish to learn, but they don't push themselves to learn, which demands individual to come out of their comfort zone and requires mental efforts....... they resort to doing things in the same OLD usual way.... Also, there isn't time for them to experiment with new tools..... What they really lack is the DETERMINATION.....They prefer individual class, rather than online classes (online classes hasn't picked up yet in India )... Conclusion : This will only change when certain people around with PQ and DAX skills display it's true power.... Final 10 people , who are really determined to learn whatsoever, are the ones who are DIE HARD FANS of this CHANNEL... Conclusion : When PQ and DAX gains popularity ... This channel will be "THE FAVOURITES" among the list.

Thanks for the Analysis. I think you are correct. I will add one more point: most humans want a quick fix, and that is not what I teach, I teach the fix, the how to, the fun, and the whys, and the concepts behind it all... Most humans in the world don't have the determination (as you say) and the desire to know why. Even in my classes at Highline College, most just want to get through and pass and don't care about the whys, concepts and the hard work needed to gain the true knowledge. Thank you very much, RRR, for taking the time to support this channel : )

Well, after several attempts managed to type it all in from scratch, still haven't got my head around using the [sales] for standard deviation rather than the 'new' [Total Sales] but it's sinking in , slowly. Thankyou once again.

Tremendous video, Mike. I figured I could use this feature because I have some experience in Access - it is not the same. I was getting frustrated trying to use this feature. I think you have shown me how to use it. I love the “All Rows” feature. I am trying to use the Count feature, but the field list to count always seems empty. I am not sure why. Thank you again for your in-depth knowledge and skill. ❤😊

Thank you for these amazing presentations! An interesting challenge for anyone:GroupBy Minimum in a new column "min_Group" but retain all other original rows and enter NULL in column "min_Group". There must be a better way but this is how I managed it: created "unique_KEY" in original table, created second table with Minimum per Group, then merged both tables by "unique_KEY".Works, but there has to be a faster method using only one table. I guess creating a function column? Thanks!

If Milke or anyone reads this and can offer help pleas do so, I took this a stage further and grouped by total sales, the problem is then extracting 'who sold what ' for the tied position, even though I use {"who sold what " , each Text.Combine( List.Distinct( [who sold what] ), ", " )} it treats each returns a distinct for Quad and a distinct for Sunshine, which of course means duplicates when you join them together, is there a way around this?

I am short of words to explain how much i have enjoyed this video and how much like PQ now thanks to you. One question though regarding the ranking problem. The number goes 1 , 2, 2 , 4 instead of 1,2,2,3. Isn't it wrong or m i missing something?
