In 2011 Vermont experienced massive flooding. On the Adventure Cycling tour; The Green Mountain Loop, I was as wet as I ever want to be. But it's also happens to be the tour that brings back the most memories, many funny, some awful, but all cherished.
Using the camera was nearly impossible. Electronics don't do well in the rain and most days tended to be grey with everyone trying to get to the next destination before the rain started.
On the day of this video, the sky had been threatening to open-up the whole ride. This night, as I finished setting up my tent, the rain came down in a deluge. I jumped inside not caring about anything except staying as dry as I could.
With all the equipment in the tent... I thought, 'screw it, I'm good'....The wet and cold 60 mile plus day had taken a toll on my spirit. I began to cuss myself out, for forgetting my water bottles on the bike, when it dawned on me, I could collect water from the tent with my cook set.
I started thinking about that show Survivor Man (what would Les do?), with a chuckle I began filming my own little episode
The video though, shows how the MSR Hubba, along with the connecting gear shed, kept out the rain. Unlike many on the tour, I had no issues with water seepage for the entire trip, even in extremely windy conditions the MSR held up.
The gear shed's a great addition to the Hubba, really increasing space. Without it, all of my gear would have most likely been soaked through. My only complaint is, it's equipped with only a partial floor. I wasn't happy with that so before the trip I cut a heavy duty trash bag into the shape, duct taped the corners and added a few holes to stake it if necessary. It was the cheapest solution for keeping my feet out of the dirt or in this case out of the mud.
