Join us as we take the plunge into the old days for us and show newcomers the easiest way to take their ready to run cars and get into doors at their local track!
We spent a total of $48 of our $50 week two budget acquiring a Scale Reflex rear ESC mount kit and Reve-D as014 tires to change our front/rear weight bias and get closer in our overall tune for our home track and smooth concrete surface. Great success and progress made in week two. Drop us a comment below if you have any helpful tips you'd suggest to a newcomer!
Stay tuned for more to come from Project Get DOORS.

Awesome to hear and welcome Michael. I would say for you having building experience with the scale truck you May want to venture into building a kit and hand selecting electronics and using your trail truck radio (possibly) as you can do better then this little RTR in doing so.

I love this series. I am considering getting into RC drifting. I have been sim drifting in forza for over 10 years. Absolutely love drifting. Can decide between going all out for a D5 or this MST RTR to cut my teeth. Can’t wait for next week’s installment. Keep up the great content- cheers

I mean, for overall cost and what you get, don’t think it’s fair to be mad. Well worth the cost and it’s a great hobby to become a part of. Better then leaving $200 in ammo spent and unuseable, or thousands of dollars for real tires for a real drift car I’ll never use again.. pay to play, but all in all the cheapest way to get your slide on.

Looking very smooth for an RTR, what is your floor surface and surface preparation? I have an rtr with a few minor modifications, I'm trying to get the correct tire for it.
@ScaleScience
@ScaleScience 2 жыл бұрын
Polished concrete to 1500grit, burnished with 3000 grit, it has a densifier and dye we treated the surface with between the 400 and 800 grits.
@ScaleScience
@ScaleScience 2 жыл бұрын
And we use no surface prep we just sweep the floor. No wax, no additives nothing besides keep it clean.

Slap a futaba gyd 450 or 550 gyro in it and pair it with a futaba radio. Stock gyro is ok, but futaba is awsome in comparison🥰
@ScaleScience
@ScaleScience 2 жыл бұрын
While I agree 100% that the Futaba stuff is awesome and a large improvement over stock, a proper radio and 550 gyro will cost more then most would pay for their entire RTR and is likely not a modification the average Joe would perform this early on. We are planning to showcase utilizing a higher end gyro/servo/radio in some future episodes though. Just taking a guess too that a radio upgrade would allow us better control over the stock MST gyro but at this point still trying to push the stock stuff to its limit.

Would the top motor configuration be better for body roll and grip while in drift? Or no. ( still a noob )
@ScaleScience
@ScaleScience 2 жыл бұрын
Body roll yes, grip.. sometimes yes sometimes no in my experience. We are looking to test the outcome of exactly this in a future episode of this series. Stay tuned for that too! If you get bored in the meantime, try it for yourself but ensure you don’t overtighten the 3 bolts that travel though the transmission case. That’s a common issue I see that usually causes a transmission failure and I’m my opinion is the reason why the RMX transmission caught such a bad rep.

After doing a beginners mst car do a beginners yd2 car then at the end compare them both
@ScaleScience
@ScaleScience 2 жыл бұрын
Just off the top you get a lot more car upfront for your money in an rtr MST vs. the ARTR Yd2. The YD is over $100 more with brushed (mst has brushless) electronics. Mst also comes with the finished (painted and mostly detailed) body, wheels and tires and the same entry level remote but does come with a junk stick battery you’d replace in the long run too. Driving wise a stock e platform would never drive this well. Now if yok made their RTR from an S or a Z kit, that might be a worthy competitor in our eyes. Believed me we talked at length about just this matchup but there’s a good reason why you see 25-30 or more rtr mst’s sold for every 1 Yd2 rtr.
