IIRC there was at least one (The Sword and the Dragon ?) that was a Soviet/Swedish co-production and The Day the Earth froze is based on a Finnish tale, but otherwise they are more Russian (or rather Soviet considering the time period when they were produced) than Scandinavian. Still some enjoyable episodes, the movies are interesting and have quite the production values.

I don't even know where to begin with this damn movie, and its three spiritual predecessors. It's the silliest, goofiest, weirdest, and yet most competent of all MST3k films ever made, and the riffing only enhances how unusual the experience is. It should go without saying that it made for one of the show's top episodes. "Oh, you're a real magician!" "Now start runnin', shroom!" Not to mention that _Forrest Gump_ reference...

These Russian fantasy films were among the most well-made films on the show. They're still goofy as hell, between the budgets, technology, and cultural barriers.
@HEDGE10114 жыл бұрын
All your points are well taken...but I think “Marooned” is probably the most technically competent MST3K, though it’s nowhere near as enjoyable to watch as “Jack Frost” or the other films with insanely goofy concepts.
@steealconwyrick19994 жыл бұрын
@@HEDGE1011 Fair enough. I mean, _Marooned_ DID win an Oscar for visual effects and also got cinematography and sound nominations to boot. If it weren’t for the edit called _Space Travelers_ being created, I don’t think MST3k would have ever tackled it. Plus, both versions are ridiculously boring, so I think I understand why they slipped under my radar.
@HEDGE10114 жыл бұрын
@@steealconwyrick1999 I completely agree! It’s one of my least favorite MST episodes because it’s so tedious. It’s surely one of Hackman’s worst performances. I’m quite interested in the Apollo program AND bad movies and can almost not get through it. On the other hand I love “Jack Frost” with all the insane characters (e.g. Father Mushroom, etc.) and the crazy plot points (“Where’s my dowry?!?”) [Edited for grammar.]

@@losttribe3001 well I was reading a book called "The Girl Who Could Speak Bear". Basically a book inspired by slavic folktales and culture. The main part is the family being cursed to become a bear. Craziest thing was when I was watching an old video where vinny of vinesauce played Use Your Words, a clip from this movie was in it too. Fate is freaking weird
