A beautiful classic Joe Raposo song that was yanked. I remember watching this in the early 70's after I got home from kindergarten. The part that stuck out in my memory back then is when she touched the top of the goat's sharp horn. When this was filmed (I'm guessing around 1971), I was about the age of that little kid with the hat that was shown 50 seconds into the film, during the line "..don't be shy...).

Unfortunately, he had lymphoma aged 51. (18990 days from 8 February, 1937 - 5 February, 1989) He was a man that was pushing 52.

mstatz, thanks again for this wonderful echo of my childhood. I was born in '72, but I remember these clips as I grew. Good times, when worries were few, and the days seemed so long...

This is my all-time favorite Sesame Street video - and song by Joe Raposo. There is nothing this genuinely sweet and wonderful being made now. Thank you so much for posting it!

Mstatz, thanks for the memories! There was a clip with seahorses that had a beautiful Joe Raposo instrumental that sounded dreamlike. Joe wrote the most wonderful melodies that still gives me a smile. I hope one day someone chooses to release this great mans' material.

There is a husband and wife couple from my home town and they have been friends with my parents for over 45 years. They still live there. The wife is the first cousin of none other than Joe Raposo! She showed me pictures of her kids (2 daughters) sitting next to Uncle Joe. I grew up and went to school with her kids. Interesting, isn't it?

Both this and "Somebody Come and Play" have similar sounds. It's a sad, melancholy tone, even though it's a sweet song.

I don't think Joe could have written a bad song if he tried.. when you think that man had over 3000 songs the he had written recorded and used some where, for tv, for movies, by Frank Sinatra.. he was truly a GIANT

Although it was 35 years ago, I'm pretty sure it was the noon showing. I do remember in the mid 80's when I collected (video taped) all these segments, I would record the 4:00 pm showing of the show. If I missed a segment or was late on it, I would remember when it was showed then record it the following morning around 7:00 am. They repeated the previous day's episode the next morning. It was a great feeling knowing I had a second chance to record the segment I wanted.

@ISNorden I don't remember if I noticed it myself or if someone here pointed it out, but that long, lingering shot at the end where the camera stays for a while on him going inside his building----that was so clearly done for a reason. By showing rather than telling, it was meant to demonstrate to the audience that he doesn't need any help----he can open his own doors, thank you very much. =)

According to the Sesame Street episode guide, that's the E.K.A (earlier known appearance.) Considering it's that old it's unlikely it aired earlier. However I wouldn't be surprised if they're wrong about certain clips that they say appears in the 6th or 7th or 8th season when in fact they may be earlier (like "Horses" for example; I believer it 1s aired in the 4th season but according to the episode guide it's 1st down appearance is in episode 729; half way through he 6th season.) I think they're also wrong about at least one of the Pinball number count series. But the EKA of this clip seems to check out.

I don't know what exactly you're looking under but I've seen other uploads where they say from season whatever and I myself even remember being earlier that what the uploader said it was. I can also tell you I pretty much remember seeing this aired in the 80's as well.

I love this song too, but I find it more bitter than most of Joe Raposo's things: "You might never have the chance again, and you'll have to remember when you were afraid to feel something warm and rich and real."

Please, does anyone out there have the guitar chords for this beautiful song? This track brings such nostalgia and related emotions each time I hear it. I contacted Joe Raposo's son, Nico, about it, but I'm not sure that Joe's old lead sheets of this are around anymore. I'm not musically inclined enough to find the chords by ear! Peace to everybody out there.

@ISNorden Stuff like the Suzie Kabloozie variant doesn't bother me as long is it's a supplement rather than a replacement. Like the the Traction Jackson version of "I Have a Chair" that's replaced the original. It would be nice (and sort of interesting) if they had made that AND kept the original song but with updated footage, like the "Everybody Sleeps" of the 90s, but no----the original's gone completely. It's too bad, because it had so much more weight to it.

@micawber1849 I don't know if "bitter" is quite the right word, but yeah----there's definitely a somewhat sad edge to this song and it's because of that line.
@Marbles471
@Marbles471 13 жыл бұрын
@ISNorden It bugs me a lot that they do that. It's one thing to do what they did in the 90s, taking the same audio track and just shooting newfootage to accompany it, as they did with "Everybody Sleeps." That was sensible. But discarding the old ones completely and replacing them with indifferent graphics and new musical arrangements that lack the emotional weight of the orignials-----well, I don't get the point. Some things don't NEED updating. Like you said, if it ain't broke...
