Date of recording: October 2022
About my work - I remove beaver dams when I receive an order from a state organization.
I do not choose which dam to remove. It is decided by officials at the request of nearby residents. Each dam is assessed in advance if it can and if should be dismantled.
Removing the dam is not a threat to beavers. I do not remove their houses - lodges.
Dams are removed only in places where beavers cause damage, for example by flooding nearby fields, flooding the basements of nearby houses, or when the stream on which beavers built their dam is degraded.
Even though beavers are very invasive animals, they are under strict protection in our country.
I personally like all animals, so beavers are fine too.

Why not scoop any out, just leaving it to was further down to make another blockage elsewhere?

The fast current agitates & breaks the clumps all up into individual sticks & suspended silt, which is carried far downstream & out of the area. In some areas, any removed debris must be hauled away & dumped at another location & it's less time consuming & expensive to just let the water clean it's own channel.

Shouldn’t the dam be broken gradually so the water doesn’t rush in that huge amount all at once?

If the dam debris isn't removed from the channel entirely, & placed on the banks, the fast current is needed to break the chunks of sticks & mud apart, & carry it all downstream as far as possible. Otherwise, it just clumps up again a short distance downstream, & gives the beavers a place to start all over again.

Przydałby się kciuk hydrauliczny i generalnie większa koparka, która miałaby większy zasięg. Problem jest później z transportem takiej koparki, tym większy im większa koparka. Nie wszędzie też wjedziesz większym sprzętem.
